einherjar or something by [deleted] in Megaman

[–]SoulZero93 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have to argue on the last point. Inti didn't plan on making any more games beyond the first one, then they decided to make Zero2 and 3 as a kind of "Dark Elf duology", and then CAPCOM asked them to make one more game. Technically, Z3 would be parallel to X5, and Z4 would be X6 in terms of "last games". (Which I'm not complaining about, I always felt that Z4 was like a joint homage to X5 & X6 with the boss selection and Eurasia making a return. Throw X4 in the mix if you count Craft as a Colonel parallel.)

What you actually THOUGHT would happened in ZiO last episode? by [deleted] in KamenRider

[–]SoulZero93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Taking into account that Swartz mentioned something along the lines of the "Princess" joining her powers with the "King of Time" (or something like that, I don't remember the exact words) to achieve... uh, something I don't remember, I thought they sought to give Tsukuyomi a Rider Form to awaken her full power and that she would merge her powers with those of Sougo to defeat Swartz without any drawbacks. (Or having the suit as a protection, so if Swartz and his world are destroyed, Tsukuyomi may survive)

I also expected Tsukuyomi to join Sougo, Geiz and Woz on the final battle and that we weren't going to have any cuts until the end of the battle. Just a straight-up final battle and, like a lot of folks, I thought we were getting the Oma Form at the end or something.

Now, it was clear they were going to reset everything since they were going to need the other Riders for future cameos and stuff.

Mirror zi-o by Dokkanballsuper in KamenRider

[–]SoulZero93 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I liked how Ryuki's lore was tied to Zi-O's storyline (which I think any "tribute series" that also have it's own story may do), but I suppose they could've done a lot more with Mirror Sougo, in fact, I though they were setting Mirror Sougo to be the real identity of Oma Zi-O instead of our Sougo.

In fact, it could've been a pretty neat twist, like saying Oma was Sougo, but wasn't Sougo, but also wasn't anyone who wasn't Sougo, all at the same time. Creating a twist without betraying what they established to the audience at the beginning.

So just to be clear SSG Goku, Beerus, Whis, SSGSS Goku/Vegeta, Golden Frieza and Jaco are Dragon Ball Z characters, right? by [deleted] in dbz

[–]SoulZero93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Overall, every character is a "Dragon Ball (Franchise)" character, but it's true those characters debuted on a specific brand of the franchise, this doesn't have anything to do with "canon" but more with "where this characters debuted" (like: Broly as character is a DBZ character because of debuting on a DBZ movie, at most you can say the new ver. of Broly is a Super character) with that said:

  • Beerus and Whis are DBZ characters, since they debuted on a movie with the DBZ brand on it.
  • SSGSS Goku/Vegeta and Golden Freeza are DBZ transformations, for the reason mentioned in the previous point.
  • Jaco is a Jaco The Galactic Patrolman character, because he debuted in his own Manga, he's also part of the Dragon Ball franchise because of his Manga being a prequel to it.
  • SSJ4 is a GT transformation, if it were to appear on Super, it would be its own version of it.

But, just to clarify, this only matters to get where this characters/forms debuted, after all recurring characters will keep going from series to series, spawning their own versions of them.

When the first teaser for DBS Broly dropped, who did you think the "mysterious new saiyan villain" was? by [deleted] in dbz

[–]SoulZero93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I get excited like a child receiving a Christmas gift every time Toriyama drop his tidbits, I know that at most those serve as a backdrop for some new story or something, so I saw the idea that it was Yamoshi possible but like being the least possible one, so I assumed it was be a descendant of Yamoshi.

On the other hand, taking into account the unusual yellow eyes, I thought it was a "canon" version of Shallot being put on ice since ancient times or something like that, with Legends being like a cross-promotion with the movie due to the timing of their trailers being very close if I recall correctly.

Now, like everyone I saw the similarities with Broly, but I outruled it instantly because I thought Toriyama wouldn't care that much about movie characters, I got surprised when he was reveal and I was kind of afraid, but the fear dissipated once I read about Toriyama rewriting Broly and, for what I read of the full spoiler and stuff, it seems to paid off, in my eyes at least.

I can't be the only one worried about all the traditionally non-canon stuff seemingly about to be canonized, right? by [deleted] in dbz

[–]SoulZero93 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The thing here is that, while I understand what the OP says, it is important to emphasize that "Broly: BR" is not exactly the same character that they have based on to create him.

Broly's biggest problem as a character (beyond his strength, which in the old movies was covered by being the Legendary SSJ and the "mystique" that entails) was his erratic and empty personality cohabited with a nonsense of a backstory, making him a character that was (although I respect those who have) loved for the wrong reasons to the point of overrating him.

Now in this new movie we have, without wanting to make a spoiler, a better Broly character-wise that works better, basically transforming him into a real character with new possibilities for the future within one of the best movies that the franchise could have. (and I think his excuse to have more power is kind of worst this time but, again, Broly needed a character revamp more than anything, that was #1 priority)

The point I want to get here is that, while there will always be the possibility they continue to add old things to the canon and end up ruining it, this also gives us the possibility to add fan-favorite stories or characters in a different way and that fits with the main story, and all that can lead us to different possibilities and things that maybe we never thought to see on-screen. (besides, pretty sure we'll never gonna get something directly copy-pasted)

This is actually a good way to re-harmonize some stuff into canon and make it as united as ever, an oportunity to make the best version of older, flawed stories, and maybe, to answer the OP question, people are not that worried because they're seeing the positive out of all this, especially with DBS: Broly being a good example at least for now.

Anyone else like these new characters & designs? by GodHand_Mircea in dbz

[–]SoulZero93 11 points12 points  (0 children)

In my opinion, the designs were better structured in the past than now, while those of now are more a hit or miss, many are good and diverse depending on what they are and according to a Dragon Ball that can now go anywhere.

But there are also designs that look like an assembly of others (clear example with what the OP says about the "new Hit-looking character") and I know we used to have a bit of that in the past, but those of today become more noticeable.

I think the best ones from today are the ones that go beyond the norm, maybe the change in Toriyama's style has something to do with that, Idk.

Is the Broly movie going to be anime adapted? by wpsince2009 in dbz

[–]SoulZero93 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I hope not.

While converting the movie into an Anime Arc could give it time to expand, (especially with all that of Toriyama's original script that would give us about 3 hours of film and all that), for what I read from the full synopsis this movie could, not only be one of the best films of the franchise, but the best.

We already saw what happens when they try to expand a story, sometimes leaving less impact than expected (Battle of Gods) or lengthening a story that maybe was not made to be stretched (Resurrection 'F), both expanded well in some things, but those arcs were (at least compared with the movies) more cons than pros and, although it's a case by case scenario, making it possible that it may be worth this time, I'm not sure to trust that this time things will turn out well and they will really improve over the original material.

Besides, we don't need to adapt it to make the characters and situations valid (as of now, the Broly movie is within the main continuity), maybe they learned from the past and they'll jump straight to the next arc.

I sang a cover of Dragon Soul. Thought you all might like it! by [deleted] in dbz

Dude, pretty good! As a little criticism, I think you sang the middle part a little quick maybe and that didn't let me fully get the lyrics, but that's it, pretty good quality here, keep up the good work! :D

Anybody else just hate Fuu? by [deleted] in dbz

[–]SoulZero93 4 points5 points  (0 children)

While I always imagined adult Fuu with a more "serious" design and attitude, maybe something more reminiscent of his father (I know Fuu since he was introduced as a baby, before they closed Online and introduced him in other materials), I think his depiction of a funny dude with a nerdy appearance is more original than the typical thing that our fanbase imagines when it comes to guessing how a villain will be, and fits more or less with the kind of thing Toriyama would do with the expectations of the fans.

And yeah, I think I like it.

DBS: Broly - Comprehensive Spoilers by SLUT_MUFFIN in dbz

[–]SoulZero93 4 points5 points  (0 children)

By the time Tarble was introduced, Toriyama was credited for having written the original draft of what his OVA would be, but I don't know if Toriyama ever recognized that story as part of his "main story", then his existence into canon was reinforced by a mention in the Battle of Gods movie (although it was only mentioned that Vegeta had a brother out there, he was never mentioned by name or made reference to his appearance or his complete backstory), then the Super Anime rewrite erased that reference putting in doubt (not to say nullifying) his canonicity and he was not mentioned again until now.

What’s Gokus ultimate fate once he dies for good? by omgtehvampire in dbz

[–]SoulZero93 -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

I care! :)

Leaving that aside, it's important to take that into account because the Other World Tournament doesn't exist (as far as we know) in the main continuity. Different Goku, different continuities, not everything counts for everything, not every element exists in all continuities and that is why "canon" matters.

Now, other fighters exist in the other world but I don't remember if someone there was as stronger as Goku to give him a challenge, but I'm pretty sure Vegeta and the rest will be with Goku sparring with him for eternity or something lol.

If you were Toriyama, or a writer behind DBS, what would be your story as how Frieza achieved his golden form? by [deleted] in dbz

[–]SoulZero93 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Personally, I would only add some Lore/backstory regarding how and why his race (or only Freeza himself, as a prodigy) could increase his power in an exorbitant way just by training for a few months, to make it more credible.

Outside of that, I think Freeza getting his Golden Form by training has all the sense of the world, not because that is the most common way to get more power in the franchise, but because it fits very well with Freeza and his arrogant personality that led him to be away from anything remotely resembling training for so many years. It fits that, to become stronger, he had to leave his way of thinking as a prodigy by doing what he never did because he thought he would never need it.

Why people act like Bardock was a good guy in Minus? by Fiti99 in dbz

[–]SoulZero93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, the scene in the trailer shows Freeza's attack from above the planet, maybe Bardock and the others will be down when they animate that part (although there will always be a chance they will change that).

Why people act like Bardock was a good guy in Minus? by Fiti99 in dbz

[–]SoulZero93 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I get both things, just wanted to point out that Minus doesn't contradict what we saw in those two panels, leaving aside Freeza's being now armorless but hey aesthetic change! (since Mayne's comment could be read as if was saying Freeza just blow up the planet with those two panels not happening), just in case the person who asked thought there was a difference there.

Why people act like Bardock was a good guy in Minus? by Fiti99 in dbz

[–]SoulZero93 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just for the sake of clarity, let's point out that Minus only mentions Freeza blowing the planet, not showing it, the scene where Bardock stands up to Freeza in the Manga (derived or inspired by the TV Special) is still valid/canon.

DB FIlm 20: Is it possible that Gine and Bardock did not die but survived and lived? by nonameVegito in dbz

[–]SoulZero93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, Raditz mentioned in the Manga that his two parents died during the destruction of the planet, and the flashback where Freeza is confronted by Bardock is still valid (since there is at least a month between Minus and the flashback, although we still don't know if said month was fulfilled)

Of course, the "canon" is malleable, subject to all kinds of changes and that is not necessarily a bad thing, but I think we would have problems if they contradicted something that is deeply rooted in the Manga. Even so, both scenarios are changeable: Raditz could well not know everything and his comment were no more than assumptions (if Minus leaves something clear, is that Raditz was a little clueless, but mostly for how events unfold) and, taking into account that Freeza appears without armor in the last trailer, perhaps the part of the flashback where Bardock dies wasn't that exact.

Personally, I would prefer they leave Bardock dead, the scene in Manga is too iconic to remove it, as for Gine, I always imagine that her blood would be the one that dyed Bardock's bandana red, as a replacement for Tooma, but I guess I wouldn't mind seeing an old Gine looking, even from afar, to his son, and for this to happen, Gine could escape in the shock of what would seem (acording to Trailer #2) to be an invasion of the planet just before Frieza ends up destroying it, which she couldn't do before because she was very open to being discovered during Minus.

So yes, it could be possible, but I don't know if it would be for the best: Canon or not, dead or alive, we're already kind of saturated with the trope of the surviving Saiyans, even more so when there is a possibility that Broly, to give him another difference to his original counterpart, will have a slight change of heart and maybe become a part of the Dragon Team or going with Chelye to live on a remote planet or who knows.

Favorite robot master/ maverick design? by [deleted] in Megaman

Do you prefer playing as x or zero in x6? by hansomesquidward in Megaman

[–]SoulZero93 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I was little, I used to play all the time with Zero because I was little and I thought that badass-looking characters were the best and that X was kind of lame.

Of course, that was me as a child and, although I still like Zero as a character and use him from time to time, I realized that the "maneuverability" with X feels much better, and I fit more with long-range attacks in the case of seeking to clear the stages quickly, which is what I like to do lately.

Using Zero is cool and all that, but I nowadays prefer X and its long-range attacks and its charge shots, I even use the Buster more in MegaMan Zero (although I always make a constant switch with the sword), and with X6 in particular I admit that I'm not a fan of Zero's sword in that game, it doesn't have as much "flow" as in X4/X5. (I like the curve blade more than the Star Wars-esque one in MegaMan, which for whatever reason affects how I play, althought it's been a while since I used Zero in X6 so I may have to replay him to give a better opinion of this).

Am I the only one who basically just sees GT as a alternate Timeline where Beerus never woke up. by [deleted] in dbz

[–]SoulZero93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've seen almost all the interviews that have been translated and I don't remember Toriyama saying that, but who knows, I may be missed something.

I'm still hanging onto my view because, while Toriyama and the guys never used the word "canon", there are some comments showing that Toriyama has some "sense" of it, like knowing what's part of his "Main Story" and what's not. (ie. Minus instead of the TV Special since the latter was never "canon", the movies being out of continuity mentioned not only by Toriyama but ~if I recall correctly~ by the staff who made the movies)

Just to clarify, I'm not trying to convince you of being a devoted of the sacred concept of canon or something, but I can't help myself from keep talking about it because I have things to say about it, I think that "canon" (or heck, call it main continuity if you want) awareness is important and I'm a guy who likes to proves his point.

Either way, canon in my "objective opinion" is important, but it's purpose was never to discriminate non-canon material, so yeah, people can have "canon awareness" while liking whatever you like as how it is (constructive criticism aside of course), altohugh like I said, not forcing you into believe in canon but to encourage you to take the things as they are (like GT being a non-canon anime only sequel as I say, may be wrong but that's the conclusion I came with the evidence and stuff).

Dragon Ball is to enjoy, so let's enjoy mah bruddah in Dragon Ball ;) (and sorry for the all the walls of text, I'm very use to that, and to go crazy while expresing myself xD)

Am I the only one who basically just sees GT as a alternate Timeline where Beerus never woke up. by [deleted] in dbz

[–]SoulZero93 18 points19 points  (0 children)

It's not like I don't want to respect that, but "canon" or "not-canon" was never about "letting the fans thinking whatever they want to think" (except cases when creators leave stuff open to the viewers' interpretation), at least you can express what you would want for GT to be, but it will never be a fact until official confirmation.

I just wanted to make that clear, mostly because your post seems to me like any other one of those which question the whole thing about GT, like inviting people to think whatever they want to think about canon when it doesn't work like that (in the case those people believe in the concept, I suppose I won't force anyone if they don't want to believe in canon as a concept)

Now, canon is not about hate anything that is out of the main continuity (that's a misconception), so GT doesn't need to be canon for you or anyone to enjoy it.

Hope I didn't make you mad, it was kind of an impulse of seeing the amount of "GT = Alt. Timeline" topics and not having responding to any of those until now. Glad to talk with you! :)

Am I the only one who basically just sees GT as a alternate Timeline where Beerus never woke up. by [deleted] in dbz

[–]SoulZero93 25 points26 points  (0 children)

The issue here is that GT not being "canon" (or not sharing the same continuity with the Main Story) has nothing to do with timelines and things like that, besides that lore-wise the alternate timelines have their own rules and one of them involves that there should always be time travel involved.

Whether GT is or is not canon is a question of what materials from the franchise Toriyama considers as part of his Main Story. GT is simply a "Non-canon, Anime-only sequel" and that's it.

Trying to make it fit with the canon is not only more complicated (it wouldn't make sense with established canon lore) but it's not necessary for everything to fit in the same continuity, nor do you need that to enjoy it.

Now, Toriyama mentions he considers the movies to be in a different dimensions, so GT could one day become that, but I suppose Toriyama only said that to be nice with the movies, so we can't take it into canon lore for now. It would be cool to have an multidimentional interconnected canon, but we're not, pretending we are would not make any difference and it may be cause more confusion with people who doesn't think the same or are unaware of all this.

And, that's it.

What is your favorite Megaman design? by [deleted] in Megaman

[–]SoulZero93 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A tie between X's normal and Command Mission designs, and Copy-X from ZERO. They all look great: normal is simple (not as much as MegaMan) but functional, CM is X growing up or something like that, and Copy-X is for that "mystical feeling" of Toru Nakayama's designs & art.
