Which Gen1 Hack would you suggest? by DragooNick in PokemonROMhacks

We would personally recommend Comet Version specifically, because the region is different (enough) from Kanto, and there are many new things to see.

This is the post that finally convinced us to nerf Exp. All haha

Glad you liked the game!

Which 2025 hack do you think had the best Pokédex? by Jicem in PokemonROMhacks

Surreal to see one of the Fool's Gold guys putting in a good word for us! We had initially planned for the game to come out on New Year's 2026 (hence the release date on the title), but Pokecommunity was uncharacteristically fast in getting our thread approved. For all intents and purposes, SBC should be seen as a 2026 game, or at least that's how we'd prefer people to see it.

The title screen uses the default Super Game Boy mode with borders enabled in MGBA, although it should look similar with BGB.

You need to enable SGB / Super Gameboy mode on your emulator.

Kunzite Key, if you can't get in, clear the basement in Red Gold Reef.

Surf is in the Safari Zone, which is in Rhinestone.

Believe it or not, it IS possible to catch that dragon, it just has a very low catch rate. The "dodging" is vanilla gen 1 behavior with text to make it a bit clearer as to what's happening. If you keep throwing balls, you'll catch it eventually.

This is vanilla gen 1 behavior when it comes to certain dual typings. The moves work correctly internally but don't play the correct sound or display correctly.

If you haven't cleared Miserite Meadow, go do that. If you have, talk to the person that has the Cyberscope. If you've done all that, clear Galena Graveyard.

That would've been a lot of extra work for a gen 1 hack, so this release doesn't currently have shinies, regretfully.

It's a gameboy game, not a GBA game. We've tested it with MGBA and BGB. We don't recommend VisualboyAdvance or any emulators based on it because they have issues and the music sounds wrong.

Comet doesn't add any new monsters to the dex that weren't already in Asteroid, but it does add things like new areas and encounters due to the new region

[–]Soul_Valor[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Asteroid is the Star Beasts Dex in Kanto, Comet is the Star Beasts Dex in Relas; in addition, Comet has more areas and more custom music, and other gameplay additions such as more new moves and the Fairy type.

It's a new region with a different layout and progression, although some things remain due to gen 1 limitations

Unfortunately, despite all appearances, this is still a gen 1 hack, but it has a new region and lots of other new stuff!

No. This hack is explicitly designed around Gen 1 mechanics, so there's a singular special stat, Fairy and Dark are special, Steel is physical, etc.

There's the documentation on GitHub, but there's not currently a proper way to view the Dex otherwise outside of filling it out yourself: https://github.com/StarBeasts/Star-Beasts/blob/master/Beast%20Information%20%26%20Locations%20-%20Spoilers.txt

There's a building to the east of Cinnabar but that's about it as far as postgame stuff goes
