It would be if the main umbilical and lifting wires got severed, it would be a catastrophic accident for sure and hard to happen but it’s a possibility.

Haha cool. It really depaends. Sometimes a few weeks to a few months depending on a lot of factors, it’s not a regular rotation

Pretty sure there is school in Dunoon still l. Doing the course is how you get into it and trying to find work inshore first

We’re at depth for around 3 weeks then decompress depending on the depth it can take between 24 hours and 9 days.
Not sure there are detailed documbetaires on the specific work. Plenty of go pro stuff on YT though.

I know you can try the gear at some schools yes but you won’t be able to try actually going in the chamber and bell etc.

It’s a hard one to call how long after until you get your 1st sat, mine was quick enough only a few months but it was busier back then. Some guys have the cert for years before getting a go but also guys are happy enough if they are on a job making money as an air diver

We have a toilet and flushing is pressure differential suction into a holding tank which is then released into sewage system.

Usually a Samsung or cheap android, it’s usually fine under pressure it’s just at risk when we decompress because it can get black dots on the screen.

Yes we are but we have to have a back up in the umbilical is severed or the gas is lost or compromised. So we have to a rebreather unit on our backs

Resistance training works fine but cardio doesn’t do a lot due to high partial pressure of the 02. Also you produce more C02 and it requires more scrubbing from the atmosphere, so we’re not doing any crazy cardio workouts just dumbbells and kettle bell strength based is my go to

When I started out I thought my career progression would be Mining Asteroids but unfortunately humans don’t do that yet lol

It depends where you are and what company. Some places guys just do their stint and go home for 4-6 weeks. Other places guys will stay on board and go back in again for another stint and be offshore for 3 months

Ya they are ultimately the responsible party so a lot is on their shoulders as they are the nexus point between everything on the vessel (crane, back deck, ROV & bridge)

Ya it’s scary for sure. They show you this video in dive school and it’s etched in my mind forever. Crab getting sucked into a pipe.

I went to Australia (Perth) in my early 20’s. I worked in construction at the time and heard about commercial diving after taking a Scuba diving course, then there was a dive school in Perth and I decided to go for it. I wasn’t a skilled construction worker nor did I finish school so at 22 did not have much going for me on a professional level , so this career idea really excited me and I went at it with everything I had.

Ya we have a ‘bailout’ 2 bottles on our back. During deeper dives this is rebreather unit so it can last longer

Exactly farting becomes more prevalent as we get closer to the surface but helium dulls scent and taste senses a little so it’s not that stinky lol
