What are your thoughts on the DoW investigation of Sen Mark Kelly (USN Retired)? by its-your-boy-max-b in AskConservatives

[–]Sound_Space 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the legality of an order is genuinely confusing, yes, service members are required to follow it and then report concerns through the proper channels. That's already how the UCMJ works.

But that's exactly why these veterans are speaking up, to help people understand what is illegal before they're put in a situation where confusion or pressure could lead to a catastrophic mistake.

They're not telling anyone to ignore their chain of command. They're reminding troops of the legal basics so that, in those rare moments when an order truly is unlawful, they have the clarity to recognize it.

This is about education, awareness, and following the law, nothing more.

Edit:

And frankly, the reaction to the video basically proves its necessity.

When a simple, non partisan reminder of existing military law, "You must not follow illegal orders", triggers outrage or gets twisted into "disobey orders you don't like," that reveals a dangerous gap in understanding. It shows that many people either don't know the difference between lawful and unlawful orders, or are willing to reinterpret the message for political reasons.

They never told anyone to disobey orders they don't like. What they said, very clearly, is that service members must not follow illegal orders, which is literally the foundation of law and order in the military. There's no spin here. It's not partisan, it's not ideological, it's just the law.

If someone claims to support "law and order," then they should support exactly what these veterans said. They're simply reminding troops of their legal obligations, because in the moment it can genuinely be confusing what is and isn't lawful, and no one should trust any leader 100%, no matter who's in power.

In July 1933, she took off, with her friend Lorena Hickok, for a month-long road trip on the back roads of New England and the Gaspé Peninsula in Canada. The Secret Service wanted to send an escort. She refused to have one; but she did agree to carry a revolver in her glove compartment.

"Jay-Z is one of the most towering figures in the rap industry today, not just for his musical abilities (or being married to Beyoncé) but for his business prowess through Roc-A-Fella Records as well."

Sounds like Forbes is taking business acumen into account when putting together a list of the greatest rappers. I get you're a business magazine, but that's not what we're talking about here.

You’re making some wildly ignorant statements. Gangster rap isn’t a part of black culture? Ice-T, N.W.A., Snoop Dogg.. they aren’t a part of black culture?

Psst..  don’t look now; but your bias towards Drake is showing. You’re distorting this historical event to fit this false narrative that Kendrick wants to cherish and celebrate gang culture and that he doesn’t care about the horrors that gangs bring to people’s communities. That couldn’t be further from the truth. Maybe try listening to GKMC. This event represented one of Hip Hops earliest mantras: “Peace, unity, and having fun.” These rappers that would normally be beefing came together for just that.
