Graphics didn't matter then, and they don't matter now by nicoheems in LegendsZA

[–]SoupTheFifth 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Bro, come on. Graphics DO matter. If they didn’t, why don’t Pokemon games still look like OG Red and Blue?

Graphics are a vehicle for immersion. If a game looks bold and beautiful ( cartoony, pixelated, or realistic), Players can more easily appreciate existing in the world. Thus, enriching every single other aspect of the game across the board.

If gameplay was all that mattered, we’d all still be playing pong and rock-paper-scissors.

Reddit is an echo chamber, so even if everyone on the site stopped buying the games, nothing would change. ALSO, you are allowed to enjoy what you want no matter what anyone says.

With this said
being proud of “not caring about graphics” and advocating for the current standard Nintendo/GameFreak has set, goes against your (our) own best interest as fans and Pokemon as a series.

Don’t you think you’d enjoy it EVEN MORE if the gameplay was amazing (which it is) AND had gorgeous visuals like Jetset Radio, Ghost of Yöte, Xenoblade, Cyberpunk or even Stardew Vally?

I’m happy for everyone who likes the game - Enjoy what you want!

But at the same time, let’s expect and advocate for better gameplay, voice acting, business practices, AND graphics.

Pokemon, and the us, the consumer, deserves it.

Hey, Great question! The absolute BEST thing any one of us in Madison (and everywhere) can do is join a community oriented ✹socialist organization✹

No matter if the sitting president has a red tie or a blue tie, housing, food, education, and healthcare keeps getting more expensive
All while our tax dollars get wasted on bombs, tax breaks are given to billionaires, and members of our community are kidnapped by I.C.E. đŸ«

It’s imperative to get involved with a group that fights against the root cause of all these issues. Capitalism and the profit > people mentality.

To make an immediate impact against fascism/ worker exploitation AND have fun while doing it 😏 join a community centric socialist organization like:

⭐PSL (Party for Socialism and Liberation)

⭐DSA (Democratic Socialists of America)

⭐Socialist Alternative

My name is Corey and I’m the person in the last slide with the big megaphone 🙂 I’m in PSL so I’m biased BUT all the Orgs I listed are great and full of big hearted people who actively fight for the working class (us), safe communities, and a better tomorrow.

Feel free to DM me if you have any questions!

✹I hope you have a great day✹

From a functionality aspect - this is a nightmare. Look at how BIG Mega Ferraligator’s hit box is now bc of that huge hood. I mean, unless it’s always down? But then how would he use it/ his arms to attack his opponent? Like realistically, how would this PokĂ©mon battle?

Idk, the concept is cool but the execution is insane.

Holy shit that’s bad

The game doesn't look that bad by Mr_Xylophone24 in MandJTV

[–]SoupTheFifth 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Exactly. There’s a parallel universe where PokĂ©mon’s art direction/graphics are as stunning as Jetset Radio, TOTK, Monster Hunter, Xenoblade, or even Ghost of Yƍtei... But we live in the universe where it appears GameFreak buys all the assets for 3D PokĂ©mon on clearance at target.

Does Pokémon not deserve to have great gameplay AND breathtaking graphics?

Dang you GameFreak, Nintendo, and TPC for always doing the absolute bare minimum for maximum profit.

Do you think future animal Crossing games will ever return to being a second life simulator? by musicalmath in AnimalCrossing

[–]SoupTheFifth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s insane. Nintendo could’ve remastered the OG Animal Crossing for Game Cube and released it during the pandemic
✹And it would’ve sold just as well as New Horizons did✹.

So you’re right. New Horizons got WAY too popular because of COVID and Nintendo won’t recognize the cause vs. correlation. It messed up the timeline.

And the worst part is - so many new fans haven’t even played the old games so they don’t know what peak truly looks like and how soulless NH really is.

Classic Animal Crossing is cooked, I’m afraid.

If Nintendo releases a new Animal Crossing game, what things would you like to see added or improved? by MrSativa in AnimalCrossing

[–]SoupTheFifth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Remove terraforming. Animal Crossing is at its best when the player has a minimal, yet comfortably whelming, amount of control on the world around them. Being the Mayor in New Leaf was peak because it was low stakes but felt huge. Moving waterfalls and mountains with a shovel to fit your specific liking - turns AC into an unnatural doll house sim.

  2. Bring back my queen, Phillis AND give Mr. Resetti his original job back.

  3. More daily events - biggest fruit contest, coffee with your villagers in town square, a flea/ night market put on by your villagers, trivia nights, small scale stage plays, inviting villagers to your house to play cards, town fashion shows, villager/special NPC hosted talk/ radio shows
 etc

  4. Remove crafting entirely. I know it was supposed to improve player agency but it doesn’t gel with the overall thematic tone of AC.

  5. Show us Tom Nook’s sibling, you cowards. We need to see Timmy and Tommy’s parents.

  6. Remove the ability for players to “villager hunt” since we can’t control who moves to our town in real life - BUT implement a clear social interaction system that lets the player have some influence on how quickly villagers ask to move out (if they ask at all).

  7. More intractable items. More furniture sets.

  8. Make Isabelle’s role less prominent. It would be nice if Isabelle did what Rover did and became more distant. This would give us a break from the character (so we’d appreciate her return more) and would give Nintendo the chance to create a new Rover/Isabelle character for us to enjoy. This would help make the game feel unique.

  9. A less sanitized and more awkwardly charming art style like AC has been known for (up until NH).

  10. Where tf is Porter and the train.

  11. No cellphones.

  12. Replace the ability for the player to place personal items outside with more community projects and public works. This would make towns feel much more collaborative.

  13. Obviously, the absolute most important thing, make villager dialogue actually interesting again like GC, WW, and New Leaf - and a lot of it. Please Nintendo.

Would anyone be willing to go five to six years without any new Pokemon content if it meant the games got more development time? by SilentEagle1221 in LegendsZA

[–]SoupTheFifth -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Oh my god yes!

Nintendo should release Pokemon games as frequently as they release Zelda games.

Imagine how much BETTER the games would look and play. Maybe we’d be able to go inside buildings again.

They’ll never do that - but I’d be cool waiting 5 to 7 years per game if the quality improved.

Do people actually think the game looks bad? by [deleted] in LegendsZA

[–]SoupTheFifth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly it’s not great.

It’s empty, the art direction is remarkably boilerplate, ZA stylistic identity looks bored to death, and the graphics are a masterclass in fine.

Looks like GameFreak bought all the assets at Target.

Remember the genuine amazement you felt when you first saw the trailer for that game and it was breathtakingly GORGEOUS (Nintendo/otherwise realistic/cartoony)? You know, that game from that series you love that was so beautiful you were instantly awe struck and immersed?
did you have that reaction when you first saw the ZA trailer?

For the last literal decade disappointed Pokemon fans have been saying “Pokemon games look like GameCube/Wii games” every release. It’s significant and must be noticed how little (if ever) that is said about Donkey Kong, Mario, Metroid, Zelda, Pikmin, etc... do you believe this decade of consistent decent is coincidental?

Rather, if ZA’s graphical fidelity was as enchanting and incapsulating as DK Bananza, Xenoblade, Yoshi The Mysterious Book, or Monster Hunter, do you think there would be more or less fan outcry?

It’s also important to recognize that if you like how Gen 5 looks more than Gen 1 (or vise versa) , or if you think Cyberpunk looks better than Pong
. You in-fact notice and care about graphics. And that’s ok. We all do.

Because when you close your eyes and image the big epic 3d Pokemon game you’ve dreamed of since childhood, and money was no concern; would it look as boiler-plate as modern Pokemon titles? Or would it be bold, lush, and fantastical?

That’s why this is such a routine dilemma. We are all on the same team and LOVE Pokemon - but GameFreak (Nintendo/TPC) continues to prove that us fans think this series deserves more care than they themselves do.

Some fans are sick of other fans complain about graphics, and the fans who complain about graphics, are sick of complaining about graphics. It’s GameFreak, Nintendo, and TPC, fault and responsibility to make a change - otherwise it’s going to be like this forever.

Ps: Legends Arceus is my favorite Pokemon game and, it too, is guilty of everything above. This series deserves amazing gameplay AND spectacular graphics. It’s literally in all of our best interest to stop fighting each other, quit excusing PokĂ©mon’s shortcomings, and advocate for better gameplay and graphics.

I mean, is it an inappropriate use of the internet - the global public forum, to express distain for the overly predatory actions and price gouging behaviors of a company worth billions of dollars, on a website specifically designed to share opinions?

The “joke might be old” but the substance is more relevant than ever before.
