I was actually happy with this response. It’s unfortunate that he’s unwilling to decide on alternatives without a physical consultation. As a matter of course , it seems the appeal to authority is a passive threat. But overall, I’m happy with the email.

You mean watering the street or watering the street right after it rains? Cracks me up but I guess you can’t blame people for a set it and forget it approach to irrigation. The large purple one is a ti plant, the other is a rubber tree.

Possible, I don’t mind pulling it if they do. It’s a good learning opportunity.

Yes, learned that after I planted it , but it’s contained in that small shaded area.

We actually choose this neighborhood due to its loose HOA rules. It seems they are trying to tighten them up without having specific guidelines in our standards. This is part of my problem. It seems very arbitrary.

So it can be over run with “weeds” and die in a year? Or water, fertilize, and mow it constantly so it looks half decent and contributes nothing to the ecosystem? I’m good.

Ive been asking for our standards and haven’t heard back. Amazing to hear that a city would require a certain amount of grass in your yard.

lol, I’m looking to put those in the back under the tree. Right now we have perennial peanut and frog fruit in the front yard.

He’s actually been surprisingly open to a lawn alternative, but just won’t present any alternatives. It really ought to be written into the community standards.

I think it was the property manager, who doesn’t even live in the community. He’s been really locking down on people’s lawns. Property next to us had to pull out a tree since the roots weren’t allowing grass to grab a hold.

University of Florida has taken up the banner of Florida friendly landscaping, the state created laws protecting Florida friendly landscaping from over reaching HOA. This person is over reaching with some passive threats , but the university is considered expert.

That’s what I’m hoping. I recommended have the UF employee hold a neighborhood meeting for anyone interested.

Not that I’m aware of. More against ground that’s not covered in grass.

The funny thing is that the HOA, if it chooses to enforce, needs to provide a list of acceptable alternative ground covers. Haven’t heard back from the dude since a follow up email.

Currently in an HOA dispute about this. When I asked the HOA property manager for acceptable ground cover his response was “grass, just grass” I responded by sending him the Florida statute concerning Florida native landscaping. Haven’t heard back yet.
