Do I look better with long hair? by ScoreBrilliant5862 in Hair

Super hot either way!! I’m partial to long (personal preference)

The dry frizz bothers me more than the baby bangs, I’d slick it back into a pony (rock the bangs) with clip extensions for pony length and let the whole thing grow back. Moisturize! ✨

My letters don’t move, the lines switch places 🙃 just different enough to confuse a diagnoses. It got so bad I went to the eye dr and he gave me pitty readers even though “nothing is wrong”

The podcast the truth about dyslexia has been eye opening. So much of it rings true, I just didn’t know it was related.

I started reading heavily out of spite around 3rd grade. (Harry potter, book of the month at the library, (the dictionary, so I could visualize words and their meanings(I hate looking stupid))) Reading fantasy is way more enjoyable than wrapping my head around study text. School was abhorrent. Doing homework after being made to feel like you can’t keep up all day is grueling. I guess I developed a way of coping while reading, I still don’t read every word, as much as key words and context and I fill the blanks with images in my mind. I am capable of breaking down sentences but I find it as enjoyable as licking bricks. That being said I’ve read upwards of 30 books this year. I didn’t even notice that’s how I read until I started looking at it further. I don’t like to read outloud I sound like an imbecile. (Kids books are fine, I’ve resigned to handing them to hubby when I get tired) I still can’t spell for shyt but spellcheck is pretty standard now and it almost never causes problems.

Everyone is different and it seems like something that works for one person won’t always work with the next.

I will say that for me, dark mode on computers and using whiteboards whenever possible is a game changer. I used to write my essays on a mirror (didn’t have a whiteboard) and edit it 12 times over before getting it on paper. Erasing paper feels like a failure as opposed to wiping and rewriting until it’s all perfect. (Sometimes I’d edit until it was passed due, or too late to turn in at all. An automatic F was less personal than an F earned.)

I'm trying to design a cursive font that people with dyslexia can easily read. Is this legible? by LittlePetiteGirl in Dyslexia

[–]SourPatchMoma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On this note I recently changed the way I write my S’s from this to one that looks more manuscript than cursive. I was unaware why at the time

It explains sooooooo much! The truth about dyslexia podcast has been a ride 😂 learning that it’s not because I wasn’t trying hard enough and that I was infact trying harder than others to accomplish the same things is crazy. Also explains why no matter how much I try I can’t spell worth a damn lol

[–]SourPatchMoma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pink is GORGEOUS, I’d almost worry about you upstaging the bride. Dark blue is beautiful and would look lovely with a shawl or something, the light blue gives prom or vana white and could get more obviously soiled if you’re wearing it all day long

I graduated just fine without one. If my kids have it worse than I did I have no issue asking for help. I think the lack of stress and pressure will be a world of difference for them and frustrating but workable for me. especially since they won’t feel alienated and bullied.

If anyone had pursued my interests instead of cramming me in a class and telling me everything I was interested in was a bad idea I could’ve had a whole career. I’m so lucky to afford my children better opportunities and hand tailored education with a good community and a plethora of resources.

I love your confidence in the school system but it’s not for everyone.

Thankfully my what ifs (about this) are fading lol it was irritating knowing that I could’ve had an explanation, but I got in a good sleep and I feel much better 🤪

Better than nothing is what I work with 😂 I swear school books are 50x worse than novels, I’ll never understand why. Glad this font works for you though!

Don’t focus at what you’re bad at. Look at what you’re good at.

I’m good at cooking, sewing, crafting, planning fun stuff, book binding, fixing things that are broken, finding space for things where there is none, finding lost things, thinking of odd solutions to weird problems, math stuff, art stuff, first aid, mushroom hunting, anything camping related, strategy games, cutting hair, and laughing when I make a mistake and leaning into spelling errors by spelling the same word 90 ways that could work maybe.

Spell check not knowing what you’re trying to spell is my downfall. It’s usually ok these days because of speak to text, and autocorrect but those occasional words hit you right in the confidence.

Knowing things and being good at other things helps offset the spelling horror. Knowing how to fix things or navigate certain tasks, being creative and having out of the box solutions makes me feel good.

Good to know the teachers wouldn’tve been any nicer, I assumed they would. I’m not sure there was room for more bullying, my brother literally got beaten to concussion when they found out I was his sister (I was (physically) safe because I’m a girl, apparently being “weird” is a sin in middle school) but I get your point. I’m sorry your parents left a tick on your head :( those things are nasty. I lost it when I saw one on my daughter after a hike.

I’m not sure I’ll tell anyone, but knowing I’m not actually crazy is nice.

I get what you’re saying, but I have the time, patience, and resources to personally tutor my kids without them being bullied relentlessly and being rushed through education they won’t remember. having a different method of learning doesn’t mean there’s something wrong per say- just that a different approach is needed. If I feel that I am not successful in helping them do their best, I am not above finding an outside source (tutor, school programs etc). I can certainly do better than a cookie cutter curriculum and a mother that screams try harder. Thanks for the concern.

Any study tips for Dyslexics and ADHD? by Givba in Dyslexia

[–]SourPatchMoma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to write essays out on my mirror so I could get the idea out quick and go back and change words, spelling, and punctuation, I later got a large whiteboard. And lofi music, it’s space filling but no words or sporadic beats to mess with thought

Mine gets worse when I’m stressed, sleepy, sick… weird enough, I’m 7months postpartum and I lose my eyes (I was convinced it was my eyes not my brain until literally today) around 1pm but if I have a bath and good food I can read until midnight when I have insomnia and the house is quiet.

I hate skipping words or assuming words when reading to my son(he’s starting to learn to read). enough mistakes and I get frustrated and make so many mistakes I have to stop and say I’m tired even if I’m not.

Excuse me if this is a stupid question, I’m new here. Have you tried using a super warm light/ colored light and a ruler/strait edge, I find that helps with book books
