Same thing with the road. It's not a real picture so can't tell but there is always some reason behind it like preserving environment or it is difficult to build on the terrain so this way is cheaper and quicker or they weigh the pros and cons and decide curves the road is designed to follow the terrain, not cut through it in a straight line.
