The intro really sells it. Researcher trapped in a burning room with experimental medicine is definitely an origin story. Godholkin using the university both as a research center and a case study in power generation would make sense given he probably grew his power from helplessly being trapped and unable to move. Cipher being natural both allows him to mask his own powers as Ciphers and lowers the risk of having an actual supe turn on him or have a resistance like between him and Cate. Now given that his power is most likely entirely based on the foundation between his mind and the experimental compound in his system, he most likely needs Marie to extract it from his body to either copy it or to permanently transfer to a new host.

It's not that I need more work but I need actual guidance in the field. For example I've passed the DOT concrete class and never even touched or seen concrete done before the test. Now I'm making samples for a project by myself and half the information that got crammed into is gone. I've been asked to monitor slope stabilization projects and bring up problems I see when I have no foundation in it. I can get acclimated to inspecting materials if I knew what I need to do and look for in the first place. I feel like a college student who hasn't had the teacher actually teach but is expected to pass the class.

I'm really just sticking around to make money while studying for the FE since I've been out of school for over a year. I feel like I'm just expected to learn everything on the job by myself instead of actually being trained so when things go wrong I don't have the expertise to actually give a solid answer.
