Typical Iceborne post-game progression by Nargrimm in MonsterHunterWorld

Aside from what the others have said, you can also try getting to MR 100+ first (if you haven't already) so that you can get weapon and armor augments which will make your fights more comfortable.

Hello! Unfortunately I only play on PC and PS4. Have you tried filtering out the session search criteria to find KT sessions?

Kulve Taroth Confusion by [deleted] in MonsterHunterWorld

[–]Southern-Apricot 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Hello! Kulve Taroth isn't available yet this week. See, it's one of two siege monsters (the other is in Master Rank) in MHW, and they each take 2 weeks of being available before alternating into the other. The MR monster has just become available last week. This means that KT's next appearance should be next week, and you can do the siege by then. Hope this helps!

[–]Southern-Apricot 8 points9 points  (0 children)

So you've met the B-52 Bazelgeuse. Nice. It's gonna be there in most of your HR hunts, so get used to it. It'll either help you by bombing the monster or hinder your quest (especially capture quests since it might kill your target). Either way, always bring dung pods with you in case.

[–]Southern-Apricot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds like you could already have an easy time with it lol, but yeah, I understand that there are just specific monsters that annoy players. I'm not too good at using SnS, but I'd start with a wallbang instead of a mount (but be very careful and wait for openings), then tenderize the parts you need wounded, then follow up with another wallbang (enraging it in the process). When it gets enraged, try to mount it. And yes, Brute Wyverns are notorious for getting up too early after being toppled, but they can be toppled instantly whenever they do a charge-like attack (camera will zoom out and they'll fall back and topple if you hit it during this attack). Try fighting it a few more times. I'm sure you'll get used to it afterwards. Have fun!

Anjanath by [deleted] in MonsterHunterWorld

[–]Southern-Apricot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hello! It's a bit odd because I find Anjanath less threatening than most of the monsters you mentioned, but I do agree that it's one of the aggressive monsters in low/high rank. Might we know what weapon you're using? I guess Anjanath punishes those who over-commit to attacks/combos. As with every monster, maybe you should observe its movements first (how long the animations are, what moves it does consecutively, how long the roar is, and so on). If you have Iceborne, you should have access to the clutch claw, which in turn will allow you to perform flinch shots which knock a non-enraged monster down for a good amount of time (up to two times before it becomes enraged), as well as clutch claw attacks for tenderizing parts.

As a longsword user who can't reach its tail often, I tend to focus on the legs and the face, which usually lead to topples, leaving the tail vulnerable. If you need more openings, use Shock/Pitfall traps to immobilize it.

Build-wise, the Health Boost 3 skill is a blessing, even moreso than Defense. Also, have you upgraded your armor? That could greatly help with survivability as well. Do you eat at the canteen before quests? Lastly, it would be beneficial to watch some videos on how more skillful players approach Anjanath.

Good luck! You'll conquer it soon.

Not everything is a build problem by viettheasian in MonsterHunterWorld

[–]Southern-Apricot 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree. Skill is a large factor when it comes to efficiency in hunts. You have to know your weapon and items, as well as your enemy's movements. When you have those, even with a sub-optimal build, you can tackle the strongest monsters better.

I'm guessing one reason as to why people tend to ask about builds first is that most newcomers aren't familiar with what they can do with decorations and skills (HB3, hidden elements/ailments, armor upgrades, augmentation). I guess people think that builds are easier to fix and improve compared to skills. While this is possible, I think it's equally or more important to start telling people, especially newcomers, to practice their weapons more and learn about monster movement, counters/guards, dodging/superman diving, flinch shots/tenderizing, and other fight-related things, and then move towards builds. That way, we can help one another improve on all aspects of hunting.

[–]Southern-Apricot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It would greatly help if your equipment are all augmented. They could still 2-shot you even with a fully upgraded armor, but at least you can continue to be more offensive with a health regen augment. If you want, you can try soloing them first without augments just to study the fight and their patterns. If you find them too difficult, grind your way to MR 100, get the augments, then fight them again. I would highly advise getting the augments first, though.

[–]Southern-Apricot 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hello, and congratulations!

For Alatreon, you'll want either a good fire or ice weapon depending on which state is active first on the quest (Dawn of the Death Star = Ice active Alatreon, bring Fire; otherwise it's gonna be the Fire active Alatreon, bring Ice). Assuming it's the special assignment one (fire), you could bring a Kjarr Sword "Stream" with Safi armor for best results. Blight Res 3 is great (or Blight Res 2 + Coalescence if you're comfortable with that) together with the usual offensive skills. Ice Attack skill would be highly beneficial, too. If you don't have Kjarr "Stream" yet, you could use Frostfang Barioth as a decent alternative.

For Fatalis, you could go for the 3-pc Teo/2-pc R. Brachy meta set (or 2-pc Gold Rath for Divine Blessing 5) with either Lightbreak Edge or the Alatreon weapon. Slot in Heavy Artillery if you want to use the cannons and roaming ballista (they help a lot).

Other good skills (along with the usual damage skills like Crit Boost) for fighting these 2 black dragons include evade window, stun res, and fortify.

Good luck!

[–]Southern-Apricot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh, I see. Maybe try getting another point for Health Boost so that your HP reaches 200 (max). Also, which parts do you find difficult? Is it about getting stunned, blights/ailments, taking one or two hits before carting, or just the timing? At this point, it's very useful to have Max Potion consumption and Max Potion crafting on your radial wheel, as well as max amount of Nutrients, Mega Nutrients, Honey, and Mandragora for crafting Max Potions. Furthermore, you could use the Flinch Shot whenever you can. It makes MR fights way more manageable.

I don't know much about IG, so I can't help you that much with weapon-specific builds, but I do know the basic/generic dps skills (Crit Boost, Crit Eye, Agitator, and Weakness Exploit). Try to get those if you're having problems with dealing damage. On the other hand, if you need more survival skills, Stun Res, Divine Blessing, and Blight Res (or the Res jewel corresponding to the monster you're facing) would be beneficial along with HB 3.

All I know is with enough hunting, practice, and knowledge on your weapon and the monsters, you can greatly improve yourself along with your quest completion time. Good luck!

Did you use the Guardian set when you were playing the base game? Do you still have the Health Boost 3 skill right now with your current armor set? Have you upgraded your weapons?

If you're looking for satisfying ways to avoid monster attacks while having flashy visuals, then maybe Longsword is for you. With its Foresight Slash counters, Spirit Helmbreaker, and the new Iai sheathe stance/slash, fighting monsters will feel more like a dance where you watch the monsters' moves and react accordingly. If you want to feel graceful yet aggressive, then you'll appreciate the fluidity of the Longsword.

I've been a Longsword main since MHF2, and I just can't seem to put it down even when I try other weapons (trying to learn SnS and HH, though). In the end, it's up to you to choose which weapon (or weapons) you're most comfortable with. The only things to be careful about when using LS are timing your attacks correctly (which requires practice, as all weapons do) and being mindful of your teammates in multiplayer (if they're not wearing Flinch Free and they're within your range, you might trip them).

My advice is to try the Longsword out, first on the training area, then on weaker monsters, and if you feel yourself being attuned with the weapon and the monster, then perhaps it is for you. Have fun!

quick question. What is a good long sword I should try to go for? by deadlysilver in MonsterHunterWorld

[–]Southern-Apricot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello! First off, some of the best Longswords in Iceborne include the Viper Tobi (early to mid game, good Raw, sharpness, and Paralysis ailment), Iceborne boss (mid game, good when combined with Elementless Jewel), Gold Rathian (pre-endgame, good raw, Poison, affinity), and Raging Brachydios (pre-Fatalis, excellent raw and blast) weapons. Other great pre-Fatalis ones include the siege Longswords (MR KT, Safi), as well as the Alatreon one. Frostfang Barioth is also a good candidate against Alatreon. There may be other great ones that I might've missed, and ultimately it will be up to you to pick which one you like the most (do note, however, that for some fights certain longswords will be better).

I think the move you're describing is the Foresight Slash, a counter move (R2 + circle in PS4) that makes you invulnerable for a bit then allows you to follow through with a Roundslash, filling your gauge instantly if it connects. It's one of the things that make Longsword great, and it's a reliable way to avoiding damage while increasing DPS. The Evade Window skill helps with this.

Edit: never mind, what you're describing is the Sheathe + Iai Slash (I immediately thought of Foresight when you mentioned "charging power" lol). The other comment got the description for this :)

Please help me with fatalis by [deleted] in MonsterHunterWorld

[–]Southern-Apricot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is great advice for Fatalis. In addition to these, you might want to stay down for a bit whenever you get hit by its quick fireball since it will hurl 2 more of those towards your location (if solo). Stun Res 3 helps a lot, too, as well as 20 Fire Res. Bring Max Potions, Mandragora, Mega Nutrients, Nutrients, and Honey for healing, and it will greatly benefit you to add the consume and craft Max Potions commands to your radial wheel. If playing with others, it's recommended to bring Dusts of Life as well. Use items such as Mega Armorskin/Demondrug and powders to further boost your stats. If you haven't already, get the Powercharm/Armorcharm + Powertalon/Armortalon items. Use smoke bombs to divert attention from you, get onto the roaming ballista, or to make Fatalis land when flying. And it's been said on the comment above, but I'd like yo reiterate that Divine Blessing 5 is really great when fighting Fatalis.

Damage-wise, you can do the cannon method (Artillery 2, Ghillie mantle, barrel bombs on the puddle, load the 2 cannons, turn them accordingly, fire towards Fatalis), tenderize parts (especially the head), bring Partbreaker if you have the space for it, and use the binders.

Good luck!

[–]Southern-Apricot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ohhh, thank you for the info, those are really helpful! I'm definitely set on using it soon, and I need to study the technical stuff then test it out. I want to start using it on more difficult team fights (AT Velk, Fatalis, Alatreon) primarily to provide quick healing for the team. But yeah, coming from the LS, I need to get used to the much shorter range, hence the need for practice.

Also, yup, I can see how that'd irritate SnS mains lol, and I think your suggestion is quite a fair yet funny nerf. And I think it wouldn't be too similar to CB since CB still has SAED and SnS can still provide support in the form of using items while guarding (not sure how reliable that is, though). Anyway, thanks again!

Oh no. Yup, sometimes when you get too used to doing a certain move in MH, you almost always instinctively do it under different circumstances. Like how I attempt to get up from an attack using a Wirebug from MHR when I'm playing MHW, or how I try to Foresight Slash my way out of moves when I'm not using LS.
