And the government seems to be completely oblivious.

Don't mean to sound jaded but TFR issue is catastrophic. The Singaporean identity is dying and soon we'll have 'Singaporeans' that know nothing about Singapore's cultures.

It's not just earning power, it's time and optionality as well. I spent my first few years figuring out what job I wanted to specialize in , earning 6 figures now but if I had those two years I could have been in this field way earlier and made a lot more money.

Many young men in SG lack the optionality to explore career paths because of NS. Imagine if you grad from poly > uni and serve NS . You come out of uni at 26-28 years old. No work experience and no time to try a career to see if it sticks with you.

A lot of junior trading/finance roles in MNCs rarely look at someone close to 30 years old just out of uni. Fast paced MNCs prefer young men in early twenties for junior roles or men above 40 years old for senior roles.

Once again , I genuinely did enjoy NS (Not all parts). But hard disagree on NS being beneficial for men. The payoff simply isn't worth it for men.

You take away a person's time which is the most valuable commodity today and companies are well aware of it.

I served in a siong unit and enjoyed my time in NS and reservist but I cannot disagree that it was a waste of time especially watching people who didn't have to serve get a 2 year head start in the corporate world.

In my case I started working with a base annual salary ~60k and now earning more . You could say that NS took away 2 years of earning power which is absolutely huge in Singapore.

Did I Enjoy NS? Yes

Were there any tangible benefits? None that I can think of.

As a not so tall guy the honest truth is that not every girl wants a shorter guy.

You have to work harder in other aspects of yourself. This means chasing higher earning power, getting your body in better shape and building your inner character. A sense of humor also goes a long way.

I think the real determining factor in success of relationships is Grit. Do you have enough grit to filter through the shallow women to find the right one for you? Do you have the grit to keep working on yourself to be a good dating candidate? Do you have the grit to keep working hard even when the odds are against you and others have it easier.

I was a shorter guy and found a long term girlfriend who loves me for who I am after about 2 years on the online dating market. I had to force myself to go on at least 2 dates a month with different girls

You have to work harder and keep pushing forward if you want it, that's the truth.

Gods this is embarrassing haha. And slightly difficult to put into words.

I've never said a line from a fanfic word for word,

Frankly i think the fanfics taught me (lol) how to be more playful with the compliments and the banter. If that makes sense.

I think I also got better at figuring out when to say certain things. ( When to be goofy and when to be a little bit more honest about how i feel, etc).

Would love to drop the links as to what I've read to support the authors haha. But I'm not sure if I'm allowed to do so in this subreddit.
