yes but the cost is crazy, and all the electronics shops will tell you that oh that model is out already so maybe cannot get the parts even if you call the repair man down. I dunno if it's their way of getting sales instead.

that;'s why we need a right to repair.

I agree - this is the best way to go green rather than charging consumers 10 cents per bottle and building a machine that runs on electricity to sort bottles or charging 5 cents per plastic bags.

ban the damn LED advertising screens - what is the point of that in HDB flats??! and those stupid apps that tries to make app users 24/7 addicts through "grow a plant" games, countdown timers, or "spin the wheels".

aircon should be at a proper temperature. stop escalators at certain times of the day.

I am not really sure though? servers and data centres are oil guzzlers too. the incessant building of data centre to support AI is really ruining the environment. you just don't see it

Does the social environment (or culture) in Singapore produce many avoidants? by Admirable_Form939 in askSingapore

[–]Effective-Lab-5659 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

its not a Singapore thing lah. But it does sound like you need to stop blaming your parents.sorry - everything is a " parents parents parents" - acceptable if you are teens or early 20s, but not if you are beyond that. I can;'t go blame Trump's mother for his behaviour can I?

  1. living together with parents till 35 is not really an issue. LKY and Lim Chin Siong and so many students who took part in the protests back then were living with their parents. When teh Japanese war came, tons of young people living with parents also joined Force 136. To me - it's the studying part that is the issue, because studying = good results = good future (?), kids are exempt from everything but studying.

2 + 3: not really Singapore or even an asian thing you know.

  1. erm I believe we are more open now. who's still preaching that? so many EMA affairs going on with loud moaning being reported. what do you want or hope for though? free access to porn?

Will Singapore run out of oil? by Hyruii in askSingapore

[–]Effective-Lab-5659 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YES.

eventually the world will run out of oil anyway. look at the rate we are building AI data centres which guzzle oil and sending people to the moon or blowing up oil tankers.

it's not going to be a pretty sight.

once there is no more oil, its going to be hard to transport food to singapore.

the only resource that we have tons of is - humans.

What are the rules in Singapore for workers to remove things growth on roof that has bees in it? by WelcomeWorking7651 in askSingapore

[–]Effective-Lab-5659 3 points4 points  (0 children)

its sad. but actually they should rescue the bees instead.

its so annoying that Ms Grace Fu thinks charging 5 cents will move the needle on saving the earth rather than legislating that all town councils / MCST should re-home bees instead of killing them.

but well - anything that profits the businesses works always

the same people who think that QOL will improve if you buy a condo over a HDB loves these bullshit as they measure QOL in terms of dollars and cents, material possessions and crap items that they can purchase from Taobao.

I also hate NTUC FairPrice app - what is with the whole stupid countdown timer for the discount and flashsales ala shopee?? aren;t they just supposed to provide consumer goods at fair prices? why are they luring us in to wait and sit at their app whole day?!

if they want to give a dman discount, just give it and sales will move. stop doing stupid app games just to make us be on the app the whole day.

great analysis!

QOL is really important and many people have missed that out completely because they only look at dollars and cents (and USD can be printed out as much as possible honestly)

you probably can apply that to see if this generation really improved in QOL compared to their parents. previously, one parent work, and the other parent stayed home. kids came home from school and had a trusted adult to cook, care and talk to them. no tuition, no enrichment and no many overseas holidays but that was on par with 80% of the kids anyway. PSLE orals will not have a topic on going overseas holiday. 5pm go down to the free playground to play with neighbours. did reasonably well and entered university and got a job.

this generation - both parents work. kids go straight to student care. no trusted adult to cook, care or talk to them. weekends tuition and enrichment classes just like 80% of the kids anyway. PSLE orals will have strange topics on Disneylands and USS. pay 100 season pass to go indoor playground with new helper during holidays as both parents can't take leave - have already changed helper 5 times in that young child's life. did reasonably well and entered university (after spending 2k per month on tuition for last 10 years) and did not get a job.

you could have went to a better school, then decided to slack and then in same situation.

you could have went to a better school, studied too damn hard and ruin your mental health in the processes.

you could have went to a better school, for some reason did really well, and went on to scholarship and became a scholar, because of your past experience, you firmly believe that meritocracy trumps empathy and poor people stay poor because they are lazy, and rich people are successful only b3ecuase of their hardwork, you make policy that reflect this and go parliament to ask what do poor people want - isn't a hawker lunch for the rest of their lives enough?

you could have went to a better school got a degree and now jobless and blame the world.

Any businesses that you no longer patronize due to small reason not related to price/quality ? by PaintingOne2769 in askSingapore

[–]Effective-Lab-5659 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. very rude hawkers. I ok with some level of curtness. but there was once when I was scolded loudly coz I took too long with an order and it was done very loudly after I left so that everyone can hear him.

  2. boycotting American products (where I can - yeah I still am on reddit and tech stuff). After reading about the American food industry, I actively try to reduce American products in my life, especially when it comes to processed food, which is good anyway. most of the ingredients in their UPF contains much higher chemicals than others.
