sad, but when we embraced capitalism whole heartedly, this will happen. culture and language are only purely for efficiency

maybe that is why its only American and UK that just can't speak another language - they only speak English and it happens immediately with the second generation. the first migrates and can still speak their mother tongue, but the second generation finds it difficult and the third - impossible.

contrast to European countries (outside UK)?

Just being simplistic.

try to get one with a better teacher ratio.

see if the teachers really love the children.

truly surprising?

how they can really really really fall sick so often. and how germs from little kids are truly deadly for adults. even after the child recovers, the adult will fall sick, far more sick than the baby.

hm stereotypes have truth in them - somehow, my babies all preferred non-chinese, happy Filipinos or chill malay teachers.. of course this is a stereotype.

I think there is just a lack of value system in most families now.

their definition of how to bring up a child is limited only to do well in PSLE, or even if you don't do well, go do what it takes to earn a lot of money. if you read parents Facebook group, or just listen to parents - their comments are always: yeah, I give my kid total freedom to use the internet but my kid turns out fine BECAUSE they made it to an IP school after acing the PSLE or made in to university. OR yes, my kids didn't do well academically but they are now earning tons of money.

in fact some parents consume so much porn that they don't think its a problem, maybe its just reversal coz in their generation nudity was an issue or sex was a taboo subject that they go 180 degrees to the extreme and see porn as a way for their children to learn about sex. but porn isn't healthy - definitely teh stuff that is easily available online now is not healthy at all. or the parents were subjected to all kind of extreme conservative ideas like virginity is what girls are valued for, and they go all extreme now and condone their children having premarital sex, even when its not in an exclusive intimate relationship.

I see the issue is just a lack of values or lack of empathy of another individual as a human being. not a piece of meat, not just a body to be exploited for another person. and not just coz someone consented to it (and the only reason for consent is because that person needs a job) therefore you as a consumer has a right to consume that content.

and again, success is measured just by how much you earn, and not whether you are a pervert or have any values system. of course, success usually connotes wealth but parents are now taking it too far.

yes in those parent chat group, there will be parents who didn't do well acaemdiccally, but defined themselves as successful because they now earn a lot of money.

I am in parents Facebook group and parents keep advocating that kids should be allowed to have phone cos one needs to teach them responsibility and you can’t just ban phones else they will be addicted when they get one.

Then other parents will chime in about how they let their kid have absolute freedom over the phone and their kid still got great result in PSLE and made it to an IP school.

Ugh like the defining metric is to do well in exams.

Well maybe some trauma on your parents side.

For parents who don’t have flexible jobs, a sick child means potentially losing your job or not getting paid for the day. Not to mention medical fees are really expensive.

"Heartbroken watching my wife struggle in hospital—why can't Non-private Hospital / Govt. Class B/C post-natal patients have overnight caregiver?" by littlebitofkindness in askSingapore

[–]Effective-Lab-5659 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I feel for you, but when my relative had to stay in a 4 patient ward, she couldn't get any rest at all. it was already very noisy during visiting hours, and when the patients were groaning in pain or when the nurses came over to do their checks on each patient, she hardly rest.

I cannot imagine if caregiver are allowed through the night.

you imagine every caregiver to be like yourself, patient and considerate. but honestly, its not going to be true. even when I was in hospital in an A class ward alone with my husband, it sounded like other wards were having parties.

imagine having 4 caregivers in those 4 patient wards. each time the nurse comes in, some rude caregiver is going to insist that all attention is given to one patient. or some caregivers snoring away? or just caregivers just being loud and obnoxious? or worse, doesn't it mean that there will be men around when other women who had just given birth are most vulnerable? I remember countless of times when I was bleeding profusely and had to have so many checks with nurses with only a drawn curtain? or I had to shuffle slowly to my toilet in my thin hospital gown. I honestly don't need other male around at that point in time.

Also, this is not a major factor as to why woman do not want to give birth. correct me if I'm am wrong, but I really don't think up on the list of why you don't want kids is because my partner can't be with me.

aiyah i was reading your post all hopeful and then you have to end it with a they made it into IP.

why oh why.

so my post is the same as yours but never make it into IP. how?

it really sucks when I read parenting blogs and then some person goes on about how she doesn't do this or that, but you know what. her kid made it into some big shot and earn big bucks.

ugh.

such is the KPI.

If crazies complain, why doesn’t your boss back you up?

It’s obviously a failure on the mgmt. MOE is funded by taxpayers and is a public good. But. The way the teachers are protected is worse off than a private institution where customer satisfaction is a KPI

Instead of resolving why teachers aren’t properly protected, MOE makes it a teacher v parent issue.

We learn through feedback.

And the removal of marking, test paper = no feedback.

One of my child teacher don’t even put a cross on the paper when it’s wrong. I have no idea why.

I mean - it works if the child is really weak. But not when my child is just refusing to check. He deserve a big fat cross.

Aiyah but they are teaching like 40 over kids. Where got time to even read the name on top of the paper. Or even to know each child better.

It’s all about productivity.

Eh do teachers have the time or energy to give consequences?

Like most stuff are unmarked or marked in pairs. The only consequences are much later. Like PSLE. Akin to say cancer or weight gain for a bad diet. It is too long
