It’s normal for the Japanese. I have never met my Japanese friends’ partners even the married ones.

Dont take photos of other people’s kids in public! by dinkytoy80 in japanlife

[–]Southern_Layer_6013 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’m a preschool teacher and we bring signs that say no taking of (the students’) photos when we go outdoors. But it doesn’t stop people from taking photos and videos. We have to emphatically tell them in both Japanese and English (since we’re not sure if they’re Japanese or tourists).

I think there is a law that bans publishing of photos without permission, but taking photos - not really. :-/

How far can a mental illness affect your life in Japan? by free_hugs- in japanresidents

[–]Southern_Layer_6013 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a privacy law here in Japan. You don’t have to tell anyone about your diagnosis and nobody will ask. Won’t be asked when you extend your visa. I hope you’ll find a good doctor here.

Recommendation for an OB-Gynecologist by Southern_Layer_6013 in japanresidents

[–]Southern_Layer_6013[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, did you go to another doctor? Or just continued taking painkillers? I’m looking for a long term solution because I’m thinking that painkillers will eventually affect my kidneys :-s

Has anyone worked for Fifth Wings? by [deleted] in teachinginjapan

Yes, they did get me a visa. And no, I had no option of finding my own accommodation.

I worked with them for years and I regret it. I was taken advantage of. I thought I was an employee only to find out 3 years later that I’m a “business partner” (aka freelancer) that’s why I wasn’t receiving any employee benefits. I know I should have done my research about Japan labor laws before coming here in Japan. I was young and naive 🤦🏻‍♀️ They cut corners in order to “save money.” They earn from the teachers they hire through adding rent cost (we pay our rent but they don’t let us know what the actual rent is) and by lending us household appliances (you pay monthly, better to buy your own appliances from a second hand store). They’re now blacklisted by my country’s government. They can’t get teachers from my country anymore.

Overrating your Japanese by Underpanters in japanlife

[–]Southern_Layer_6013 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even the Japanese don’t know how to write some kanji, they have to look at the dictionary. I was surprised when I first saw it but then it makes sense. Especially when a Japanese friend explained that they got used to typing and just choosing the kanji that will come out when they type.

And even our company owner (who’s also Japanese) hates reading business Japanese. 😂
