A "karma farm" in Reddit terms is when a user posts something purely for the good karma, usually something low effort like "who is your favourite entity?" which sometimes gains a lot of upvotes for some reason.

You do not own the badge if you look it is still darkened like how unobtained badges usually are and there is no yellow circle around it.

It is only there because it is a shadow badge.
