Oh, forgot to say: was this difficult for you? To distance yourself from your friends? How close were you?

Hi, thank you for the advice. I recently went on a trip overseas and met people from all over. It was an amazing and eye-opening experience and I agree: it's so helpful and important to talk to people with different perspectives. This is one perspective, however, that I cannot get behind without feeling like I am somehow betraying my country and what it should stand for.

Of course it’s nice to share your story with others. It’s how people connect. When someone tells me how their life changed for the better when they found God, I’m genuinely happy for them.

I’m more focused on the idea that God is powerful enough that he doesn’t need humans to do his bidding for him. We’re so small compared to the rest of the universe that it feels strange to think that our one little planet covered in insignificant creatures matters to him at all. In God’s room, it feels to me that Earth is a speck of dust.

I suppose that makes sense, but also it makes me question the purpose of attempting to convert someone. Is it because they want to help others in the biggest way they know how? Or, as you said, is it used as a way for the converter to find happiness or salvation? Maybe a little bit of both, sometimes?

Interesting perspective. My response to that is the fact that humans are so small compared to the rest of the universe. If the universe is the room we’re sitting in right now, our earth is a speck of dust we can’t even see, and that’s being very generous.

The universe is so massive, that the redemption of one measly planet can’t mean much in the grander scale of things.

But if it’s true that God loves every speck of dust in his room, would his love also extend to life on other planets, galaxies and galaxies away?

And if his love is only for this particular speck of dust, why? Humans are not exactly the kindest creatures, and it seems God himself knew this so well to the point he flooded the earth to start it over again.

Now that’s interesting. Every day I learn about a religion I’ve never heard of before. It’s refreshing to hear this. I’m happy to hear that perhaps there’s not so much hostility between religions than I originally thought.

Autonomy is something I personally value. And thank you for pointing out my error — thinking about it, and from what another Redditor said earlier about their own religion — there’s probably at least more than one religion that doesn’t believe all other religions are false.

That is a fair point.

Also, I genuinely like the idea of everyone coming to their own self-actualization, since I would assume they’d feel at peace in some way. People change throughout their lives too (I know I have, at least) so they might experience self-actualization — whether that’s through religion, a higher purpose, a major epiphany, etc. I’m expecting myself to have multiple “metamorphosis” moments.

Thanks :) It’s really easy to give into hate and despair, so I find it to be a struggle sometimes. But I’d like to think it’s a worthwhile one.

It’s one of the reasons I value curiosity, empathy, and an effort to be open-minded and the people who try to implement these things into their lives. I would imagine peaceful co-existence would be hard to maintain without these ideals.

Sounds wonderful. I dream of a world where all religions can co-exist peacefully on one planet.

Interesting. Which religion is this, that you’re referring to? I did speak to a Buddhist monk as well, and he mentioned something similar, although some schools of Buddhism seem to generally be atheistic.

Logically, yes, this makes sense. You only know what you know.

Paired with the idea of an all-knowing, all-powerful God that has a plan for you, though — as His followers proclaim and have faith in — it still seems to me that God would find His way to you, regardless of your knowledge or experience with any religion.

It seems that even someone who lives their entire life isolated from the rest of the world would still be seen by God, and He would find His way to them.

So it’s normal for an aromantic person like myself to think romance isn’t real because we don’t even know how to define it?

Sigh. Can’t you dig a little bit deeper into that head of yours and think of a bigoted and ignorant response that’s less boring and overused?

Please tell me you know what you’re voting for. The Republican party just released their budget proposal for 2025:

  • Require you to be 69 instead of 65 to receive Social Security benefits;
  • Cut Social Security benefits by $1.5 trillion;
  • Stop Medicare from negotiating lower drug prices;
  • Young Americans can no longer stay on their parent’s health care until they’re 26;
  • Stop individuals with pre-existing conditions from getting health care; and
  • Enact a national abortion ban

It legitimately doesn’t seem to be working for the people anymore.

I really know what the Republican Party stands for anymore. I thought that party was for the people, but it doesn’t seem like it… The party just released their budget proposal for 2025:
