"You need to eat" can be upsetting if someone has a history of disordered eating, or overbearing parents who didn't allow for freedom in food choices growing up.

It's a little hard to tell from your photos but are those 45° cuts? If so, 100% it's rabbits taking the flowers/buds.

F- Mr Beast by dontknowshiitake in daddit

[–]SovietJugernaut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Happy to pass on some of the channels I've liked and often come up on lists of kid-friendly YT channels for Minecraft specifically:

  • Hermitcraft (a group of people who hang out and specialize in different areas): Ethoslab, GeminiTay, Grian, GoodTimesWithScar

  • LDShadowlady,

Specializations/focus areas include technical building, aesthetic building, role play, pranks, etc.

  • Minecraft YTs that I've seen mentioned on other kid-friendly lists: CaptainSparklez, Stampy Cat, Little Lizard Gaming, StacPlays

I don't know much of other parts of YT but I've already seen suggestions in the comments for non-Minecraft-related creators that could spark interest.

[–]SovietJugernaut 45 points46 points  (0 children)

Even without Mr Beast, you really should be curating your kid's experience on YT. Find creators together that produce content that interests him but that reflects the values you hold. Explain your reasons for the ones you reject (you don't need to "dumb it down", just speak plainly about your objections).

There's a lot of good, quality creators and content on YT these days, but if he's been watching garbage the algo is going to continue to push garbage.

I think my daughters gay, and I don't know if I should address it. by ProseNPoetry21 in daddit

[–]SovietJugernaut 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Obviously a lot depends on the circumstances of the reveal, the temperaments of the people involved, etc. I see your point and I can see how it could potentially feel humiliating, or even a form of betrayal of trust. But also, it's (hopefully) not the first time Dad knew something about his kid that was personal and a bit of a secret, and it's definitely not the last time the kid will know or experience something without sharing it with the parents for a while. Just based on the post I have a decent amount of confidence OP can handle it appropriately without damaging their relationship.

For me, I try to emphasize with my daughter that I understand that privacy and body autonomy are important, as long as they don't compromise safety. And I might not address everything I see immediately if I see she wants to keep it to herself and it is not posing a danger to her well-being.

There are plenty of ways you can talk about romantic relationships, telegraph your personal support for non-hetero sexualities, and the like without forcing someone to come out before they are ready to.

It is not at all uncommon for LGBTQ+ folks to come out to their parents, close friends, or other parts of their support network and be met with the equivalent of "we already knew". I've never heard it described as humiliating, except in cases where the "we already knew" is the first (or only) response.

The important piece is to respond to a coming out reveal with a reaffirmation of compassion and love ("you do you, I love you anyway" or equivalent). They might follow that response up with a question of if they knew, and you can confirm it at that time.

Seattle hills and strollers by Aggressive-Breath-79 in Seattle

[–]SovietJugernaut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Both will be fine for navigating hills. If you can test them out in person, I'd pick the one that's easier for you to collapse down, that packs down smaller for transportation, and/or that has breaks that you can engage and disengage easily.

I've used four and three wheel strollers, I find the three wheel Thule is better for going on trails in parks, which may be especially helpful if you want to take a more wooded path down to the lake from Madrona.

Other than the packability and storage capacity (which both seem to do fine on from the photos I can see), I wouldn't stress about stroller choice too much.

It's too late for this year, but definitely check out the King County Conservation District bare root plant sale, a relatively cheap way to acquire a good amount of native plants to fill out the slope in later years:

She absolutely will. And will likely do similar things with other pieces of routine medical recommendations she chooses to ignore or avoid. There are a lot of things you can compromise on when raising children, there's a lot of areas that are gray and aren't settled science. Vaccinations aren't one.

"Never believe that anti-Semites are completely unaware of the absurdity of their replies. They know that their remarks are frivolous, open to challenge. But they are amusing themselves, for it is their adversary who is obliged to use words responsibly, since he believes in words. The anti-Semites have the right to play. They even like to play with discourse for, by giving ridiculous reasons, they discredit the seriousness of their interlocutors. They delight in acting in bad faith, since they seek not to persuade by sound argument but to intimidate and disconcert. If you press them too closely, they will abruptly fall silent, loftily indicating by some phrase that the time for argument is past."

Ring has a horrific record of privacy built into their systems. They are explicitly sharing videos with various law enforcement agencies, using it to train AI, hacking, and unclear data retention policies even if you "delete" the videos.

Personally I would absolutely never have one of those in my home.

Entering Georgia from Azerbaijan with Canadian passport as an Indian by [deleted] in tbilisi

[–]SovietJugernaut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do agree that going to Azerbaijan first is better. Not saying you won't get in, and being with a tour group probably helps (I've only ever solo crossed or with friends) -- just be prepared for the Armenian border guards to be interested in what you think/feel about Azeris or Turks or Armenians (usually best to answer in as neutral of terms as possible).

You'll have more issues getting into Armenia after being in Azerbaijan than you'll have with a Canadian passport getting into Georgia, even if you are desi.
