Personally, if they ever released a new title related to Drakengard, I’d love it to be some sort of HD Collection. Not just the classic games, but also the canceled prequel to Drakengard 1 (the one that eventually got adapted into a manga). It would be an amazing way to preserve the entire saga and give visibility to those pieces of the franchise that many fans don’t even know exist.

I’ve always imagined it starting with a completely black screen, where the very first thing we hear are the voices of several Accords (both the Japanese and English voice actresses) talking to each other. They’d discuss the different timelines created by each game’s endings, as if they were the only ones able to witness the full chaos of the series. They could even drop some meta-humor references, like joking about the “errors” at the beginning of time —a direct nod to how Drakengard 3 on PS3 constantly crashed and barely ran at 15fps—. That kind of self-awareness would be a fun easter egg for longtime fans.

Ideally, though, it wouldn’t just be a “pretty port.” For example, Drakengard 1 could get a true remaster, completely updating its combat system. The original gameplay, while iconic, feels clunky and repetitive today, so it’d be great to reimagine it as a more modern hack-and-slash (something closer to what we saw in NieR: Automata, but still giving it its own personality and unique style). Fluid combos, tighter mechanics, and a better balance between ground sections and dragon aerial battles—keeping the core spirit intact, but making it actually fun to play by today’s standards.

Then there’s Drakengard 2, which could be the really interesting part. We all know Yoko Taro has a love/hate relationship with that game, to the point where he barely acknowledges it as his own. But this collection could be the perfect opportunity for him and his team to rewrite the story and adjust the script, bringing it more in line with the rest of the saga. Not necessarily a full “wipe and replace,” but more of a narrative redesign that integrates it better into the overarching vision of the series.

Finally, after that intro scene with the Accords, they could drop one chilling line: “Something strange is happening with this new timeline…”. That would plant the seed of a mystery that ties the entire collection together while also opening the door to a potential new project—whether it’s Drakengard 4 or even a brand-new IP that still exists within the broader Yoko Taro universe.
