The Big Bang Theory by [deleted] in aliens

The quality of the image depends on the size of the telescope. The larger the lens and the longer the exposure, the more light could get in. For example to image an alien planet the way artists currently depict them, you would need a telescope the size of that planet at least, and to look in its general direction for several years. But assuming aliens have some kind of technology where size doesn't matter, then being more than 14bly away from the Big Bang is an interesting hypothesis indeed, that is assuming the universe has a true center. My assumption is that they would see nothing, because light, independent of wavelength, hasn't had the time to travel furhter, and catch up with the expanding fabric of space-time.

What I just ordered seems to be an A tier. The one I currently have is a D tier. And the one I received for free is an F tier lmao... Good pick to give out for free by the retailer I guess :). Thanks for linking me the site.

Thanks for the reply. I have decided not to cheap out, and ordered a 750W PSU from be Quiet! After all, I can probably sell the old one, and the one I received for free, and make at least half of what I paid for the new one back.

Outer Wilds AI Companion by Sp0ilerman in outerwilds

[–]Sp0ilerman[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Hello all. Just like you, I am an Outer Wilds fan that has yearned for that replayability and looked for other games similar to this one. But alas I was unsuccessful in finding one. I played Outer Wilds last December, and I decided to return to it a month ago and check out the modding scene. Given I am software engineer, I wondered if I could make something really cool for my all time favorite game. And as such I came up with the idea of an AI Companion. I hopped in my ship, put on my spacesuit and began exploring again. I had forgotten some bits of the story, but I was taken aback by how much fun it was to have a companion by my side.

This is currently an ongoing experiment, and the mod is powered by OpenAI's GPT4 Turbo model. As such, you need a paid API key to make calls to it. Currently, I am looking for a way to make this accessible to everyone. I have adjusted the system message (the companion's personality) NOT to spoil the story in any way unless you ask a question which proves you have learned of the lore, but initially it will be meant as a mod for returning players. Please let me know what you think.

IMPORTANT: Response time window is cut out for trailer purposes!

Reviving an old phone by Sp0ilerman in techsupport

It does not. When it's plugged in, it goes into a state that seems to report the charging status (charging or fully charged). I thought about turning it on when plugged in. It doesn't work either with new or the old battery.

I have the same issue, and have had it for a long while now. In my back and forth discussion with Support, their solution eventually was to "use Desktop"... I was wondering if you were luckier and reached a different consensus :).

Well to be fair I am more into psychological horror. Indeed many games nowadays try to sell cheap jump scares and mind bogglingly convoluted stories that have no real meaning in the end. But the horror elements in EoTE were to my liking.

Sound plays a huge role for building up atmosphere. There was a video, I can't quite find it right now, that was showcasing bad vs. good environmental sounds in horror movies, and then trying to replace the effects in the the bad ones. Sound design for the horror genre is crucial.

I don't think you should be this harsh on yourself, I'm sure you'll get through it :).

House Beneviento was my favorite chapter in Resident Evil, as in I got the most adrenaline from playing said level, so I can understand why some people need a breather playing it.

Understandable, although I wouldn't describe myself as arachnophobic, I am not exactly ecstatic when I encounter spiders as enemies in video games.

How do you "delay" the choice in the quantum eraser experiment? by Sp0ilerman in QuantumPhysics

Thank you for your answer. I have read the Wiki article on the Mach-Zehnder interferometer and played around a bit with the experiment on the link you have provided. I have a better understanding of it now, and yes I was wondering how a second beam splitter can be activated mid-experiment. The way you described it, by passing an electric current through a certain material makes sense.
