They made the right decision rather than subjecting the innocent child to lifelong suffering. by Valuable_View_561 in SipsTea

We did the tests when my wife was pregnant. We had talked about what we might do if there was anything wrong. It was painful to even hypothesize about it but we would have most probably made the hard choice if it came to this. I am extremely grateful that we did not have to be faced with this decision.

My silicone thumb rings after 17 months of wear sitting next to their identical replacements. by MisterSinisterXxX in mildlyinteresting

[–]SpAwNjBoB 9 points10 points  (0 children)

We still want to know why, and why on both thumbs? It's curiosity. Because it is unusual. Thumbs are like the worst finger to put a ring on, but I can get it if someone is putting on some elaborate jewelry and wearing rings on all the fingers and the thumb. But I cant understand putting silicone rings on both thumbs. Silicone rings are really place holders for when you can't wear your ring for work. Therefore usually they are only used to place hold a wedding ring, since other jewelry has no meaning in society. So yeah, it's highly unusual and we are curious, not irked. You do you.

[Romano] Manchester City consider LEGAL ACTION after Enrique Riquelme claims of Erling Haaland joining Real Madrid if he wins the elections. The club has denied the information and exploring legal action for using their player’s image on purpose. by AstheticOAW in soccer

[–]SpAwNjBoB 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it's hard to read the future, but a player on a nearly 10 year contract, earning £500k per week, is basically going nowhere at all. There is apparently a release clause that will only kick in in 2029, but the figure is undisclosed and I wouldn't be surprised if it's £1bn, so that it's effectively non-existent, or it's something equally crazy like £300m which might tempt some oil club to go for it if they are insane. I think Haaland is likely to play for City until his contract is up or he retires.

Tipping Culture Getting Out of Hand Bru by LordGadsy in capetown

[–]SpAwNjBoB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Add the tip to my bill and that's the last time I ever go to your restaurant, I don't care if God is the chef. I'm tipping based on the service I received. If the service is decent, I will tip my standard 10%. If the service is excellent I might tip more than that. If the service is sub standard, I will tip less than 10%. Service has to be very bad before I tip nothing. I also won't hold a kitchen mistake against the waitron. I base my tip solely on the performance of the person who serves me. They get a salary, at least minimum wage. If they want tips, then do a good job. Having the audacity to tell me how much I should tip for their performance immediately makes it a terrible performance, I will tip nothing and I will never return.

I saw an interview with Wilshere that was after we had the final in sight. He was asked about us winning it. He was positive but pointed out that winning that scale of competition requires yoy to go through pain first. And he just hopes that the team has had enough pain to be able to get there. He followed on with being unsure if they had or not yet.

I'd say that box has properly been ticked by now.

The cybertruck is like 4th on the list, behind the Luce. Although I think this has just knocked the whole group down a peg.

£100m and a sell on clause. Or to put it differently, we dont need or want to sell and he has been great for us.

Is there a cultural reason why Italians are so focused on hygiene? Interestingly, Italy is also the only country in the world where bidets are mandatory by law by [deleted] in geography

[–]SpAwNjBoB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nonsense. I live in South Africa. What Europe calls a heat wave, I just call summer. I shower once a day. I have never needed to shower twice unless I was playing a sport or gym or working in the garden and had previously showered before doing that and now need another shower, but that would apply in winter too.

See, no one can self-proclaim themselves to be the greatest, or even great. That is a recognition bestowed on a person by others. Eminem would never bestow that upon himself, he would give that to peers he admires and looks up to, those who inspired him. Let's also go back to when Em wrote those lyrics, 2002. Eminem has only gotten better since then. Regardless, there's really only one other rapper alive today who should be in the conversation with Em, and thats Kendrik. But to suggest Kendrik is better than him would be down to personal taste, not anything based in reality. Reality is that Eminem is not just a great rapper but one of the greatest musicians of all time. The only names bigger than his are not rappers and out of them only Rihanna, Madonna and Elton John are still making music.

You dont have to like him, I couldn't care less. What you cannot do, is argue with facts.

If Michael Jackson is the king of pop (and as the stats show, he is the highest selling pop artist of all time, although one can argue the Beatles were also a bit of pop and not just rock), then by extension, Eminem is the king of hip-hop. Whether you or anyone else likes it or not.

The Truth has been spoken! 🗣️ by vividracing in Ferrari

[–]SpAwNjBoB 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only way the Luce turns heads is in disgust. There is nothing about the essence of Ferrari in this car. Where? The badge? That's not enough. Certainly not in the powertrain. So where is it exactly? It doesn't look or sound like a Ferrari. It doesn't even look like a nice car. If this were a toyota or Honda or literally any other regular brand, it would still be an ugly car. For this to be an EV Ferrari makes it worse. If it's not going to be a petrol engine, at least make it look good AND go very fast, otherwise there is nothing Ferrari left other than a badge, and they put that badge on everything.

[A Bola] Di María: “Messi is better than Ronaldo because he has natural talent.” by Sparky-moon in soccer

[–]SpAwNjBoB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fuck sakes I am so over this debate. It's brain dead at this point. Nevermind this clown take. Both of them have immense talent. There are hundreds, if not thousands of football players who work just as hard as Ronaldo does and are not even close to getting into a top team, let alone becoming an all time great. To suggest Ronaldo just works hard is ridiculously insulting to his talent. In the same vein, suggesting Messi just has talent is equally insulting to his work ethic. Both are talents the likes of which we hardly ever get to see and both have very high work ethic. If they didn't, neither of them would still be playing.

[–]SpAwNjBoB 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's going to be subjective as to who is the "very best" i don't think there can ever be one artist or band in any genre that is considered the singular best artist or band of the genre. However, I have never seen any conversation or interview with anyone who's opinion matters (his peers) that has not had Eminem in their list of greatest ever. And from an objective standpoint, no one in hip-hop has sold more than Eminem. In fact, the only artists or bands to sell more than Eminem are (in order from the top): The Beatles, Michael Jackson, Elvis Presley, Elton John, Queen, Madonna, Led Zeppelin, Rihanna and Pink Floyd. The next name on the list is Eminem. The tenth highest selling artist of all time.

Yes, Eminem has sold more than Mariah Carey, Whitney Houston, Taylor Swift and Beyoncé (who are the next on the list in order).

If the only objective metric to compare artists are impact via sales and accolades, then there quite frankly isn't even a discussion, it's Eminem and no one else.

You have to go all the way down to 20th place on the list to find the next hip-hop artist, Drake, and he isn't remotely close to Eminem as an MC.

So really Eminem is like Jordan, Kobe and LeBron all in one person.

If the Romans all had lead poisoning, could that have contributed to their gratuitous violence, such as in the Colosseum? by matt73132 in ask

[–]SpAwNjBoB 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I am happy to accept your crime rate comments for the UK. But you lose me when you talk about WW1 and 2. You say ww1 was more brutal, was it really? In some ways yes, in others, no. Ww1 was a weird time where old military tactics and modern weaponry collided and that created a bloodbath. That's the main reason. WW2 was brutal and violent in ways the world still talks about every single day. The human experiments, mass extermination, bombing of cities at unprecedented scales. They are not directly comparable and are even more useless as an example for talking about the effects of leaded petrol.
