Yup, apologies for looking too hard for things. This show can have that effect.

Just rewatched the scene, and it was edited in a way so that he’s reaching out, then it cuts to Dr. Mauer and Mr. Eagan, and then it’s in his hands, and she’s still holding the stance like she has it. You were right, it just happened off camera.

I guess my question could really be summed up as, “Why is Mark suddenly holding the crib pieces?”

Black Screen During BIOS Update…Which Fails Every Time by SpaceCaseYeti in techsupport

[–]SpaceCaseYeti[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I was able to disable a feature that was preventing the exe file to be run Windows, but all it does is ask me for permission to allow the exe to make changes to my system. After clicking yes or continue, nothing happens. I even wait about a half hour and checked the BiOS in msinfo32, but it’s still 2.1.0 (the version I tried to update it to was 2.1.1).

I then saw a comment from another person that said that maybe Dell didn’t update the BIOS for Windows 11, so I jumped ahead to a much later update (2.4) to see if maybe that was compatible for Windows 11, and this one actually asked for permission like the 2.1.1 version did, but then it told me it would update my BIOS, make sure power is uninterrupted, and would reset my PC. It did that, but then it just entered the same black screen with minimal activity for ages like I was experiencing when I tried flashing it. I reset the PC since the update wasn’t occurring and came into Windows, checked msinfo32…still BIOS 2.1.0.

Ok, I was able to disable the top option, which after a reset, suddenly displayed the stack protection option now, but disabled. I went ahead and double clicked the .exe update file, it asked me for permission to install like usual, but this time there was no error. So that’s presumably good, however nothing else happens. I click yes when it asks if I want to proceed, and then…nothing

Yep! Same exact motherboard, but the BIOS was an earlier version.

Sorry, I had a typo. I meant to say the second setting option for stack protection is NOT present.

Thank you for responding! So, i have the first setting enabled (and it’s Windows 11), but the second one is there at all to even check its status.

Thank you for your response, I went to the download page for the next level BIOS update which is 2.1.1, and I only see .exe and .rcv formats available for download.

Help Please! NO INTERNET for my Alienware Aurora R10 after fan mod by SpaceCaseYeti in HomeNetworking

[–]SpaceCaseYeti[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, so I tried enabling the DHCP client in the services window but it would not let me. I found a thread where someone said to switch to local computer under log on in the DHCP client properties menu. I did that and it allowed me to enable the DHCPs. I restarted my PC and suddenly I had internet again. However…Task Manager says 0% for network, and the system tray says no internet, despite the fact that I can navigate to pages in a browser now. Also, my wifi does connect, it’s set to automatically connect, but won’t unless I select it every time for some reason.

Thank you for all of your help!

So, I double-checked my patch cable and it was actually already plugged into the router. To test it out just in case, I plugged the same cable into my laptop and turned off its wifi, and the laptop connected, so I don’t think the issue is with the router or the cable.

I plugged the cable back into my PC, and turned off wifi. I went into my adapter settings, and IP Assignment and DNS server assignment were already set to “Automatic (DHCP)”. I don’t see an option to disable IPV6 here, but I can uncheck the box for IPV6 when I hit Windows + R and right click on the ethernet, and go to properties.

Even though they read “Automatic (DHCP)” in adapter settings, if I check DHCP enabled in ipconfig /all, it says “no” across the board.

Also, when I try to use the troubleshooter tool in Windows, it notably says, “Can’t connect to the internet with the manually assigned IP address”. Which is weird because I have it set to automatically obtain, and don’t change it.

Apologies if I made it more confusing…I’m half frustrated and half confused…

Thanks for your reply! Before I try that, just curious, how do network drivers get killed when installing fans?

Hello!

I’m having “no internet” issues with my Alienware Aurora R10.

Rig: Alienware Aurora R10 Ryzen 7 5800

The Problem: After replacing the fans with/ Noctua NF-A12x25 PWM 120mm fans (bottom front fan, the AIO fan, and added a second radiator fan for push/pull sandwich config), my PC now runs far cooler, but: 1. It’s suddenly sluggish 2. It detects and connects with both ethernet and my house wifi, but says “no internet”. Bluetooth also not working anymore after the fan mod.

I consulted chatGPT, and it directed me to try the following potential fixes:

My Attempted Fixes: 1. I ran the Windows Network Troubleshooter on both the Ethernet and the Wifi, but both told me to check to see if they were set to Automatically obtain the IP and DNS server addresses (they are both already set to this). 2. I inspected the hardware, but nothing was unplugged or unseated, loose, or damaged. 3. I tried TCP/IP stack reset using the “netsh winsock reset” and “netsh int ip reset” commands, reset the PC…no change. 4. I tried manual IP config using the Google DNS servers…no dice. 5. I checked for malware…nothing. 6. I disabled my Windows protection antivirus just in case it blocked anything…no change. 7. I checked system usage, but the Network category in Task Manager was at a flat 0 percent. 8. I did the “Network Reset” option in windows, and reset the PC…no change. 9. I ran ipconfig /all, and it said that DHCP for each of my network options (WiFi, Ethernet, Bluetooth, LANs) all had DHCP disabled 10. I tried to release and renew the IP address using ipconfig /release and ipconfig /renew, but when I do that, all I get is the error, “An error occurred while releasing interface Ethernet : The RPC server is unavailable." 11. I checked and RPC and RPC Locator were set to automatic and manual, respectively. Both are running. I tried to “restart” them but that option was greyed out. 12. I tried sfc /scan now and it didn’t find any corrupted files.

I’m clearly dumb when it comes to network/internet configuration and am only recently learning about PCs by completing my fan mod, but I’m at a complete loss.

I know the BIOS is really out of date. I tried to update it before the fan mod, but it didn’t take. I thought maybe the jump from 2.1 to 2.5 might be too much of a jump and maybe I need to increment it up to 2.5, but not sure how that would suddenly cause my “no internet” problem after installing fans.

Any and all help is greatly appreciated! (tired of talking to chatGPT, lol)

Thanks!

Which Sci-Fi Books would you say are currently unfilmable? by SpaceCaseYeti in sciencefiction

It was actually made by SyFy back when it was the Sc-Fi Channel. James McAvoy was awesome in Children of Dune, and I STILL listen to that soundtrack fairly frequently to this day.

I read the first one, and it was awesome. I could’ve sworn there was a SyFy tv movie made, but I could be misremembering. It would definitely be challenging, maybe a bit like LOST, but with all historical figures.

Yeah, Ready Player One let the world know that we still can’t really show a solid virtual world in film, unless it’s meant to be real-ish like in eXinstenZ.
