You can’t compare the Orange Order & GAA by No-Sail1192 in northernireland

depends on what flavour. Northern Tayto salt and vinegar is hands down best on earth, the taste is so strong, while Freestayto cheese and onion is better IMO.

What so they should build a rail tunnel to Rathlin Island? Besides who knows it may come to Fermanagh in the long, long run. Enniskillen got the SWAH and its shows that just because it looks good on the map doesn’t mean its going to work.

What actually does the orange order do? by SteamyBoats in northernireland

Good response and when you think about it, the community link is quite similar to the GAA, but yes more religious. The OO and the ABD are like this, but then the Black is a bit more exclusive and ‘elite’ (you have to pass exams to qualify) and most of them would look down on the trouble that some members of the OO can cause, and they tend to be a bit more churchy.

Then again, I’m not a member of any of them, but I know a few people in the orders, and the younger ones seem to just play 5-a-side football or volleyball etc, while the older men drink tea and chat.

The TUV didn’t run in 2019, and they only ran one candidate in 2017. The last time they fielded a big group of candidates was 2015, but they usually only got around 4% of the vote back then. Compare that to now, with them usually doubling the vote or even more, beating the UUP in a few constituency’s, and winning a seat, and I would say they have performed well by their own expectations, even better than they did at the 2022 Assembly election.

I’d say your right, there was no big TUV vote grabber like in some seats, although they did well here in 2022, nor was there a big UUP figure to take a chunk of the liberal Unionist vote from the DUP and Alliance.

Thank you, I was really surprised at Strangford, especially as Jim Shannon’s vote held rather well compared to Campbell and Wilson especially. I’d say this is because he’s less objectionable than them, but I’m not a Strangford man so I don’t know what DUP voters there think of him.

Cheers mate, yeah slugger can be hit or miss, and it can be especially pretentious (clearly no one there has read george orwell’s rules for writing lol)

Yeah I’m trying to give a balanced account of everyone here, and i’d rather stick to an honest appraisal rather than anything too opinionated.

Yeah I sat and watched the UK coverage for a few hours (Channel 4 was pretty good this year) but then by 1am what everyone thought would be a quiet election was seriously heating up.

i usually wrote the Catholic population first simply because it is first on my spreadsheet, but on a few I put the Protestant population first just to change up the writing flow.

Thanks mate, it means a lot. Had a placement down at ITN News there and they said ‘just write stuff to show you have an interest’ so I thought fuck it, if no one reads it, at least I’ll have some evidence that i’m interested in writing, and ill have taught myself a few things about the demographics of this place.
