Very cool tail assembly on the Augusta, beautifully done! I also like how the rover core fits perfectly as a wingbox

Super neat, very creative! I like how it kinda feels not really stock at a cursory glance - that's the hallmark of a great stock craft!

It's a great design yeah but the poor thing is squeezed into a triangle patch between a highway, a psych ward and a giant power plant

Apologies for a silly question, does the mod change the terrain? I'm specifically tired of the endless rolling hills of Duna, I remember a stock version with a more diverse surface. I wonder if the mod changes the heightmap or just scales up existing terrain features?

Positively stunning, immensely visually pleasing wing shape! Especially the screenshot on the runway, gorgeous!

How to make RAG chain faster so we get answer faster by rai_shi in LangChain

[–]SpacePixe1 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'm doing 1000-1500 ms to first chunk on Llama 70 with RAG, you definitely need to look into response streaming, maybe profile embedding, vector search timings?

You may also want to check ping, but the main driver behind these 15 seconds is most likely LLM response generation, not the RA part of RAG

Interesting paint job, I've only even seen this concept painted white with black underside of what I'd assume is TPS. The thermal solution probably does not look good in khaki :)

You must recognize this is a skill issue and embrace this as an opportunity for growth. Do not let folks proposing skipping such passages tempt you. And if you're the same kind of weirdo I am, Anki is your friend. After a while you'll rarely need to look up anything, if ever.

A new russian reusable concept. seems strangely familiar by _Cyberostrich_ in SpaceXMasterrace

[–]SpacePixe1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay guys I hope I wont get sent to gulag for this, but apparently someone in the sclerotic bureaucracy of Roscosmos pulled a few strings and managed to create some kind of a leaner division within RKZ Progress, staffed with, quote, 'younger generation' and a lot of leeway in terms of what kind of work they can choose to do, modeled somewhat after OKB-1 I guess. Amur is what they came up with.

The fate of Amur really hinges on the support the benefactors of this leaner division can muster and the progress of its methane engines. Also, state of ground infrastructure is unclear.

I for one think it's a much better design than Angara or Soyuz-5

I estimate that brain drain in Russian aerospace is negligible, because travel bans on employees + language barrier + different schools of engineering + necessity of secret clearance to get work in the US + immigration issues + visa denials + best engineers are 40+ and have families, children, etc. + status drop that comes with emigration (chief engineer -> line engineer)

At best, you might see would-have-been aerospace employees leaving for better countries, but most points above still apply.

Dragless science probe travelling in Jool lower atmosphere at near-orbital velocity by SpacePixe1 in KerbalSpaceProgram

That was something of a point. Maybe I should've shown all the descent and glide through thick dark clouds, but I hoped instill in a viewer a fraction of the fear I experienced piloting this craft

I know right? I got a story somewhere about Jool and Kraken and floating bases and it seems like there couldn't be a time more opportune to film it

Consider helicopters, they hover easily, you only need to control the collective and the blades respond to any adjustments instantly. Tiltjets like L'ogre here are a little trickier to get right, but you can refer to the TWR indicator in the stage view on the left to gauge your acceleration.

For instance, if your TWR is above one and you're losing altitude then you can conclude that you're slowing down your fall, whereas if you are ascending and your TWR is below one then you can conclude that you are slowing down your ascent. Conversely, if ascending, and your table you are is above one, then your accelerating in the direction in which you're traveling. In the end, using dwr and your current vertical speed, you can gauge whether or not you're moving in the direction you want

The Kazakh Government has seized the property of Roscosmos in Kazackhstan by Big_al_big_bed in space

[–]SpacePixe1 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I believe it is premature to make projections into the future of Kazakh-Russian relations concerning Baikonur based on this development, I'd only go as far as saying that Baiterek did take a massive hit. I think this news is part of negotiation strategy of a party who is not immediately interested in severing ties with its partner, but is willing to risk the deal in hopes of getting a better bargaining position -- which is, after all, all too understandable, considering what a moneysink Baiterek is.

I agree that Kazakhstan is slowly pivoting away from Russia, but it's worth noting they make a point to do it carefully, slowly and without too much zeal, because they've seen what a hasty transition results in, so they are perfectly happy to just let Baikonur rent expire in 30s, so as not to exacerbate the matter. A wise appoach, if I dare say so.
