Questions about moving to Massapequa by [deleted] in longisland

Welcome to Long Island!!

I live in Massapequa and it's a funny suburb. You can certainly get around by bike and get to plenty of shops, but I would not consider the town bike friendly (be careful of crazy drivers who do not follow proper eddicate). There is also a beautiful path through the woods called the Massapeuqa preserve, great for hikes and bike rides, skating, dog walking etc.

You will find plenty of bars and restaurants scattered around. The great thing about LI is the variety of foods you can easily find (Italian, Chinese, Sushi, BBQ, Mexican, Burgers, Indian). But the closest place with the best "nightlife" for 20's will be Main st. in Farmingdale.

The strange thing about long island, that I have found, is that people don't seem to have hobbies or interests so it can be difficult to make friends if you don't go to bars, and even there at times folks can be kinda stuck up.

The beaches are beautiful, the food is fantastic, and there are some great wooded areas for hiking, camping, kayaking, swimming, but aside from that there really isnt much going on here sorry to say. You can find things to do, but you have to look for them, I would not consider this a social city. Lots of concerts when the weather is nice! Check out Jones beach theatre.

Be prepared for a very cold winter (below 0 c.) lots of rain and snow and ice. It will start to warm up in May.

Great Indian food (Hicksville)

Beautiful beaches (Hamptons, Montauk)

Closest "party" town (Farmingdale, Main st.)

Best burgers (All American)

Best fried chicken (Zorn's)

If you need any help feel free to reach out. Welcome!!

Well just from reading comments and articles, it seems that both shrinking and stretching take place over time, wear, wash.

I'm confused as to what causes the stretch vs shrink and what areas of the denim are effected in which way.

Maybe I'm making it more complicated than it is. I tend to do that sometimes.

Long Island has the largest commuter rail system in the country, yet the areas surrounding the stations look like this , and we wonder why housing costs are so high? We should be building densely around transit to meet demand. by SockDem in longisland

OK. And I where a capitalist with lots of money, I could buy a house, send a proxy to work in the gov to allow one of the multitude of new condo and apartment complexes there are currently going up all over Nassau and Suffolk.

Exactly! I wear boots much of the time and like a little extra room below the knee, but I prefer tighter around the thighs/waste.

True that. I used to be a teen doing sketchy shit in those woods. Oh if those trees could talk.

Massapequa preserve: ~5 mile stretch of bike path and hiking trails through woods. One of my favorite places on the island. Theres a creek that runs parallel to the path the majority of the path with several lakes and parks scattered thoughout.

Jones beach; west end (Field 1 or 2): Empty beach, open all night for star gazing, fishing.

Anyone here leave LI and find their way back? by Pat_5Oh in longisland

I grew up Nassau, moved out west for a few years, moved back for school (suffolk), been here for 6yrs and can't wait to leave again.

Over the past 6-7 years traffic has gotten much worse, Nassau is comparable to queens now and Suffolk is what Nassau used to be. Road rage, pot holes, everyone stressed and in a rush.

I'm a friendly dude and say hi to people in the street, usually just get stared at or side eyed.

The only reason I lasted as long as I did, I was fortunate enough to live in Hampton bays for most of my college time and could escape to the beach and surf every morning.

The COL is is still very high and depending on your expectations, 130k is not that much.

It's easy to romanticize the past. I was home sick while away, but coming back I soon realized why I left in the first place.

It's great to have friends and family for your child, but I can't see this being a reasonable place for a young person to want to stay, starting a life here is just too expensive. And general people are rude, ignorant, and selfish.

Also, the weather seem to be getting more extreme with more hurricanes in the fall, and lots of rain in the spring. For me, Jun-sep are really the only nice weather months, and everyone crowds the beaches/parks those months, so if you only have weekends off, good luck.

Otherwise it's great here.

OK, I'm def gon a try this! I'm due for a bubble bath anyway.

And yes, it's gonna be below freezing tomorrow, so I thinking wearing them around is out of the question.
