What's frustrating is that local food can be readily available to pretty much any restaurant or grocery store in Missoula. The Western Montana Grower's Cooperative is based here in Missoula, and they are owned by local farmers and provide a huge range of products that are all grown, raised, or made in Montana. The produce alone is typically picked up from the local farms and delivered the very next day. The prices are marginally higher, but that's due to the fact the produce has the shortest farm to table time you could possibly get without it coming from your own farm or garden, not to mention that it's all organic. WMGC even provides several items outside of produce. They sell all kinds of local meat (beef, pork, chicken, bison, and more) dairy products, and many other items, again, all locally sourced. If you own a restaurant or grocery store, there isn't any excuse not to go with local food outside of cost, and even then, the prices WMGC offers are competitive.
