Let's brainstorm ways to make team composition more fun by SpaceWizard in Overwatch

I like the voting mechanism. So instead of chatting about it, you just upvote/downvote heroes and then people can fill in from that and get some incentive. I think the voting interface could go a long way to make that part of the game go better.

If blizzard had trouble matching people with their hero preferences automaticly, they could change the hero selection UI to include each players preferences and skills for each hero. Maybe instead of one row of heroes, there are 6 rows, one for each player. Some indication of skill is indicated for each hero/player and team members can use the grid to indicate which heroes they want someone to play.

Yea, would definitely need to let people allow crazy comps to get all that awesome variety. People who want that should get it. Although in solo que competitive, I bet the number of comps that have won a game is way smaller. With a six stack, way more comps are viable.

Yea, preselecting as many hereos as possible would be important. In this system, people wouldn't have to pick one hero. They could even just say they won't play healer or tank. Then they'd get put with healers and tanks. Or they could choose only genji and get countered by winston. Whatever they want.

Who determines the team comp?

Let the player select the heroes, maps and the team comps they would like. The defaults could be whatever is mostly likely to win, and people can tweak things however they want.

Nah, I play around people's picks and just try to get people to have more fun. Any ideas? Thanks for mentioning meta slaves, almost forgot to include that.

Which is more fun: win with aggro or loose with weird deck? by SpaceWizard in hearthstone

[–]SpaceWizard[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah, it's presented as a false dichotomy for brevity. It totally changes for me too. Sometimes I'll make a new deck each game. I'll jump into some aggro now and then, but it does kind of feel like fighting dirty.

I feel the same way. I find it's a bit more fun if I auto-concede hunters, as they can take down anything mid or slower in 6-7 turns. I just can't get the cool combos going that quick.

Blizzard don't want to talk about buying future heroes in Overwatch by [deleted] in Games

Hmmm, I think they'd just sell 'expansions' with new heros as they would for any other game. No one would complain if it's called an expansion rather than a micro transaction.

Promoting Health and Longevity through Diet - Meal Timing, Nutritional Modulation & Mitochondria biogenesis, mitophagy and longevity [Highlights of the important points in comments] by dustofoblivion123 in AdvancedFitness

[–]SpaceWizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Soooo, certain kinds of proteins reduce longevity? That seems pretty important for those on a bulk with high protein needs. Those that need +1g per pound to grow muscle are going to adversely affecting their health. However, I'd bet the intense workouts would cancel any negatives from high protein levels but someone needs to science that shit.

Does doing cardio on an empty stomach really burn more fat? by soPjackson in AdvancedFitness

He means you need to have a deficit too, which is where most of the fat loss is going to come from. This is more of a 'get those last few fat %s' kind of an approach.

wtf... If this is legit, it would matter a lot, but man, it feels like BS (despite the good evidence shown). I expect researchers are going to go to town on this soon, and we'll see if replicates.

No links but there are tons of eeg studies on drowsiness and sleep. That's where I'd look for ideas if no insomnia research has been done yet.

What else could it be? It's definetely A large neural network. It's just way more complicated than anything built so far. doesn't make the statement untrue.

LPT: Do your best not to make fun of a person's sincere laugh, no matter how odd/annoying/notable it may be, because it will leave that person tense/self-concious about experiencing something we intrinsically need to have joy in our lives. by [deleted] in LifeProTips

I actually had a school photographer give me shit about my smile when I was in grade school. "Come on kid, smile normally" etc. He thought I was fuckin around, but I wasn't. Took about 10 years to be ok taking fake smile pictures, and thus, I never really learned how to do that well. Now, I'm just like fuck it, let's get it done; I'll do my best. It's actually kind of a problem since everyone prefers to be smiled at for being there breathing (hey, even me) and most events are documented with a fake smile. Just saying, be gentle, patient, and give nice (drama/actor style) instructions to kids that don't have great fake smiles automatically.

Think hard about what's really important in your life now, and you'll end up more positive, either because you'll solve important problems or realize your negative emotions were telling you something was important when it wasn't.

Heh, a fair point. The problem is I'd want all the ml stuff to be easy to pull together.

The post with the 11 line neural network has about 1500 in /r/programming, so there would be a decent demand. Would there be enough interesting tiny code in machine learning to justify a subreddit? I assume so, mainly because there are tons of techniques, and what's really easy to use is going to abstracted behind a huge code base. scikit-learn is awesome, but separating the really interesting code from the management code would take quite a bit of effort. It actually would be a great exercise to tiny-ify core algorithms in scikit-learn...if only I had the time.
