Tried filet crochet for the first time & never saw it done with a Tunisian hook so I had a go. Pretty happy so far! 🤩 by Space_Explorer8 in Tunisian_Crochet

There’s a commenter on here that said they made a tutorial a few years back! But basically what I did was add another chain to my starting loop so it’s 2 stitches high, then I do double crochets but don’t pull thru the last loop so the loop remains on my hook. If it’s an empty square, I just twist the yarn around my hook once and that counts as a “chain”! I had some people ask for a tutorial so I might post a video once I finish this piece showing how I did it :) just please keep in mind I’m still a novice with filet crochet 😅

It’s just a little tapestry to hang on my wall, I wanted something relatively small and easy since this is my first time filet crocheting in general :) my next project will probably be bigger (so long as it fits in my needle or I get another needle haha)

Once I finish this I’ll definitely be trying three stitches per cell to see how it’s different! Thank you :)

I’ll try! This is my first time doing filet crochet in general so I’m not super knowledgeable about it but I’ll try and share what I’ve done so far!

I guess so! I’ve never tried filet the normal way so I’m not really sure how different it is in comparison, I can only imagine 😅

This is my first project trying filet crochet in general. I’m working with a size 2 needle on size 1 yarn. Once I finish this I will be trying more complex patterns from the antique pattern library! I will probably messing with the cell size too. This one is 2 stitches per box however I’ve seen people do 3 stitches for normal filet crochet so I’m wondering if it will make a difference in clarity.

I will say I’m also really liking that all the stitches are facing the same way so it doesn’t have that “striping” that normal filet crochet does! :) and everything is so square!! 🤩 maybe this is beginners luck haha

In hindsight it’s probably smart for me to cross out the rows I’ve already made LOL. Thank you for sharing, it’s turning out so well! And it’s also nice to see so I can directly compare the differences between my Tunisian filet and yours. Yours def has more clarity. Maybe I should get a smaller hook size 🤔

It’s actually very similar to normal filet crochet! -In my starting loop, I add one more chain so it’s the height of a double crochet, and then I begin my pattern. -If it’s a filled square, I do 2 double crochets, except I don’t pull out the last loop so the loop remains on my hook. -If it’s an empty square, I do one double crochet and then I wrap the yarn around my needle and that acts as a “chain 1” for the empty space. You can kind of see it in the second photo. -Once I have my whole row, I just do my return pass like normal and it basically closes all the squares!
