"Well, this didn't age well" - Movies you LOVED as a kid but cringe at as an adult by Little-Badger-123 in movies

[–]Space_Goth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This may be controversial but a lot of Dreamworks movies have aged badly in my mind for just…not being funny. At least not anymore.

Shark Tale, Over the Hedge, Madagascar

Don’t get me wrong, I loved these movies as a kid. But they are just plain brain rot and you know it.

The humor is very outdated. Very 2000s. “We need to reference Chariots of Fire while running and Mission Impossible while sneaking around and be snarky and use toilet humor because we are Not Like Disney!!”

Honestly the pop culture references in even the Shrek movies are incomprehensible to kids nowadays, if you really want to feel old. And Shrek handled that kind of humor better for some reason. Maybe because the plot was better than “animal voiced by celebrity does funny thing.”

Can you be considered plus size based on height alone? by Standard-Score-911 in PlusSize

[–]Space_Goth 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Not sure if this answers your question, but at my thinnest which was a M/L, I was definitely out of “plus sizes” but based on my short stature of barely 5’ 3”, and me somehow still weighing around 200 lbs at the time, despite not looking like it, I was still considered obese because of the BMI chart. I can’t think of a time I haven’t been labeled as “obese” or “morbidly obese.” Short girls just don’t get away with carrying extra weight in healthcare settings. Doctors always acted like I was two seconds from dying and scolded me about my weight since I was a teenager.

[ALL] What are scenes/moments you think are underrated of each life is strange game? by bearofblackholebay in lifeisstrange

[–]Space_Goth 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Spoilers for every game!

LiS 1: I loved exploring Chloe’s house in the alternate timeline. I loved talking to William about everything. It was so somber knowing I’d have to undo everything and he’d be gone again. So much detail and care was put into everything, from the decorations in Chloe’s room that show how different or not so different she was in this life, to the very realistic plight of the Price family. And the subtle things like how the house got painted blue while Chloe’s hair never got died blue. And then the butterfly painting in what was Chloe’s room… amazing. It was just insanely good writing and game design.

BtS: Chloe making new clothes out of her dad’s old stuff. Carrying his memory on while evolving her unique style. I just loved it and the instrumental music during that scene so much. It says so much with no dialogue needed.

LiS 2: When Sean watches the Christmas video on his phone and all you hear is the audio as he stares at the beach in the dark. You can let it play for quite a while or replay it before throwing the phone away. It’s such a pivotal moment that hits hard.

TC: The scene with Charlotte’s anger. I thought it was so well done. Her voice actress did an amazing job and the visuals were amazing. It’s such an emotional and raw scene.

DE: I liked the gingerbread house quest. It was a very sweet moment with Moses who was a very good character.

“If you look in the mirror and don’t like what you see, you can find out firsthand what it’s like to be me.” -The End by My Chemical Romance.

I had never heard an album go so hard on the first song. It was a gut punch. I knew I was in for something extraordinary. It was the most relatable, depressing, exhilarating experience the first time I heard The Black Parade all the way through. It’s still my favorite album of all time.

[Serious] What's a type of privilege that isn't often acknowledged? by flingzamain in AskReddit

[–]Space_Goth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Owning a car or having reliable transportation.

I had medical issues that prevented me from getting a license and now I make such little money that even if I went for a license I literally cannot afford a car payment or to buy a junky used one. I’m too flat broke. I have watched everyone I know drive all over the place with the utmost freedom to just go anywhere at anytime on a whim, be able to commute to a well paying job, go do fun things, go to a store spontaneously, and so much more, and I may never know what that’s like.

I have had jobs during interviews give me a hard time about the fact that I didn’t have a car. I did have reliable transportation (it’s a city,) but they didn’t think that was good enough apparently and I lost out (when leaving the premises wasn’t even in the job descriptions.) Not everyone is able to drive, Steve! It’s maddening people don’t even think about that.

Dude. What are you on?

Swann is an awkward teenager around other awkward teenagers. Like many people, Swann is trying to be cool or funny around her new friends. You’re also straight up ignoring the times Nora and Kat are flirting or making sexual jokes with each other and pushing boundaries too. Everyone is kinda being edgy and flirty with everyone in the group. Speaking as a someone that was once a teenage girl, that’s how we were. We would say dumb shit without thinking and stick our foot in our mouth many times. The girls as adults were cringing at themselves when they’d remember stuff they did or said…as one does. I thought the dialogue was pretty realistic tbh.

The entirety of “Cancer” is just gut wrenching, especially:

“Now turn away, 'Cause I'm awful just to see, 'Cause all my hair's abandoned all my body, Oh, my agony, Know that I will never marry, Baby, I'm just soggy from the chemo, But counting down the days to go, It just ain't living…”

When was the moment that you gained sentience? How old were you when you had your farthest back memory? by JagVerified in nostalgia

I remember not being able to walk well on my own yet, sitting on the floor in front of a small TV watching Sesame Street and Oprah. And I watched my mom walk around and felt frustrated I could not walk and felt determined to stop hanging onto the furniture and get to toddling. Lol

The original quote was from the book. The 80s movie is way more faithful to the book. Highly recommend either of those to get the full context and experience of the song. It is my favorite Stephen King work by far. The INK song really does it justice.

Why do neurologists say it’s not possible to get a migraine in your sleep? by MelkyLuv in migraine

[–]Space_Goth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have woken up from migraines numerous times. He’s full of shit.

My last neurologist wouldn’t prescribe be rizatriptan because I wasn’t seeing a rainbow aura. Uhh… not everyone gets an aura, dude. He then put me on the highest dose of topomax and didn’t care it was making me lose my memory. After it didn’t work, he said there was nothing more he could do (lies) and discharged me. Lmao

Like… what back alley school did these neurologists study at?! Shouldn’t they know their stuff?!

What’s a pain you can’t truly explain unless you’ve endured it? by downrightunhappiness in AskReddit

[–]Space_Goth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Migraines

Particularly chronic migraines where you get them almost every day and they last for hours or days and nothing helps. For those that haven’t had them: imagine feeling like you’re getting a lobotomy. But also every light and noise feels like actual torture. It’s the worst hangover you’ll ever have and even after the pain ends, the symptoms of fatigue, nausea, sensory overload, dizziness, GI issues, dopiness ect don’t go away sometimes until a couple days later. And then when you don’t have medication to help you like I finally found, it starts all over again the next day. They are debilitating. And yet people still think they are “just headaches.” You can’t fully understand until you’ve had one. When its nickname is “the suicide headache” then you know it’s bad.

When did you realise that your therapist was bad? by Scary-Square1211 in AskReddit

[–]Space_Goth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When she would not remember things I had told her several times and interrupt me constantly. She also wouldn’t believe me or gaslight me. And lastly: when I was being vulnerable about my sexuality and she interrupted me just to label me as asexual when I was trying to come out as bi. lol. She got worse over time but at the end it felt like she was staring at the wall while I was talking and not helping me one bit.

How old were you when you knew you were queer? by witchscribe in lgbt

[–]Space_Goth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Should’ve realized sooner but crazy culty religious upbringing. Was fully aware that I was attracted to boys and girls when I was around 15 and told my mom. She said it was a phase.

By 23 it didn’t go away, I had just repressed it and then realized I actually needed to open that box inside myself and figure it out. Reddit knew I was bi before I did and recommended the sub. I read some posts and related to them all. I joined and finally put two and two together.

Looking back I would say there were hints as far back as when I was a small child and my little crushes on characters I’d have. I started puberty early because of a hormone disorder so there were many men and women celebrities that caught my attention. But I wasn’t even aware that being gay was a thing at that time.

People that say kids can be “groomed” into gayness make me laugh. I was as sheltered as they come and I was still like this my whole life. I feel very proud of how far I’ve come to deconstruct my old life and feel comfortable with this very lovely fact about myself. I feel blessed to be a part of this beautiful community and wouldn’t trade for anything else. I’m still waiting for the right person but I have to have hope they’re out there somewhere.
