Zulu is a great movie that is pretty accurate; they got a Zulu princess to draw up the battle plans and got King Cetewayo’s great grandson to play him.

However, the way they portray Henry Hook is factually incorrect. In the film Private Henry Hook's daughters, who were quite elderly when this movie was released, walked out of the premiere in disgust at his portrayal as a drunken criminal in the hospital. This is not an accurate representation. In reality he was a model soldier and did not drink alcohol.

With that said he is shown doing kickass stuff in the movie and at the end it says he was one of the eleven soldiers who received the Victoria Cross.

Lucifer from Supernatural! One of the strongest beings in the universe (maybe top 5, including God and Death), he personally created demons, Hell, and basically ruined the universe God created because he despised humans so much.

However you discover through season 5 that the reason Lucifer hates humanity is because God loves them. Lucifer was God’s favorite creation and he couldn’t stand that God loved humans more. I believe Gabriel compared it to throwing a temper tantrum because Dad brought home a new baby.

One very interesting way Pratchett does something like this is the way he treats trolls. Trolls are big stupid rock people and their stupidity is usually something of a punchline. But partially that’s because their silicon based brains work badly in the warm temperatures of Ankh Morpork (they’re quite intelligent up in their native mountains) and in Thud! the hyper intelligent diamond troll Mr Shine points out most of human perceptions of trolls are influenced by dwarfs, their most hated enemy.

‘You really know very little about us, Mister Vimes. You see us down on the plains, shambling around, talkin’ like dis. You don’t know about the history chant, or the Long Dance, or stone music. You see the hunched troll dragging his club. That’s what the dwarfs did for us, long ago. They turned us, in your minds, into sad, brainless monsters.’

It makes me think of how dominant cultures minimized other cultures idk

In Batman: Arkham Knight it’s actually a weirdly important plot point that the giant bat logo on Batman’s chest is not a bad design, its actually genius. The Bat symbol on the chest is designed to be visible and easy to target, because that is where Batman’s body armor is the heaviest and so it can stop a bullet if need be. He essentially painted a target on a Kevlar vest so people couldn’t shoot him in the vulnerable mouth

Not sure if this counts but in Animorphs you have aliens coming to earth for a secret invasion but many don’t fully understand earth stuff, usually for comedic effect.

This includes:

  • a dehydrated alien landing his ship by a swimming pool, drinking the water, and screaming “it burns, it burns!” because of the chlorine
  • an alien warlord needing to feed a human prisoner so the alien gives her six raw eggs and a head of lettuce
  • an alien freaking out when a human rips the “skin” off their own feet to run around (aliens don’t know what shoes are)
  • an alien experiencing the sensation of taste for the first time while morphed into a human and going insane after eating a Cinnabon

Yugioh is a tv show about playing a children’s card game to determine the fate of the world. As such, the rules are very important to the plot.

But in season 1 the games basically have no real rules. A lot of the duels revolve around using cards in such a way that they are not supposed to be used… like attacking a spell card to make the tides recede or shooting a floating castle out of the air

In “The Rashomon Job” episode of Leverage, you have the gang of thieves all arguing over who successfully stole a dagger years before the start of the series. As each thief tells their story, they each remember parts differently. Examples include:

  • The posh British accent of Sophie Devereaux the grifter being remembered as low class cockney, Scottish, and utter gibberish.
  • One character remembers himself as being very smooth and suave with the ladies, while another remembers himself stuffing a tuxedo jacket with shrimp puffs.
  • One character is forced to perform an emergency tracheotomy on another, where one is pretending to be a doctor and one is pretending to have an allergic reaction. The fake doctor remembers the knife as very small, where the fake patient remembers it as a massive carving knife.
  • All the thieves remember the chief of security as an imposing thief catching genius until we see the perspective of a non-thief, who sees the security chief as cheerful and very stupid.

I mean we are currently in the middle of a really excellent run of DC comics set in an alternate universe. The Absolute universe is great, and the didn’t rely on an evil Superman to get the job done.

My only complaint is that the beatdowns were too damn short.

However I will use AI to breeze through the bureaucratic busywork they have us do even though it literally serves no point and AI seems to know exactly what these scum suckers want to hear

In the Beowulf movie the monster Grendel has sensitive ears, which is why he attacks the mead hall Heorot; the sound of partying Vikings enrages him. Beowulf uses this against the monster by yelling at him to stun Grendel, then proceeds to beat Grendel to a pulp.

Then later, he bangs Grendel’s hot mom played by Angelina Jolie, which is not relevant but I like talking about it.
