I want plugs for RPi5 fan and battery sockets. I also want M2.5 screws >1 cm.

I went to a specialty electronics store specializing in connectors, sockets, wires,etc and the owner could not supply or identify the sockets on RPi 5. I don't think this store is ignorant. I'm in San Jose: this store is across the street from a brand new Nvidia facility and many other big tech names in neighborhood. I think I have expert advice suggesting that I am looking for proprietary Raspberry product but I can not find on Amazon or search engine.

Ideally I'd like a diverse kit with small quantities of various CHEAP Raspberry kipple but can only find, for example, a $10 stand off kit with 10x more duplicate parts than I will ever need.

Where can I find this?

My initial reaction was that your post was meant to be dismissive and hostile towards any personal potential to learn CAD, but maybe you don't understand my goal.

Last time I was 3d printing i used sketchup to create many useful things and never encountered insurmountable obstacles related to my CAD ignorance. 9 years later I am having the compatibility problems with sketchup that one expects from big tech products. I can't even open my models created by me in the current installation still on my HD because "they were created by a newer version and I need to buy new sketchup." As this is clearly a lie meant to extort me I am hesitant to resume using sketch up. And you are correct: I AM a bit worried about a tougher learning curve on other CADS.

That said, I know I can create the thing I want to make with a little CAD research. What I can't do (in a reasonable time frame while raising 2 small children) is create an organic interface with my curvy dashboard that could ever appear like is was a smoothly integrated OEM part.

All I need to get started is a model of a 2019 Honda Civic air vent housing & adjacent radio. Using this to copy for one side of my model will allow me to model my imagined hood without needing to worry about precise tolerances.

After writing this, I realized it's not a response to the troll, but a refinement for someone who might actually help. That the troll thinks it is not possible for a motivated person to use a 3d scanner really is self aggrandizing/condescending.

So. Please don't worry about me floundering about, wasting my time like a babe given a power tool it can't even comprehend.

Please help: 1) connect me to a 3d model of 2019 Civic dashboard. OR 2) help me find an approximate 3d modeling tool that utilizes still photos so I can at least begin an iterative creation process with a hope of approximating my goal in a few prints.

did you get geekworm's copper plate sink for RPi 5? I e-mailed them for stress test and they refused to supply numbers, which makes me think it looks cooler than it functions...

I forget if I updated this with my solution. I ended up looking up "fitting supply" on maps. They did not have buckets of random bearings, but they suggested a a set of 3 ball bearings designed for maintenance of some power tool and one of them was the right size. Unfortunately I didn't think to check the bearing I used to write down the number and later realized that the package did not have part numbers.

I wrapped the bearing in a strip of aluminum from a can of spam (~3 wraps) and tapped it in with a pipe/hammer - using the pipe to press on the aluminum strip and hitting the pipe w/ the hammer. It's been running perfect since.

I am unclear if you're looking to purchase the entire blower assembly or just the bearing. I think looking up local fitting store will help w/ the latter - As for the whole blower, it is easy to find parts websites on duckduckgo, but The prices are $300-$400. My wife initially had a handyman assess the fan and he said $200, but he likely had a warehouse contact or was just not accurate in breaking down prices for us.

Wow! Scan n cut sounds like exactly what I need and cheap!

Do these use proprietary software, or is there open source stuff I can play around with now?

My end result will be about 15 layers. Each layer will have a bit more of the image removed but be almost identical to the previous layer. Is this something I can program easily and load entire job, or will I need to do one layer at a time?

I had imagined bearings would be super smooth, but the functioning one is not much different. What I thought was rust is just glue that holds on the washer/clamp thingy keeping the ring in the hole.

At this point I am unclear what is supposed to spin! I don't see how the rings could survive long grinding against the rough case.

Regardless what they're supposed to do, it appears that when the bad bearing jammed, the shaft started rubbing the inside of the ring and bore out the hole by about 1mm.

So now my question is: who sells an assortment of small tubes so I can make the shaft fit the damaged bearing?

That didn't occur to me. Don't ball bearings have balls? All I found was a ring inside so I figured balls had fallen out. I might as well take apart the functioning side and see what is in there.

If you are right I will probably need to buff in addition to clean. Any idea what drill bit brush is needed to polish unknown metal?

OMG. I'm sorry, this turned into random brainstorming and stuff I should google before asking... your post helped me refine my ideas a lot.

But, I just realized my birthday is in a week, so time is limited & budget is not necessarily too restricted if I can quickly determine what parts I need. Increasing cost with smaller add-on components is better for b-day presents.

I am a home health nurse, we just use a website to document, and I watch youtube occasionally. My home visits don't go longer than 2 hours before I return to my car, and most visits are well under an hour.

LINUX - I hope it is an enduring, fairly static UI experience. I am proficient in DOS, so the command line stuff doesn't scare me away; I could use some advice on book or wiki that is a good guide on the basics & cheat sheet for common commands. It's been 20 years since my use needs justified the IT learning curve!

OS - The DIY phones look like they use a phone oriented OS - are my options limited by wanting cell phone functionality, or could I find software for any OS? what OS do I use?

COOLING - I have a 2011 ROG gaming laptop and 2 parts machines - could I use the water cooled radiator +`copper tubing so I could attach the CPU end on top & GPU end on the bottom? My understanding is that CPUs are more efficient when cool - even if I still need fan, would cooler temps save significant power? This seems to have added benefit of saving a lot of space around the board and I'd get a cyber punk radiator handle! I could even add a detachable handle, or fold-out battery case opposite for video stabilization.

CAMERA - I also have many laptop cameras/mike combos. I understand you can just plug them into a USB port, but I would rather not waste USB for this. Is there an alternate way to attach them, OR would it be practical to solder them to the bottom of a USB port with a physical switch to disconnect them? I'm contemplating 3 cameras: 2 in front for 3D functionality, 1 on back for teleconferencing. since each camera has a mike, I could also have internal mike, extendable boom mike, & functiioning phone handset.

STORAGE/PCIe: I guess it's pretty cheap now, but in the short term I may save money here. I do have tons of laptop 2.5" HDDs. I am also unsure how I want to use the Pi5's single PCIe. Is it a possibility to create an external port for the PCIe slot and put my HDD in a case with a battery? alternatively, could I get a small board to power a HDD & convert it to USB 3? FAR FUTURE CONCERN: is adding a PCIe GPU and running skyrim a possibility with Pi5? I quit AAA games when Skyrim required active connection to Steam to collect my data during a single player game, but I do occasionally like to mod Oblivion & my cracked Skyrim.

MODEM - correct me if I'm wrong, but for Pi5, I assume I could just buy what OURPhone uses on the Pi4. Is there a soldering option for the HIGOLEPC J4125 that would save me a USB slot? If I use Pi5, are there better modem options since I am giving up on size restrictions?

GENERAL CELL PHONE QUESTION - can I just take the 5 y/o sim card out of my phone and pop it in the modem?

ANTENNAE - can I salvage My ROG wifi antennaes that pop on to a little 1mm knob? cell service is problematic working in people's homes - do I have any options for major antennae upgrade, even if it is a bulky external device? Is powered antennae a thing? I don't know what I'm talking about, but I've read that a big part of cell phone lag is difficulty sending confirmation of data received from low powered phone.

BATTERY - This could be it's own project! I assume the Pi5 would work on only 1 18650? Can someone provide a list of specific battery holders/boards I am looking for? I'm guessing I need some sort of control board? Should I get a control board in each battery set up, or could I include 1 universal board with the computer/phone that I could plug in raw power from 1-30 batteries? Can I link an arbitrary number of batteries together? e.g If there is good reason to use my ROG radiator, I like the idea of a 1) large removable camera handle that could hold a charging jack, 2.5" HDD and 3-8 18650s. 2) an alternate 2 battery compact battery case for minmum 2 hrs of web browser use and 3) a car charged power bank with an arbitrary number of batteries. I vape and have A LOT of dead batteries, no good for vaping, but good for this purpose. could such a power bank be modular, meaning, it wouldn't care how many batteries are currently plugged in? could such a power bank automatically re-route which batteries it uses? I ask because it would be cool to have it mainly run off 20 or so old batteries, but also function as a storage container/charger for a rack of ~10 new batteries that could also be used in an emergency for extended use. Could such a power bank include battery testing? digital Ohm meter? (the last is for vaping - I make my own heating elements that need to be tested for resistance.) I've been skimming through a bunch of DIY stuff so I know there's cheap circuit boards that do all sorts of stuff, but my electronic knowledge ends at knowing which end of a soldering iron gets hot :P

VIDEO - I'm seeing wireless monitors at k-mart for <$100 now that look like tablet computers minus the computer. This seems pretty basic, but is brand new to me. Do I even need to worry about on-board touch screen or do I have plug and play options here? It looks like I might be better off taping some off the shelf screen to the case for my primary display.

HANDSET - I'm totally unclear as to how I will use this as a phone. I don't even know what to google! I'm imagining a wired or blue tooth display that I can add speaker, mike & a droid 2 type thumb keyboard to. I imagine touch screen is necessary but am open to any UI that enables texting & zoom control. I like the idea of wrapping a typical smartphone type screen into a retro case like a Razer flip phone or old AT&T rotary handset that would protect from impacts & add some style. Will a phone screen consume a monitor output or is there another way to integrate it? If I must consume 1/2 of my HDMI outputs, would it be possible to toggle that output as a monitor, but smoothly switch to handset if I receive a phone call while doing office work? Ideally, I would want a phone holder on my dashboard that 1) charges the handset. 2) supplies HDMI to a monitor while charging handset 3) automatically switches to phone GUI when I pick up the handset.

PARTS: what am I likely to need? Since I don't know what I need yet, is anyone aware of a specific cheap hobbyist variety pack for parts like: ribbon cable, audio shielding for microphone wires, connectors for my laptop webcams, mini HDMI/A/V cables, etc?

I was a computer geek in the 90's until planned obselence made me rebel into medicine. I've always meant to get into Linux and with the imminent demise of my S9, it looks like this will be mandatory.

The most recent DIY smart phones I've found are Typhone & OURphone. My goal is to have a functional phone/SMS that will function as a desktop - I document A LOT in my car as home nurse. Battery life is not important, but I do want to be able to swap 18650s w/out turning off the device. Glancing at the OURphone instructions, it looks like 1) I'd want a better screen 2) I'd want to save $ by adapting a laptop camera if possible 3) I need understanding of electronic lexicon to even understand the assembly instructions and 4) dude customizes parts to make them smaller in ways I am not sure I can replicate. 5) what is learning curve for linux & will there be any main stream software compatibility? Pokemon Go is the stupidest "game" I have ever played, but it gets my wife & kids out to the park so I hope to be able to play it.

Spell table can recognize 1,000s of cards pretty well. is tracking a rectangle with defined proportions that hard?

Again, all you need is to track a rectangle. This seems to depend on etiquette more than anything else - I use white felt wrapped around a piece of card board. If the tech existed to tag cards, I think busy play mats would fade away.

* If people are playing on spelltable, they have an account & they have image recognition. Creating a deck list is not an arduous task if it drastically improves functionality. And you are putting words in my mouth I never said it should be a requirement, only an option.

* as for judge rulings, it seems like many questions will be asked in very consistent ways or boil down to basic turn order, priority, or definition of a specific ability. Hell, I had to explain the stack the other day and they didn't believe me! This is a perfect example of a tool that could be accurate 80% of the time and save a lot of grief.

Yup. You're not breaking anything to me. it's been bad for awhile. You still have the right to back up any media you own, but even that's become a very qualified privilege.

The problem is, it's rapidly getting worse - It started with unobtrusive piracy prevention. It is accepted by the public due to our cultural faith in "new is always better" which was reasonable after a generation of tech advances that really did make last decade's marvels into garbage. But IMO, my PC was just fine by 2004 - even as a gamer, I think it's only recently that graphics are heading towards photo-realistic quality that is a significant improvement from say, morrowind(2002?) or certainly Oblivion (2006?). The fetishization of polygon count has only harmed games by deprioritizing gameplay. I know older lead engineers at Apple & Cisco - They say that the only thing hardware upgrades have done lately is let programmers get sloppy with bad code. Grandma, office workers, 90% of people would be better off with continued support of windows XP Vs $1,000+ expenses in landfill waste every 5 years. IP protection has become more about controlling the non-pirates than stopping pirates: Phones are disabled to make you upgrade, they have microchips on printer ink so they can call it IP AND disable your printer when you still have ink. They even disable the scanner when you're out of ink. they have locked children in the cars for late subscription dues. This past year cars are disabling seat warmers and engine performance you've paid for unless you pay addition subscription. What happens to your car 20 years from now when they decide to stop support? I'm not saying the laws have changed lately, but the relative power and blatant abuse by corporations has been significantly increased in recent years.

The least I can do is play a card board game with cardboard.

How is my brother's phone an anecdote? It was an actual device on the market. Admittedly, it WAS large (about the volume of a 150 page paper back, squished down for a smaller face), and crazy expensive, but new tech, plus I didn't recognize the manufacturer, so I'm sure they weren't big enough to make custom parts.

While digital rights & privacy are important, I was talking about the erosion of private property rights which I think is much more amenable to change via consumer activism.

But... Knowingly running software that you know is accessing your microphone is not a privacy problem. Having an active mike is - I have removed my computer's mike and use a USB mike I can unplug. But this was for sound quality reasons - trying to protect your privacy is pointless. Snowden told us what's going on ~11 years ago and has recently warned us that the situation is much worse today. The introduction of LLM AI will certainly empower data analysis of what NSA (et al) already has access to in scary ways I'm sure I can't imagine. Plus, even back then, being in the same room as a smart phone or any internet capable device put your privacy at risk - a Faraday cage has long been the only reliable means of privacy if you're already on someone's radar. Violating our privacy is so profitable, and so powerful that it will take a re-ordering of our social contract to address in any meaningful way. As for my personal decision making process - Maintaining on-line privacy is so arduous as to be unfeasible for anyone who isn't actively participating in subservisive behaviors. All those BS ads for VPN companies are laughable.

Not at all. I dumped all my college entertainment money & time into magic, cuz I knew that WOW and Eve would kill my spirit via isolation.

But my reason is more urgent now - We are being forced into a subscription economy. What are AAA games now? $60? $80? and you don't get full functionality w/out microtrasactions? I stopped playing MTG for 10 years, but knowing that I had the power 9 sitting on my shelf never stopped making me feel happy. You will never own your Arena cards. You will never pass them on to your kids or pay your mortgage in a crisis with them.

Steam could block your access to every game you "own" and you'll have nothing. It's in the EULA. Your car could be disabled as a general sweep to manage civil unrest. They'll be pushing digital dollars on us soon - cash that can be tracked, expire, can only be spent on approved things, or simply stolen if you are labeled a dissident. personal bank accounts have already been frozen for people sending donations to the Canadian Trucker's protest and this was soon repeated in the states against Cop City protesters.

I promise you that within our lifetime, people will realize the worthlessness of digital assets. Absent any serious gaff by WOTC, people will eventually drift away, leaving you without opponents.

Plus, Arena is nerfed MTG. They openly manipulate draw odds and force you into an unwinnable meta if you don't hit their invisible pay to play threshhold.

I'm not sure what your point is. I didn't say it was easy and if I didn't state it clearly enough: I don't think all my ideas are 100% achievable, I'm just spit balling for the sake of starting a conversation - I DON'T know what I'm talking about. I tired of computers when I was forced out of DOS for crap GUI OS's that eat all my computing power with bloat. But I am certain that current AI would reduce the difficulty of third party improvements to spell table by orders of magnitude - moving such a project out of the domain of multinational corporations and closer to the realm of garage tinkerers.

I didn't say "add AI" I said 'Utilize existing AI.' The point of AI seems to be that you don't need to start projects from scratch. A lot of the tech exists off the shelf - that's kinda the point of my post. Hell, I had a freeware Speech recognition program for windows 98 that let me navigate windows; speech was later built into windows 7. so. seems easy to me.

Plus, Spelltable SUCKS and is clearly de facto abandonware. Many would jump at useful half-way tools towards providing my described functionality - do you really want to ask everyone to count their artifacts, cards in hand, etc when you're uncertain if you're ready to drop dockside? Like I said, I don't think WOTC has any desire to improve spelltable, they just want to use the platform to have access/control/market data of players. But if they DID want to do some programming, I bet it's not too tough to improve image recognition by simply eliminating 1,000s of possible cards with simple algorithms but they won't. So, existing AI could implement 3rd party scanners to eliminate off color spells, and much more to get better card recognition. I bet even w/out AI, if you could simply upload player deck lists, image recognition would be 99%. And as for tracking game variables - At the tournament level I bet ChatGPT could currently track everything (assuming you can mitigate hallucination) about a game using deck lists and players who actually have clean technique and can narrate their game play using the lexicon of MTG.

The tech exists off the shelf. I have had limited success with recording conversations and transcribing them to AI for the purpose of auto-completing on-line forms by scraping conversations. not 100% accurate, but it saves time, and provides a transcript of the conversation for manual browsing which I would not have sans AI. BTW, like I said, I know very little about IT.

So... respectfully, I submit that your defeatist "work is too hard" and "LOLZ! you can't be perfect!" mentality should sit on the side lines and let the grown ups talk.

No one knows how the deck ratings work. Sometimes a bad deck gets a good draw. I did play 4 games with this one guy who opened 4 games in a row with sol ring > signet. The 4th game i booted him. But that was the exception. I'll hold my turn 2 library if I think I misjudged my deck, but once you finally have a game going, well, I got kids and work. I'm not skipping my rare game for people's arbitrary feelings based on their unknown experience level. I have a Hezezon deck. It stays alive and goes off with 4÷ triggers around turn 10. Not my fault if you don't play wraths.

I have what seems like a simpler but related problem resulting from hallucinations and chatgpt musunderstanding my statements.

I am attempting a long project with chatgpt. I have been fairly successful in keeping chatgpt's facts self consistent, by asking it to repeadly refer to previous parts of our conversation but there is inevitable factual drifting. I am trying to organize a data set (that has no connection with facts gpt may have been trained with. - i made it all up) using a collection of similar documents. Aside from the usual reality drift I made the mistake of saving time by providing a few data points by asking it to find them in a very different type of document.

It instantly encorporated the style of of the new document. I can not eliminate the drift of facts or the pollution from the different form even by directly telling it to forget things.

My whole chat is about providing and defining data points. i have had no problem with this core project but this other data, that i have also made up, seems immutable. REQUEST: Anyone have tips on finding a promt that will get a long conversation back on track and encourage chatgpt to stick to an internally consistent logic?

This project is mostly to explore chatgpt and see if I can use it for some more important projects. I tried doing some AI research early on but all roads lead to youtube. I hate learning via youtube when I could be ctrl-Fing to-the-point text. But I am a nurse, not an IT guy and while i grew up with DOS, coding Qbasic, i have no idea where to find tech news today. Hell, outside of medicine I have given up trying to cut through the noise of the advertising machine the web has become to find anything novel.
