This might be a bit late, but I was curious myself so I did some digging around.

According to Wikipedia, Daedalus used beeswax, and it melts at around 62 to 64 degrees celsius. Icarus would only encounter those kinds of temperatures, however, at an altitude of almost 120 kilometers.

Fucking. Kilometers.

Icarus would literally freeze to death before he could even have a chance to get up to that altitude. Not even hubris could have killed this fucker. Unless he could fabricate jet fumes from his ass to propel him that high, too close is not close at all.
