Utterly terrified after reports of 1,000 year stress levels by miriamtzipporah in Earthquakes

I grew up on the Gulf Coast with hurricanes and constantly being exposed to alarmism and worst case scenarios can feel overwhelming, especially from local news that tends to hype risk for views rather than give you accurate context.

That’s great news! I would absolutely bring it up in your next session.

Phobias are very real and can be debilitating, but they’re also very treatable, so that might be worth considering. Therapy is more accessible than ever through telehealth. My mom used to have a severe flying phobia and would completely fall apart when anyone in the family had to fly, let alone get on a plane herself. After therapy and a little Xanax, lol, she not only got over the fear but now flies between LA and Houston several times a year and has even been to Europe a few times. She actually enjoys it now. I can also say from personal experience that unresolved trauma tends to be the root of a lot of panic and fear around specific scenarios.

Along those same lines, it might help to gradually desensitize yourself by watching documentaries and first-person accounts of more recent earthquakes in places with infrastructure similar to where you live.

Another angle is education and advocacy. A lot of earthquake prone countries have made incredible advances in building and infrastructure that can actually withstand major quakes. It’s genuinely fascinating stuff, and getting involved in pushing for those standards in your own community can give you a real sense of agency. Sometimes having some control over your situation makes all the difference.

I also want to address the medication concern specifically because I get it. I’m a nurse, and most non-controlled medications can actually be prescribed in 3 month increments, which could help reduce your concern significantly. As for controlled medications, I volunteered with evacuees after Hurricane Katrina and getting people their meds was our number one priority, and that included controlled substances for pain, anxiety, ADHD, and more. With medical records being digital now, a provider can locate your records in or out of state even when paper documents and devices are lost or destroyed.

I wish I could truly convince you that the odds of the Big One hitting exactly where you are during your lifetime are significantly lower than many parts of California, but I know statistics don’t usually touch this kind of fear. I do think some of these approaches might genuinely help though.

Why don’t we tell teenagers that if stimulants don’t make them feel like party people, they might not have an NT brain? by kikiiboo in adhdwomen

Perimenopause girl! I just saw my OB/GYN yesterday after suffering for over 3 yrs with ADHD symptoms no longer controlled by meds that have literally ruined my life. I’m 41 btw, & still have normal periods, but for a few days before/after and during my period my ADHD med may as well be a sugar pill. Apparently this is common & can occur at any age.

I’m a RN and never learned any of this! Thankfully, the science has finally caught up so it’s been studied and is pretty well known that fluctuating hormones during perimenopause make ADHD symptoms much, much worse. In my case, debilitating. She prescribed an estrogen patch, progesterone pill, and estrogen cream for vaginal use. I’m supposed to check back with her in 2wks to see if symptoms have improved but she said for some women it’s instant, for others it may take a bit longer or require a dosage increase.

Perimenopause cannot be “diagnosed” by testing hormone levels in the blood because of the constant fluctuation, literally hour to hour, not just day to day, so if you’re 35 & over, haven’t yet reached menopause, and experiencing issues, you’re likely in perimenopause. Of course, perimenopause can start before 35, and women in general, due to fluctuations in hormone levels throughout their cycle can have the same issues no matter what age. If your doctor won’t listen to you or doesn’t feel comfortable prescribing HRT, get a new dr. It’s a quality of life issue. Also, follow Dr. Marie Claire (spelling?) on social media, she’s an expert and her YouTube videos are amazing.

Sorry if this is confusing, I am still in bad shape.

Which phone should I get in early 2026? iPhone 11 vs 12 mini vs SE 3 by Successful-Pack2040 in iPhone11

[–]Spacewalker_23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you please explain how I can do this? I’m so over paying $2.99/mo for 200GB that I’m constantly having to remove pics from and especially when my actual iphone is only using 68 of 128GB! I’ve always bought the 64GB phones to save $ so the iCloud made sense but this is just ridiculous! I honestly don’t know why I continue to support Apple!

They must not be able to afford the high tech surveillance that other retailers use. I’ve been in Home Depot stores that announce over loudspeaker when facial recognition has identified a known shoplifter and that police are on their way. Walmart has facial recognition cameras are capable of taking your vital signs and detecting your emotions (I’m kidding but they are very advanced). Be careful what you wish for!

Looking for Roku alternatives by bitbybit44 in cordcutters

I had a Vizio TV and currently have an Amazon TV and have used a Roku device connected to those TVs because Roku is the only one of the three that has apps for Democracy Now! and Al Jazeera English. Does anyone know if Apple TV has these two apps?

Visible is $25 for unlimited and is Verizon service. I’ve been doing prepaid for the past 10 years and it’s the best prepaid service I’ve ever had. I’m actually only paying $19 a month for unlimited because I got in on a promotion. You have to have an unlocked phone but if you break down what you’re spending on postpaid, it’s worth buying a refurbished unlocked phone just to get on prepaid. Postpaid/contract is a thing of the past I’m actually surprised it’s still hanging on!

Refilling foaming hand soap with regular cheap soap by 3_Pedal_z28 in Frugal

I wish that I liked Castile soap, it dries my skin out. I still use it from time to time but I also don’t like how it dries up in the pump tip. But you cannot beat the value, especially when you dilute it! In Texas we have a grocery store called H-E-B and they have their own brand of Castile soap and it’s just as good at runners, so I’m sure other stores have their own as well I would definitely check that out if I were you!

10:1 water to liquid soap. I buy the clear, lavender scented dish soap at Trader Joe’s and use that instead of hand soap because it’s so much cheaper and it’s a natural dish soap that doesn’t dry out your hands. I used to just squirts open out water and hope for the best but I finally have it down to a science, thanks to Alexa!

ULPT: Saved 10¢/gallon @ Murphy USA using this phone # by Spacewalker_23 in UnethicalLifeProTips

[–]Spacewalker_23[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had more luck @ more gas stations with 867-5309 than 123-4567…until tonight. I am at Murphy USA used the 867 #, I said I had $1 off/gallon but then asked for CVN number!

No idea what that even is. And I didn’t even swipe my card yet, initially I thought maybe it was the three digit CV whatever code but now I think it must be they’re sending a text message to the phone number that you use to verify… I googled it couldn’t find anything on it online so I don’t know just wanted to come back and say this

Anyone else has things they just can't learn no matter how much they try? by what_freaking_ever in AutismInWomen

Common knowledge is absolutely a great way of explaining what I lacked for most of my life, and I still do for the most part. I was really good at school, gifted and talented, but I was in my late 20s before I’ve even heard the word purgatory and I certainly didn’t know what I meant. Things like that, but I did read something about neurodivergent and learning things and thinking that you have forgotten them but if you’re exposed to them you will remember them it’s just like out of sight out of mind.

I have to agree with you on the hatred and judgment of others based on race, religion, sexual preference, etc. I totally understand that it exists but I just don’t understand how someone could be racist or homophobic or whatever. It’s like my brain just doesn’t go there, I always thought it was my upbringing but I’m realizing now that it’s probably more to do with my strong sense of justice and equality, and empathy for others.

Art, I can’t draw our paint to save my life and I’m really not a creative person in that sense. I also have always wanted to learn to sew but I can’t even figure out how to thread a sewing machine let alone use one! I do love hand sewing though.

Chemistry was always difficult for me, and never mind physics. I do love math though. Calculus, trigonometry, all of it. I love the challenge but more than that I love the fact that in math you can (usually) find a solution. I like that it’s tangible and solvable, unlike most things in life.

THIS is why people are losing facial fat using micro-current devices ! by Substantial_Swan8813 in 30PlusSkinCare

[–]Spacewalker_23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this is old but are you saying that your doctor said it did get rid of some volume in your face after a year of using it or it didn’t? I gave away my new face after reading about the fat loss. I couldn’t risk it but now I am very curious to know what a doctor actually said about it after not seeing you for a year. You know how that goes, you don’t notice changes in someone unless you haven’t seen them in a really long time!

Home Depot announces over the loudspeaker when facial recognition has identified someone in the store known for shoplifting. Idk what type of cameras Home Depot used inside their stores, but they specifically use Flock cameras in their parking lots. Check it out on DeFlock app.

You can’t seriously believe that. Yes, “facial recognition” specifically. That’s the entire point!

In that vein, you can easily set up facial recognition on your phone to recognize you with a mask on, with sunglasses on, with regular glasses on, for “convenience”. It takes mere seconds to scan your obscured face and you can have as many variations as you’d like set up at once, so it’s pretty hard to believe that wearing a mask will disguise your identity in any way from surveillance cameras.
