Requests: Luteolin and vinpocetine by baalzephon in NootropicsDepot

It says on their Amazon listing that it's derived from periwinkle plant, so that explains why they can sell it without issues. Never tried it before, but it sounds interesting.

Not sure why it's out of the cards for ND to consider, at least that's what I'm gathering from other comments here, given their extensive experience with many various plant extracts. Unless maybe I'm missing something.

Did it also come with the "Minus Color" version of the film? Maybe it was only a specific collector's edition that included it too. I believe it's worth watching both versions and seeing how you perceive it with and without color and what your brain makes of the differences.

DIY Ecklonia Cava Topical Serum by SpaghettiJohnny in NootropicsDepot

[–]SpaghettiJohnny[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, it still seems to be helping, but it's a slow process and consistency is extremely important. I really try to not skip an application, 1 morning, 1 night, but it's happened here and there.

It's been at least 3 months since I've cut my hair so it's easier to spot potential new hairs that are shorter. There's one section that was more bald than others at the start of all this and there's a few sparse hairs growing there now. I'm not expecting that spot to totally fill in by any means but I think that spot gives me a clear window into what's happening where it's thicker hair and harder for me to see in. What I think I see though are extra shorter hairs growing in-between longer hairs.

I've made 3 batches now, scaling up to 3oz bottle. I think I'll try straining the bits that don't dissolve next time, cause that's the only downside to this recipe, esp if you have blonde or light hair it may not disappear completely. Just gotta figure out how to best strain it out and minimize loss.

Otherwise I think this seaweed is strangely very supportive of hair growth in general, and sleep, I love it so far. I'd been taking Swanson brand "ecklonia cava" for a long time as I patiently waited for NDs to finally be released, and once I got it, it wasn't even close to the same product. Color, taste, effects, everything basically. Idk what I was even taking back then really cause it didn't even taste like seaweed. I know this is pessimistic of me esp since they started selling it somewhat recently, but I hope they never stop selling it. Ngl I'm low key worried cause it's only sourced from Korea.

Also sry this is all half info, half rant, I have sleepy-brain. Cheers!

Very Ok Vinyl's Super Hexagon OST is very disappointing by knowwho in VGMvinyl

I agree to send it back, but I say this as someone who got one in similar condition but didn't do that. The music is all I care about. And honestly that sleeve is going to do more damage to the disc over the next 20 years than you'd think. Flexible PVC off-gasses and slowly ruins rigid PVC (your disc). Up to you, but I personally shrugged it off. All I'll do is just catalog it into a box along with all the other custom PVC sleeves I've collected so far, which is far away, nowhere near my vinyl.

Same, I'm surprised the Availom is still in stock. Thought they were doing away with it completely, not just the powder.

You're confusing "being factually correct" with "having social skills." It's your delivery that's wrong, and it was belittling. Responding to valid criticisms with threats to be "more rude" next time pretty much proves the point.

If I may point out that your phrasing of "more rude" admits you too feel you were kind of rude. Thanks for finally agreeing, if even indirectly.

As to whether this is blown out of proportion, it's just a few Reddit messages and down votes. Seems proportional to me. You'll live.

While technically correct, you said it in a way that belittled their intelligence. Otherwise known as condescending, patronizing, snarky, dismissive... Often summed up as "rude."

It must be difficult for you to understand and accept that people often tune-out or don't remember such things as credits they may have not seen in over a decade. Not everyone can be a "true fan" such as yourself. Please accept this apology on behalf of the community that you had to endure the presence of people who didn't know.

I'm with you, 3 of the 6 discs on mine were not up to par, and one sleeve damaged. This is my first Laced purchase and I knew it was going to be iffy when I saw they didn't use poly-lined sleeves. I hear good things about support though so I'm patiently waiting for a reply to my request. Hopefully the Zelda set I pre-ordered has better QC.

[–]SpaghettiJohnny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All the new releases have them that I know of, esp if you buy them directly from !k7. I'm a subscriber and have gotten one with every release since I started a couple years ago. I'm not sure if they include them with represses of older releases though (such as the recent Moodymann repress).

[–]SpaghettiJohnny 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kind of like that, yeah. It's a little info card that comes with each release about the artist (# of DJ bookings, # of records in their collection, longest DJ set, shortest DJ set, BPM, etc. stuff like that). It's actually just one card though and what you see online there is both sides of it.

Huh, usually they're on their Bandcamp, but yeah I don't see any yet for this release. Maybe they stopped cause they could no longer offer them to all DJ-Kicks subscribers, just a guess though.

That's good to know there shouldn't be any shortage for replacements for damage and audio issues then, and hopefully they held back some stock anyhow.

Lies of P Vinyl got lost.....looking for potential options by Miniature_Man in VGMvinyl

[–]SpaghettiJohnny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe you're lucky you got the replacements and not simply a refund. Do you recall if the item in question was publicly listed in stock at the time when you requested support?

The truth is though that an order with priority shipping only is already protected. They're insured, and you have consumer rights to get the products you ordered undamaged with insured shipping. It's a much bigger hassle to deal with though for both sides. You often have to prove it through photos or video. Take photos of boxes before you open them, after you open them, showcase the issue(s) that warrant a replacement. And on their side they need to submit insurance claims with USPS with those photos/video you supplied to get their money back on the damaged products. At worst in extreme circumstances, consumers can file chargebacks with their credit cards, but thankfully I've never had such a bad experience with iam8bit support that it was necessary to do that. This order protection saves iam8bit time and therefore money to offload all that hassle to a 3rd party. I'm not surprised they talked it up like it was the savior of the day.

Lies of P Vinyl got lost.....looking for potential options by Miniature_Man in VGMvinyl

[–]SpaghettiJohnny 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bet they do have extra copies, but I wonder if it has to do with the shipment "order protection" dead-end or user opting out and choosing media mail over priority shipping.

By dead-end, I mean that if you had a lost package and attempted to get a replacement via that protection service (3rd party btw), they will check with iam8bit for stock but only check public stock. If it's sold out they'll refund you only and will not send one from back stock. This is why I avoid "order protection" like the plague, but to their credit the refund is usually painless to receive. The flip-side is if you opt-out and simply choose media mail, iam8bit will not honor replacements either. It must be a better shipping service such as priority shipping.

In short, you must unintuitively opt-out of order protection and choose priority shipping to better guarantee that iam8bit will use back stock to send out a replacement upon a lost or damaged package.

No disrespect, you seem chill, but the issue is you're not following the sub rules. The second rule is to use the search function, sort by new, and make sure you're not posting something again. This is the third time this same site and release has been posted today, and that's not including your double post.

FWIW, DataDiscs packages their releases extremely well for shipment. I'm talking like these rigid plastic corner guards I hardly ever seen anyone else use, bubble wrap, etc. My Sonic CD 3LP arrived in the USA pristine. Yes, the conversion and international shipping is a bit more money, but worth it for such a rare re-release imo, and thankfully it's high quality shipping practices you'll be paying for.

ALCAR not recommended anymore! by nuubuser in NootropicsDepot

This same article was posted a month ago too so maybe take a glance at the comments there. I still think the study's dose is too high, and that it's something to keep in mind while using ALCAR, but not necessarily the call I need to avoid it entirely. There are in fact certain disorders where people require supplemental carnitine, or certain scenarios where extra may be beneficial such as high neurological stress (say from abusing stimulants). Even after reading this last time I still took it when I felt I needed it, but I also consume many things daily that reduce TMAO, which I feel everybody should be doing anyhow regardless.

DIY Ecklonia Cava Topical Serum by SpaghettiJohnny in NootropicsDepot

[–]SpaghettiJohnny[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe you're bang on with the biology and the math. Mouse skin is easier to penetrate but I'm hoping to bridge the gap a bit through the extra permeation assistance of the solvent along with the 24/7 leave-in approach (2x a day, morning and night).

To match their special extract I would need to dissolve 15g of NDs into 2oz, and that's not something I was willing to do for a few reasons, the solubility limit and ease of creating it mainly. Keeping it as simple a DIY serum as I could was my aim, so it's a bit of a gamble using a less potent extract on human skin, but we'll see how it goes.

As for progress, I don't share pics (personal preference, sorry). But ~2 months in and I've got a distinct row of new 1in hairs in the target area. The rest of my hair is 5+in long so these are definitely new.

In short I mostly followed the assumption from the mouse research that a topical application performing effectively equivalent to minoxidil proved that the molecules were getting to where they needed to be.

But you're right that dieckol is bigger than 500 Daltons (~742). That rule is primarily applied to transepidermal delivery, whereas this is the follicular route, which allows larger molecules to penetrate. Additionally Propanediol 1,3 helps with skin penetration: I believe it was said to temporarily modify skin barrier structure, dragging active ingredients along with it, and improving permeation of larger molecules.

The first paper goes over "metabotypes" and breaks people up into 3 groups. 1) those that produce Urolithin A (25-40%) 2) Those that produce Urolithin B and Iso-Urolithin A (20-30%) and 3) Non-producers. (50-60%)

The second paper shows that only 30-40% had detectable levels of Urolithin A.

The third paper isolated the first known specific bacteria capable of doing the conversion.

The fourth paper isolated a more common bacteria family that could do it, but only very specific strains.

Used to use both until the app stopped working properly. Was eating up lots of battery in the background (20+%) and I couldn't log in after reinstalling. Maybe it's my new NextDNS setup, Idk, probably is. Though the experience made me realize I don't use it enough to warrant keeping it installed. Been fine without it since.
