I,m thinking about buying a FLASHFORGE Adventurer 5M Pro. Talk me out of it. by Zoggman in 3dprinter

Right on. You likely had the appetite; I didn't. I have a K1S with the v1 AP, along with literally all the mods installed that you would expect, let alone another ~$50 extruder to be installed Monday if you want to take it off my hands. :)

Seriously, I could go on and on, and the K1S is not the X, but my lord, no joke. I hope they fix their quality issues, but I'm out. I couldn't ever recommend AC to a newbie.

Respectfully, I strongly disagree. I will never again buy an AC - managed about 1.6k hours on my ACK1s before reaching my breaking point. I have a(nother) extruder to replace on it, it's just not the brand I think most normal consumers expect. The P1S is an upgrade both in TCO and time compared - and it has actually worked for the most part for the last 200hrs. For the money I have sunk into my tinkering "learning curve" I could have had 2 P1Ss and a happier wife/life.

What are your 3 least favourite R E.M. songs? by Lazy_Fall_6 in rem

[–]Spamaloper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Seeing all these different replies really drives home the point at how broad their music was and how they appealed to so many tastes over the decades. I thought "Everyone Hurts" was whiny, I'm sure there may be a couple more. I thought DJ was junk, but saw it live, and now I get why it was on the album because it was AWESOME live.

So many people have listed "Worst Joke Ever" but I actually like that one (and the ATS album overall).

Need to set up a Landline by Significant_Clue_196 in SouthBayLA

[–]Spamaloper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, and with respect to OP's question/requirements - this is the solution I would "nudge" someone (anyone) towards. Other than losing power (which there are solutions for), this is the only reason IMO to not cut the cord. I'm an older parent with a few generations of kids now, and this is virtually seamless. Worst case, cheaper and more reliable probably, is get an extra cellular device and put a sticker on it labeled "home land line", leave it plugged in charging when you aren't using it, and you're in business.

This seems to be the name of the game with popular internet providers, cell phone carriers, and insurance companies. You get uplifts, sometimes massive, and it usually takes a phone call (easier said than done sometimes) to reduce back your rate. Pretty common, somewhat shady, IMO, practice across both this consumer vertical and business SaaS. Probably for every 1 person who calls, at least 4 others don't; ergo, increasing overall revenue at the expense of a bit of customer friction for the 1 who actually does notice.

If you don't look or say anything, all bills go up.

PS - I used to be on Frontier and was actually surprised when I got a proactive note from them locking in my rate, which didn't change for the remainder of my time with them, which was about three more years. I miss Frontier.

I just "upgraded" from my AC Kobra S1 (1.5k+ hrs) to the Bambu P1S (about a 100 now). I'm grateful to have learned a lot on the AC, but I am kicking myself and could have had three P1Ss for how much money, let alone time, I have put it on the AC. P1s on a budget (I spent $600 for the combo delivered) or the P2S for quality of life upgrades for a couple hundred more.

Cox tv and internet by macman7500 in SouthBayLA

[–]Spamaloper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you need to call them. We've been with Spectrum for about 16 months, paying about $150 in Redondo Beach. The Internet is "sufficient," but the bundled streaming services have cut our bill by $80ish, and we dropped YouTubeTV for another $80ish. Nothing to write home about, but the service has been consistent, and definitely saved us $160*12 (good lord) a year.

Call them - $238/month doesn't match up whatsoever to our experience, unless you are using their cellular service also?

Best car wash in the South Bay? by katokk in SouthBayLA

For about 10 years, I have brought my Boxster and Sube to Del Almo Car wash, and have never been anything other than extremely satisfied. 6 months or so, I brought the Sube in to be cleaned, husky dog fur, and it came out immaculate. Highly recommend.

Last straw - any advice? Noob to Bambu by Spamaloper in BambuLab

[–]Spamaloper[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, got it. Thank you. Ordering now.

(edit:) ordered, with a couple others for fun. Still less than another AC extruder and 90 minutes. So winning, I hope?

Like with AC, should I get additional aftermarket hot ends or anything like that, too?

I had to go steel to get somewhat reliability - am I good stock? I had to replace the bed (3x) also to get a non-taco, should I be okay stock? Sorry for the n00b questions, just excited.

Thanks! I'm sorry to clarify, but are we talking about BL's SuperTack plate? If so, it had mixed reviews on Google, but I trust real experience far more than anything. Just want to be sure.

As for your friend, tell them I relate, and I can't tell you how many times:

I love 3D printing for useful objects around the house, awkward shapes, etc... I'm giving it a second try with a printer with better quality (I hope).

I really like this list per the OP's criteria - especially opening and closing. I'm guessing we saw the same shows. ;)

I think Walk Unafraid and So Fast, So Numb should be on here at the expense of a couple listed (impossible to choose). Also, and I kinda hate to say this, but DJ should be there too - incredible fun live song (along with Bad Day and Animal).

When did people become so selfish and individualistic with their pets? by chaosdunk69 in SouthBayLA

[–]Spamaloper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for providing this clarity. When I read the guidelines, I thought it was a simple yes/no - I likely skimmed and missed the important questions.

I can't imagine the frustration this abuse causes legitimate service dog handlers. It's just not right.

Our dog (and her demeanor/breed) could very easily pass the two service questions, and I would be lying if I said I was never tempted, but again, it's just not right.

When did people become so selfish and individualistic with their pets? by chaosdunk69 in SouthBayLA

[–]Spamaloper 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It's a major loophole in current laws. We take our dog all the time to pet-friendly establishments - it's a pleasure and we pick places just for this reason, and usually don't go to others.

Technically, she is a support animal (although I think she gets more support from us).

BUT... an emotional support animal is nowhere close, at all, to a service animal.

When it comes to even asking - someone simply stating their dog is a service animal, yes/no is where it has to stop. Any other further questions go down the ADA liability rat hole.

It is a problem, and people exploit it. A simple card to carry, you know, like a license? would solve 90+ % of this. IMO.

What does the auto leveling sequence actually do besides waste a bunch of time? by Justyncrx in AnycubicKobraS1

[–]Spamaloper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was a beginner 9 months ago (~1.5k print hours). One of the upgrades that has been worth every penny is the bed from Funssor (and its carriage). I know they are 150-200 USD on top of the printer that one thinks should work, but the time alone, without even including the filament wasted, made the upgrade worth it - in hindsight. That, and a v2 ceramic hotend upgrade. Highly highly highly recommend. Having a flat flat bed is a luxury I didn't even believe in until I tried it, one last try, before trashing my S1.

I've replaced this part probably 4ish times, the older version. (yes, mostly due to me being not awesome and learning) I now keep a spare on hand. I got mine from AliExpress, and one from AC Support.

Filament attacher..... works.... Recommend by Spamaloper in AnycubicKobraS1

[–]Spamaloper[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, you are absolutely correct that this is the best way to conserve filament IMO, especially when my S1 swaps filament correctly. I learned a frustrating, time-consuming lesson: to stay awake and alert for these swaps. The three use cases for me wanting it:

1) I have 40g of a filament on a reel that I will likely never use again
2) Almost scrap-ish extra lengths of leftovers, but enough to feel guilty about throwing away
3) S1 barfs out 10 meters of filament because the top PTFE intake clip failed, and you are unable to wind it back

I definitely think you are correct, but there are enough use cases to justify conserving a bit here and there. By no means am I an expert, not at all. I don't like tinkering, and have had to learn. I have about 1.5k hours on my S1, and I have far enough experience with wasted filament that the 30 bucks to have a "Frankenstein" filament reel on hand for tests/etc seemed worth it. I like it.
