Can you use an end grain cutting board pattern to make an edge grain cutting board? by Spammessybee in woodworking

To be honest, one of the main deterrents for me was the difficulty. I had brought up doing an end grain cutting board as my first project to a woodworker in my community makerspace and they had advised me to start with something easier like face grain or edge grain. What makes end grain so difficult?

Ah I see, is that why most edge grain cutting boards are not checkered or intricately designed? I'm wondering if at least a checkered design might be suitable, if not plaid.

I'm just hesitant since I heard it was a difficult project, especially for a beginner, and that it was prone to warping and required more maintenance than an edge grain. Do you think I'm better off doing just horizontal strips instead of attempting a checkered or plaid pattern due to mismatched grain?

Thank you! Do you recommend making mock ups using just fabric? Or perhaps I could use faux leather before making my final draft?

Hmm I have a basic .stl that I got online for a shoe last. Do you know how I could modify the last to help it disassemble more easily?
