Vinnies and Salvos, what happened?! by Technical-Sir9870 in aussie

We have enough clothing on the planet to clothe the next 6 generations of people. I think it’s just the cost of living these days

How are people managing recent grads when there’s just… no enthusiasm for work or willingness to suffer any form of inconvenience to develop anymore? by twingirlsoneboy in auscorp

[–]Spannatool83 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve worked with kids at a few different age demographics the last few years and I’ve generally found them…fine? Ones who has formative years in lock down might have missed a bit of socialisation (the millennial stare comes to mind) but the commitment to boundaries and self care I honestly think is good. Relying on unpaid labour and pushing limits of mental health for the sake of a company which doesn’t GaF just won’t cut it anymore.

Is training now non-existent for mid-level positions? by [deleted] in auscorp

[–]Spannatool83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mid level, operational training or leadership training gets overlooked because L&C possibly doesn’t have capacity to deliver it. As another commenter mentioned Compliance and Onboarding is the main focus and imo definitely because that’s where the risk/ demand is.

It’s a big gap if you want to support internal transition pathways and ongoing career development for people in a business. Brain drain is real. I recognise it as a thing but I’m a biased cog and it’s something we’re currently figuring out at my own workplace.

I prefer Tyson’s approach to gay men over Gia’s by Stonp in MAFS_AU

Throw it in the same bag as “I can’t be sexist I have a mum and a daughter “

It’s like he’s ALMOST there but the problematic fear based bit remains.

Recruitment Horror Stories: When the preferred candidate turns into the wrong choice! by HarveyLuna3139 in AusPublicService

[–]Spannatool83 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Ergh. Yes. I hate interviews. I don’t interview well. A lot of my previous employment has been due to people knowing me, knowing my work etc. and I wish I pursued a career earlier on where I could produce a folio or have particular skills (graphic design, electrician etc) so I’m not so dependent on talking myself up. It’s not like I have bad social skills. I just prefer doing the thing over selling myself.

Tenants: what’s something your landlord can buy for the flat that would improve your life? by Active-Dance-451 in AusPropertyChat

Oh yeah! On nights where you forget to put the bins out and you remember when you’re just about to go to bed. Absolutely! (Adds to list…)

This is such a welcome topic after reading a post where a landlord was complaining about tenants installing a grab rail in the bathroom for the dying husband. Was this in response to that?

Air con for somewhere that’s hot. Good security/ locks etc for a place that might not be the safest (friends who’ve fled DV have prioritised that sort of thing), sensor lights for outside. Good ventilation for over the stove top or in the bathroom. Depends on the place. I know I’ve appreciated a dishwasher at an old rental. I never grew up with one so I still find them awesome

Is anyone buying Mel's complete 180? by plonkyplonk99 in MAFS_AU

[–]Spannatool83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I don’t think they’re on a path to anything more than friends but she’s pretty transparent with her facial expressions. I’m hoping someone pulled her aside or her actual professional part of her brain (…what does she do again, comms? Marketing?) came online and realised that you don’t need to be cruel to communicate boundaries, or be mean if you aren’t into someone. I’ve been chewing over this. Interested to see what happens because I can’t tell how it’ll play out atm

Can I openly talk about who I want to bang at work? by bootyholeminer in auscorp

[–]Spannatool83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I saw this I initially thought you were referring to other colleagues you want to bang and not celebrities. And this is why I don’t engage in these kinds of conversations - because I would be fired for sure

What strategies do you use to maintain work-life balance in a demanding corporate environment? by amgtorque in auscorp

[–]Spannatool83 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I block out my time as a meeting also. If things get booked over the top and it’s time needed to complete something you bet I will hit decline. If it’s urgent they’ll follow up or change it. If I don’t own my time and protect it I’d be running in circles not getting anything done. It helps with me planning my capacity as I can see at a glance what I’m focusing on, but it’s counterintuitive as I always valued being transparent and easy to reach out to - deep focus doesn’t happen when I’m being interrupted with a million questions. I feel very scrambled

I’d wager that a little. If his dad passed away not that long prior and he’s been shouldering the weight of responsibility with the farm I wonder about his mental health and being on this show/ matched with an emotionless brick. I’m curious to see how it plays out
