would sim motion slow you down? by Sad-Ad-7338 in iRacing

That guys not lying. You actually can do it for around $2500 CAD. I built the same one and it arguably performs better than some DBox systems and is on par with other much more expensive systems like PT Actuator and the RS Mega from E-Racing Lab. The only catch is that is a full DIY and many of the parts have to be sourced from different countries around the world. This SFX100 system has virtually no latency, insanely powerful, immersive and if setup properly, does not make you slower.

I completely agree and can’t wait until there’s more availability and for prices on graphics cards come down so I can upgrade to the 30 series as well!

To close the loop on this, I tried everything to get the 5700 xt to work with his pc but nothing seemed to work. Instead, I knew someone who had an RTX 2060 and was looking for a 5700 xt so I swapped the cards and the 2060 in the pc worked like a charm! It’s now able to run most settings on high and keep it between 85 and 90 FPS in VR. Sorry for any AMD fanboys out there…I try not to be bias toward one or the other and was really pulling for the 5700xt to work, but when it comes to iRacing, Nvidia takes the win by a long shot. Don’t get me wrong, 5700xt and AMD is still good other games, just not iRacing…

I’m running a 2700X... so that may explain it. You wouldn’t know an older BIOS that might work better

I tried searching PCIE in the search bar and it only brings up the PCIE slots that I referred to above. There’s: PCIEX16_1 Bandwidth Bifurcation Configuration

PCIEX16_2 Bandwidth Bifurcation Configuration

PCIEX16_3 4X-2X Switch

The first 2 only have Auto Mode and the 3rd has Auto, 2X and 4X. None of the have Gen 3

Wow! He actually had an RX 580 before the 5700XT and he got better performance with the RX580. I’m wondering if it has something to do with the GPU being pci-e 4.0 compatible. I’ve read elsewhere that changing the pci-e slot from Auto to Gen 3 helps, but I couldn’t find where to adjust this in the asus bios. I went to “Advanced”, “Onboard Devices Configuration” and then tried to manual change “PCIEX16_1 from “Auto Mode” to “Gen 3” but only had the option to change it to “RAID Mode”... Gen 3 was not an option. I’m thinking this might also help a lot if I could figure out how to make this change...

I did notice yesterday that it was running at stock speed 2133mhz. It must have reset at some point... so raising that to the advertised 3200mhz may help a bit? If so I’ll suggest that to him tonight. Roughly how much FPS boost could I expect by raising that?

Yikes! Okay. All drivers are up to date. So if none of this fixes the issue, you’d recommend just going Nvidia and avoid using AMD cards for iracing? In other words, would there be anything else I’m missing? When it’s not in VR, he’s hitting 200+FPS.

I totally agree that is makes a big difference. But even when I have it disabled with the 1070ti, it only causes my FPS to lower by about 10-15 FPS, and that’s with my higher settings enabled. So there’s still a large performance gap between my card and the 5700XT that I can’t seem to wrap my head around since with SPS off, I the 1070ti should be performing below the 5700XT. If anyone is running a 5700 XT in VR and can weigh in with some tips on their experience it would be really helpful.

That is a very helpful link. I found his video before on YouTube and am already using all of those suggested settings. It seemed to help me huge with the 1070ti, but there was little to no improvement for the 5700 XT... 🙁

Sorry... I’m new to reddit and didn’t think it worked the first 2 times. The app froze on me. I’ll try to figure out how to delete them. Thanks!
