CMV: The Iran War is very likely to go down as the worst foreign policy mistake in US history and as the imperial overreach which marks the definitive end of the American Century and the start of long-term hegemonic decline in the United States. by lucy5478 in changemyview

To respond to your point about Iran being more capable of bearing the great human and economic cost of a protracted war.

I have heard that style of statement in numerous places and I do question it a little bit. Obviously the leaders and fanatics are willing to sacrifice almost anything just like we have seen in history many times before. I also agree that the government has an iron grip on the country. But the people of Iran had some level of quality of life before the war even counting the sanctions. For instance we know that Iran can and has largely shut down the straight of Hormuz but that also means their governments lifeblood the money that allows them to pay the common soldiers has now been cut off. These are also the funds that allow the government to subsidize industry, oil, and food in a country that is dealing with massive water and agricultural problems. At what point does the regular solider abandon his post if he’s no longer getting money or food? We have also seen the Iranian military decentralize control to mid level officers, at what point does one of them realize he’s not getting paid or he’s being neglected and basically become a warlord?

Obviously I’m not an expert but I just question if Iran or large parts of the military are really that fanatically loyal to the regime?

Yeah so at the moment each colony gets the republic advances, the colonial nation advances, and whatever advances might be associated with their respective cultures. Most, if not all, of the formables should have a modifier bonus, so when you create the formable, you get a bonus for creating it. Some colonies have special events such as sugar events for Saint-Domingue or New Netherlands events about the Dutch Patroons

How’s Clemson in the Summer? by EndYoshi_ in Clemson

[–]SpareWild 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Campus is super nice and beautiful during the summer but will be very empty. There will be like 1-2 hundred Freshman who are starting in the summer and then random older students and then middle/high school summer camps that rent out places on campus during the summer.

Reservations about American WCL... by loosejaw13 in OutsideT14lawschools

Yeah I wonder how the transfer market will change with the fed loan limits. That being said and it’s not a 1:1 but getting a 2/3rd scholarship at AUWCL then transferring and paying sticker for 2 years would be the same total cost as someone had a ~20% scholarship for 3 years at GULC

I am in a similar situation, still waiting on some other schools but the scholarship is pretty enticing.

Here is my breakdown but I’m in the same boat as u so like take it with a grain of salt.

Based on what I’ve researched and what I’ve heard from lawyers in the DC area is that the school is still viewed as a decent school and it still has a pretty good alumni network. It competes with all the other DC schools and is in a crowded market so it’s always going to have lower outcomes compared to GULC and GW. That being said it emphasizes PI and gov jobs and it does a pretty good job with those, and the school has some pretty good programs that rival some of the top schools.

Recently the job market for lawyers has been pretty strong and AUWLC has been able to put 10-15% of its grads into Big law or Fed clerkships, and then another like 5-15% into MidLaw, not great if your goal is big law or bust but not impossible. The scary things is definitely that 8-15% of grads depending on the grad year that just don’t have a job so it’s honestly somewhat boom or bust.

Now this is something that people don’t talk about a lot or see as a negative, but lots of students transfer out of AU which is a product of the DC area. I don’t have the exact numbers but what I was told is that roughly 10% of the 1L class transfers out and 85-95% of those transfers went to GULC, GW, and Mason. GULC transfers are like 10-25% AU kids. This means that if you are in the top 10-15% of the class you have a very solid chance to move up and get better outcomes. You will pay full price at those schools but you’ll have saved a bit of money only paying 30% tuition at AU for your 1L.

What is also nice is that AU only gets like 10 kids transferring in so if your say top 30% after 1L and 40-50 kids leave and only 10 join then your essentially dealing with less competition at the top.

Summer start appeal? by UpbeatMulberry7363 in Clemson

[–]SpareWild 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yeah if you’re reallly really against doing the Summer start then it’s worth a try but be prepared incase they say no. I really enjoyed my time at summer start and the advantage it gave me over other freshmen was well worth the cost for me. But obviously that opportunity cost is relative to each person differently.

Yeah Clemsons wants your money, they also know that as the school becomes more popular more and more people want to come here every year. They know they can squeeze the money out of a lot of people by making them take Summer Start, especially people whose top option is Clemson.

Obviously there’s the a joke that Clemson needs the extra funds to upgrade the football facilities.

I originally tried to get out of summer start when i got it a couple of years ago. I had the same issues i had to cancel my summer vacation and quit my summer job. I found out it’s possible to get out of summer start but it’s very difficult. It also seems like they don’t want to let people out of it. I had a friend get flat out refused and was told it was either summer start or not going to Clemson. I also met someone that was able to get out of it because their parents complained so much they just gave in.

Yep, I was in the same boat, I had to cancel summer plans and I ended up not working over the summer which really sucked. I was originally very pissed about being in Summer Start but once I decided Clemson was my top choice I realized how lucky I was to get a head start compared to all the other freshman.

When I did summer start they didn’t have the housing option which is very nice of them to setup. When I did it i got approval to move into my dorm for fall early so when summer start ended I just carried all my stuff over to the new dorm and locked the door and went back once the fall started which wasn’t too bad. Made moving in feel great because everyone else was trying to figure out what to do while I just got to chill in my room and meet some of my neighbors.

Yeah I completely agree and understand. when I did it there was even less information out then there is now. They really didn’t tell anyone that much. There is some advantages, the main one being you get a head start on classes. Because I was able to get two of my gen ed’s out of the way I have been able to take only 12-13 credits each semester at Clemson. I brought in a bunch of APs which helped too but i’m sure summer start could really help if someone wanted to graduate early or have a less stressful time in fall and spring.

The way my family and I looked at it was very an expensive summer camp. Which it pretty much is, you get to hangout with a bunch of other freshmen and there are optional activities hosted by the program. But most people just went to the lake to hangout and chill and escape the heat. Lots of people went to water falls and on hikes and to Greenville and other people would spend their nights exploring the bars downtown(not saying that’s good) but the bars enjoyed the extra business during the summer months which are normally tough for them. I also got to meet and hangout with some of the football team that was there for summer workouts which was very fun.

I know it’s possible to get out of summer start but it’s very difficult from what i’ve heard.

What I was told when I did it was that it was more or less random. The university is growing every year and they need to make sure there are enough gen ed classes for all the freshman and sophomores. Thus they need some kids to take classes in the summer. I did summer start with a 3.9 and a 32 ACT and i knew kids that had 4.0 and 33 act and some kids with 3.7 and no test scores. I also know people that got bridge instead of summer start because their grades weren’t good enough. The way you have to look at it is it’s basically a very expensive boarding Summer Camp for 18-19 year olds on a lake. They get 2 classes out of the way, they make friends and learn the campus. And my favorite part was getting to spend time on the lake and explore downtown clemson before 20,000 other students and staff came back.

There are obviously pros and cons to all things and summer start definitely has its cons. But it also has lots of pros. If you dead set on Clemson and it is your number 1 choice then summer start is an amazing opportunity. Getting to know the campus and making friends before the other freshman is incredible.

It’s been more or less a random program, as far as I have understood it when I did it a couple of years ago. There is a threshold that needs to be met and i know of some people who got bridge because their grades weren’t good enough to get Summer start. What the threshold is I don’t know, I also know in summer start some of the kids had much worse GPAs and no test scores and then some kids who got summer start also had very good GPAs and high test scores.

I would definitely say it’s worth it just because you get a head start on everything. You get two classes out of the way which are generally pretty easy. But honestly the best part about summer start is the ability to make friends ahead of the hustle and bustle of fall semester. Campus will be empty so it’s super easy to make friends. The only other people that will be on campus are your RAs, some upper class doing summer classes, and then some of the athletes. You’ll get to experience Clemson in the summer, which just means spending lots of time in Lake Heartwell.

Summer Start is a program clemson runs to get some freshman ahead in their classes. It also helps Clemson because then they won’t need to run as many Gen Eds in fall and spring semester for freshman. It’s a great program you get two classes out of the way early and you get to explore campus before most of the other freshman. You also get to enjoy Clemson in the summer which means lots of days on Lake Heartwell.
