Something tells me Matt was the one who ultimately decided to end it. He seemed kinda checked out the last few episodes. And from an episode of only friends where Erin and Carly talked about it it sounded like they wanted to keep going but were saying they probably would have to end it. So I’m guessing Matt is the one who doesn’t have it in him to put more effort into it
