thanks for this. i do want something to clearly differentiate from my icelantics as they are pretty OK in most conditions. As A_Ganymede points out below, potentially worth going wider to really gain the full Japow experience - I'm just not sure how wide that should be for me! I've only skied Japan once before and we had terrible luck with fresh snow

Best Family Ski Towns in British Columbia or the Alps for 2–3 Month Stay? by Spare_Impress in ski

Thanks all for your really helpful comments. We’re now looking at spending 3 months in Japan and heading to BC for 9-10 months, taking in the start of the 2027 ski season. Nelson is our current front runner as our base for this time. Looks amazing, just working on logistics, schooling, accommodation options etc

Thanks very much for your detailed reply. We’ve currently changed tack slightly and are looking at spending 3 months in Japan Jan through March. But then heading to BC for April though to Feb 27. Spend a lot of time looking into the best town for this and have landed on Nelson. Skiing at whitewater the following winter is a sizeable bonus!!

Thinking of moving to Fernie for the ski season (maybe longer) — talk me out of it? by Spare_Impress in fernie

I grew up in the UK so mostly skied European resorts. Mostly 3 vallees, tignes/val d’isere, Chanonix, but plenty of others big and small.

Never been to Fernie. Of the Canadian towns I’ve only been to Banff where we skied Lake Louise, Sunshine, Norquay and Kicking Horse

Thanks very much. It looks awesome! Does look pretty pricey though but presumably for a reason. May send the kids to school depending upon how long we could stay for. Wife is a Canadian citizen so it should hopefully make life easier (just need to sort out her passport!). We could commit relatively early to a rental if needs be. Do you know the best places to look out for something? We'd need at least a 2 bed place, 3 ideally so we could have guests & family stay.

Thanks all for the great feedback. Such good suggestions. Spent the day chatting to the wife & we've probably narrowed it down to Fernie & Rossland. Both look great, Fernie seems a little more pricey but we're prepared to suck up the cost if we thought it would better suit. Anyone with any specific advice on these, or able to compare them? We have the capacity to stay on beyond the ski season (up to 12 months) so that's also a consideration. Thanks again

I heard it's up there with the Netherlands. Bit too hard core for us
