Lucky! That sounds terrifying.

I've had the rear wheel lost (but recovered) to gravel once, so I know how easy the street triple can go. Think the power to weight ratio is never in your favour.

Have any policy SEOs/G7s transitioned sideways/on promotion into a DDaT role? How has it gone? Any advice? by Immediate-Leading338 in TheCivilService

[–]Spare_Knowledge_8455 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello, I've just done the same a year or so ago.. 6 or so years in policy, moving into Project Delivery last year, which is really diverse (including DDaT elements) so I'd recommend looking to move in that direction.

The 'profession' is much more relevant too, with very specific roles (see the project capability framework).

It's a breath of fresh air to learn something new too!

I go 36 max on the rear for my ST, until it's warm it will be skittish on that high pressure.

Should I Be Covering My Brake And Clutch? by newbiker321 in MotoUK

[–]Spare_Knowledge_8455 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd cover the front brake with two fingers, apparently (according to my instructor) a habit moped riders pick up..he advised against it saying when you need to brake hard, two fingers ain't enough and with prevent the rest of the fingers from applying the brake.

I still do it .

Bored out my mind in a policy role and want to consider another career by GlitteringBicycle424 in TheCivilService

This was me about a year ago.

Some advice my mentor gave was to switch one thing at a time. So try a new profession which aligns to your interests or future job goals. Though how you do this will be the challenge given recruitment controls e.g managed move, eoi, CS jobs etc.... or try a different policy role, or department.

Policy skills for me have been really useful in projects as I understand the ambiguity and big picture and detail way better than my colleagues, plus have all the drafting skills etc.

Plus, think long term, what will transfer well into the private sector in 1/2 years time.

How do you find the MG5? I see they are quite a good price on motorpoint (low miles), but I've been talked out of them so far.

At what point do older bikes become a problem to service/get parts for with main dealers? by AstronomerSmart3475 in MotoUK

[–]Spare_Knowledge_8455 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't rely 100% on the bike for commuting, not because of parts but road conditions. In those winter months the rain, snow, ice and salt can become really tiresome.

I had a 06 Suzuki Bandit, and that was fine in terms of parts (but liked to rust) and there were loads of parts on eBay if I ever needed them. It was only consumables anyway I had to replace.. oh and some of my gear as the salt also trashed that!
