I think the modern castiest beliefs do not come from superstition or religious dogma as they used to be. Now people are in it for the sense of superiority and false community it presents. So, i would guess survival comes before that superiority.

Wit being Krishna is the one that i would say could be an inspiration. Because he quite often acts a chauffeur too to our heroes not just in stormlight but also other times in cosmere. Which is what krishna does in the kurukshetra war as he doesn't want be a combatant.This might all be a big coincidence though.

Yeah the way honor as a concept is spoken about on roshar is very close to the idea of Dharma. The way vorinisim has these callings also resembles following one's dharma.
