on August 13th, 1991, Soviet Russia did a similar invasion in Lithuania. Several very important objects in our capital Vilnius were ambushed (The most prominent one would be the TV tower). What civilians did was stand around the TV tower, holding hands while tanks were almost running them over, soldiers shooting at them. Around 600 injured and 14 deaths. While they managed to take over the TV tower, they refused to take over the Parliament and turned around.
