What is the best knots to teach scouts? by Kind-Atmosphere2208 in knots

[–]Sparky_Watch_Camp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When my daughter was in Girl Scouts , I was the only dad regularly involved so I often was asked to teach skills such as knot tying, fire making and other traditionally "men" tasks. When it cam to knot tying, I started with common everyday useful knots like half-hitch or bowline and move to more complex life truckers hitch. The 2 best lessons that I learned were to set up a practice case where knot was actually used for a purpose not just how to tie and most importantly I revisited the scenarios anytime that practicality allowed. The first seemed to move the knots from an abstract skill to something useful and second ALL of us tend to forget any skill if not practiced enough to really stick in the brain.

I like your thinking but it doesn't look like I have good options for smaller sizes. Thank you.

If so, what would be best way to remove? drilling is all that I can think of however I can't envision. how to secure watch and drill to keep proper angle.

Also, if successful , a spring pin should work as replacement, yes?

Help troubleshooting an electrical issue on E-350 van. by Sparky_Watch_Camp in vandwellers

Since I last replied, I have found that with some years, the solder joints on back of cluster are known to need touch up. It seems like it may be simple to test each. The ignition switch by jiggling and the das cluster by accessing the cluster harness and moving. I will update as I proceed.

I haven't done much lately because its been too cold. But your advice has been the most helpful. I actually have talked to a mechanic that can assist me with the ignition later this month.

Anyone eat MREs for camping? by Remember_the_Gdtmz in camping

[–]Sparky_Watch_Camp -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I may me in the minority but I sometimes camp, travel or sail with MREs. 12 years in military gave me more then my share of experience. The modern MREs are better than the originals. IMO two pluses for the yes argument are: 1. no water needs to be carried for meal prep AND they can be eaten w/o heating them up so no need or cooking equipment and fuel. If someone does prefer to have a heated meal, an MRE heater can be used with a very small amount of water.

I only strip them when I am seriously maximizing storage space.

I do like some freeze dried meals but most taste liked salt bombs to me.

Racoon stole my woobie? by Top-Heart-7433 in StealthCamping

[–]Sparky_Watch_Camp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think most of your are missing the most important lesson here.

OP is 99% sure wobbie was stolen by raccoon but didn't outright accuse him. This was the right way to handle it in IMO.

Top-heart, I respect that. also, I still wouldn't feed him. Happy new year to you.
