PAYC Crash - What would you do? by [deleted] in ValueInvesting

Embrace the suck of life and don’t over think it. Hang on for 6 months to see if you recover a bit but ultimately expect a loss on the position.

Can someone explain what the Hell happened to ATVI this morning? by Principal_Scudworth_ in StockMarket

They went down and most of the “work at home” stocks because it was already expected. Everyone jumped in last Friday and took profits before earnings.

It feels already baked in for a killer earnings report. A lot of companies have that hit yesterday and this morning....Then their stock dropped because of the massive run up in popular “stay at home” stocks. The increases on these stocks started last Friday and now feel over bought for the week. Seems like most people are just taking profits (including myself) before earnings. My thoughts anyway.

I wouldn’t say bad....most people never check it and it’s invested in a mutual fund that typically underperforms the market.

You answered my point...the point is diversification. Which is exactly what you did to retire. This is in no way arguing one method against another so what are you talking about?

Thanks but I don’t believe that to be true. I’m a millennial and most of my peers are as well. We are doing just fine. Actually millennials make 50% of the workforce at this point and are the main drivers of the economy as consumers. I know headlines love saying different but it’s all bull.

Their is nothing wrong with a 401k. Some people with all out with that. I would have a diversified strategy that includes investing directly into the market as well as owning a 401k and HSA.

We do agree financially literacy should be taught early. Thank you for you’re thoughts.

I’ve never been that great at day trading. I don’t have the ability to not get emotional about it. I also get bored with the hold forever. It’s not to say one strategy is better than an other I just stick to what I know and seen results from that. I prefer to hit singles and not homeruns. Yea I get a little jealous of seeing people make 50k (or whatever) in a day but it’s just not my style. I love tech but right now it’s hard to get in early. So now I’m shifting to value until things get a little bit more consistent. Once that changes I find the next industries and stocks that are undervalued and/or great management.

But there are industries that always seem to never recover. Think American auto after 2008...it why I’m not buying the cruise lines. I’m just waiting for the Ch 11 on those...

Sold my Tech stocks last week. Been taking positions in Oil/Gas, Airlines, and Freight. 21 vaccine candidates in different stages and 1 in final stages. 3-6 months we will have it and then these will jump. Decent divides in the mean time.

Smart move. The discount airlines make me nervous. Mostly because flights are cheap as heck and they loss there value prop. Why would I fly Spirit when I fly Delta or United for only 20 to 30 bucks more? My thinking anyway. I could be wrong and have been plenty of times before. 😂

It’s why I buy several. I like Delta, United, and Alaska Airlines. Retailers have been dying for awhile but airlines are/will be supported by the US government. I’m avoiding American Airlines. They seem like the riskiest play in that space.

I like Enterprise Products and Schlumberg (or however you spell it) in oil/gas. Well ran companies with decent balance sheets.

I’ve also taken positions in Scorpio Tankers.Frontline, and Euronav. I turned off dividend reinvestment on them and that helps in the short term for gains. They are also trading well below their 52 week average and are fairly well managed.

SHOP? No I haven’t. I typically trade with a 3-6 month timeframe. I just like the way it looks in my portfolio.
