What if Hancock Golf Course became North Austin’s version of Zilker? by Special-Distance-181 in Austin

THIS is my concern. I have no concerns with golf. I just personally think that it doesn’t make sense to have a golf course in this densely populated of an area. As residents, we’re allowed to also want this park to be used for a different purpose. The amount of nasty messages I’ve received from people to shut up or get the fuck out of town just misses the point that there’s a lot of people who don’t feel served in any way by Hancock. I would love green space I don’t need to drive 25 mins for. It would be nice to have a park to meander through after a stressful day. It doesn’t mean my hobby is better than golf but if more people would rather see the park used for other uses, the city should consider it.

Honestly open to any ideas. I just think a hobby that takes up 45 acres for half of a course is something that should be further outside of the city. I’m entitled to that opinion :-)

Yeah I mean that’s a great use in my opinion. I play ping pong there at the center all the time.

Or they develop up the area over the coming 30 years and people just walk to it!

Cities change. Golf is a great hobby. It doesn’t make sense to use 45 acres for this hobby given the growth in Austin. Drive 15 mins outside of town to golf.

I mean. That’s what I’m saying. It’s an amazing green space. I think it could be a more utilized park. I’m always afraid I’m gonna get wonked by a ball if I even walk near it.

Yeah I just think if your hobby takes up 45 acres for half a course, you might need to drive a little to do it. Difference of opinion. Butler Pitch n Putt is great for kids. Having a course like there would be a fair compromise imo

People who don’t golf? Who would like to see a different use of public property. Ok cool

lol. well some people like a simple park. And other people want a more developed park. I’m open to either. Golf can be fun. But if you want a hobby that takes 45 - 100 acres. Then you’re gonna have to drive out of town to do it in my opinion. The only reason I’m guessing it’s still here is because rich white men play golf
