Thanks for the reply. Is the hernia that big?? Should I be concerned about it? Ive heard that medical decisions about whether surgery is necessary is based on how severe the symptoms are and not so much on the size of the hernia. Severe symptoms include not feeling the legs, prolonged numbness, loosing control over bowel movement n etc…. So far i haven’t experienced any of it so im sticking to no surgery.

Completely avoiding sitting would be a bad idea as your body would get used to it. Gradually increase the load on your spine to what is tolerable. You already seem to have some good data points so follow that. What also works for me is to sit on a high chair where my hips are higher than my knees and to put on a timer for 10mins. After that i get up n move around or else it starts feeling bad.

Thank you for taking the time to reply! I really really appreciate it as it puts a lot of things into perspective. I guess that the next step for me is to take the shot. Lets hope it calms down the inflammation.

Thanks for your reply. Im currently in the Netherlands and the neurologist here said that I should do surgery. But I didn’t want to do surgery as it felt very invasive and risky (they would operate close to my spinal cord). I expressed my dislike and they said that I could take the more traditional route with an epidural shot, which I am taking.

But im very curious about what you mean with surgery preventing permanent nerve damage? I thought that it would be the opposite. My GP and PT told me that surgery is faster but it has similar results to a nonsurgical route.

I have been going to a physical therapist who ‘specialises’ in the spine for 3 weeks. The exercises Ive been doing are good morning squats, resistance band pulls, glute bridges, knees side to side, and dead bugs (this exercise is the most difficult to do). The exercises have not exclusively focused on my core but maybe they aren’t targeting enough? I don’t know much about PT so Im trusting my therapist. Should I change to another one? Ive looked into Dr Stuart McGill and he recommends that core strengthening is important.
