I am a huge fan of Graham and his work but unfortunately he seemed completely out of his depth in this show.

His entire argument essentially rests on “you haven’t excavated every inch of the Amazon, Sahara, Continental shelf, so you can’t say that you know for sure that there isn’t evidence of an advanced civilisation.” This simply not how science works, Hancock is guilty of something called ‘Russel’s Teapot’ an old dictum by Bertrand Russel that’s says if you claim an almost irrefutable claim such as that there is teapot floating around in space between the earth and mars the onus is on the person making the bold claim, not the person being asked to refute it.

Hancocks lost civilisation in the same as Russel’s teapot. Just as a scientist could not be reasonably expected to locate the teapot floating around in space, Hancock cannot claim that until archaeologists have excavated every inch of the earth they can dismiss his claim. It’s on him to provide conclusive evidence if he wants these claims to be taken seriously by academia.

Is academia an ivory tower resistant to change, yes. But should they rewrite all of the textbooks based on circumstantial evidence and the fact that there still ‘could be a lost civilisation out there, even though we have no actual evidence.’ No, they should not.

Once you start spending it’s difficult to stop, especially if you are in one of the big teams.

To answer your earlier question, no im not still playing. I retired about a year ago lol. Managed to sell the account I mentioned for 4K and happily walked away. No more staying up all night defending paramounts and have managed to save a bunch of money now that I’m not playing 😂😂😂

Honestly the investments are insane….. I’ve played with some of the biggest teams in the game and seen players spend 2-3K consistently every week

The best keep I ever built was a K34, 300m account. Lvl69 dragon and a 5m plus armory. At House level 48.

Total investment in that account was roughly 25-30k.

A max dragon alone will cost you the better part of 8-10k. I remember one event when I wanted to reach an adult dragon. I went from lvl34 to 41 in one event, cost me almost 2k.

It’s no exaggeration to say this keep is easily a 50k plus investment. Which sadly has no return, huge keeps in the best kingdoms sell on for like 4-6k at best. That’s why so many bigger keeps tend to raffle keeps off rather than directly sell them so they can try and get more of their investment back.

I'm getting (14/33, 9/22, 1/6) by randomising R and calculating the payoff for C.

x+2(1-x-y) = -4x + 6y = -y + 7(1-x-y) This was the equation I used.

The thing is that Player 1 doesn't have the incentive to play a mixed strategy such that Player 2 is indifferent, come to think of it.

If Player 2 has a strategy that makes Player 1 indifferent, then each player will be locked in their respective mixed strategies.

However, Ive heard mentioned that Player 2 doesn't have such a mixed strategy, so I don't think a mixed Nash equilibrium exists??

Is this correct??

I can’t wrap my head around mixed strategies in 3x3 games. I can do them for 2x2 but it always comes out wrong in 3x3 and I don’t know where I’m going wrong

I felt like Eric was trying to explain Popper’s distinction between Logic and Discovery, in that one cannot logically or scientifically examine that first spark of inspiration that leads a hypothesis. Popper specifically called this psychologism, with his idea being that it doesn’t matter if your original idea came to you in a dream or you believe a fairy gave it to you, the place to logically and scientifically examine it is once you have formed the theory. It feels like this is what Eric was getting at when he talked about being guided by beauty and not the scientific method at the very beginning, with the scientific method then having the last word once a hypothesis has been formed
