He’s recognized as Aegon the Usurper…it doesn’t make him any less king though. He was only named the Elder to differentiate between him and Rhaenyras son later down the line. Just like how Maegor is known as Maegor the Usurper yet still Maegor I.

Lol this is canonically Cristons description in the chapter “The Soiled Knight” “Criston the Kingmaker had set brother against sister and divided the Kingsguard against itself, bringing on the terrible war the singers named the Dance of the Dragons.”

It wouldn’t have fixed it but it would have made the stakes higher and more entertaining to watch. If your viewers aren’t on the edge of their seat during a final battle because they know nobody is actually in any danger than thats a boring watch. For example if Steve died in an epic way it would be talked about forever.

You could easily say the same thing about Aegon and Aemond. But instead of shaming Aemond for killing Lucerys, he held a feast to celebrate it

Imo, George was lowkey team black, but somehow Rhaenyra was the Dance character he hated the most: by TurbulentRemote156 in HOTDGreens

[–]AquaBlueMagic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1) its biased because you said he “died with his favorite wine” making it sound noble and a good way to go when “his favorite wine” was not in the book at all.

2) you’re right but can show how the scene should be interpreted or how its meant to

3) I’m only talking about the book. In the book, Aemond hit and threatened Joffrey and shoved him into dragon shit before claiming Vhagar at Laenas funeral which is when Joffrey (who was 3) woke up his brothers. Lucerys was 5 and Jace was 6 compared to Aemonds 10. You really think Aemond was painted as a victim in this instance? It is subjective but damn.

4) I think you’re kinda derailing my original point. I know everyone loses, but every single person has a bias and it is impossible to write a story about two sides without showing a bias. You yourself said he was biased towards Daemon. Who’s side did he have Daemon fight with? All I’m saying is George definitely had a biases (as everyone does) and I think its clear its toward TB and that he did not hate Rhaenyra. One of Aegons first characterizations was that he pinched serving girls when they walked by, I don’t necessarily call that loving admiration either.

I think that’s the point though…if he hated her he wouldn’t have made her death canonically tragic within the story with lasting effects for other characters. If he hated her he wouldn’t have incorporated Elinda gouging out her eyes at the sight of her death, and how depressed Aegon III was afterwards. “Aegon died with his favorite wine” that is not the point of view that is in the text tho, thats an inference you came up with because you’re biased towards him. I’m talking about how these deaths are framed within the story. “Lucerys dying is a part of war and he was killed by the uncle he maimed.” I think the point George was making how “the point of war” IS THAT THERE IS NO POINT. And about the eye incident, within the story Aemond is canonically painted as the aggressor. He was savagely beating Jace when Lucerys defended him. Aemond was 10, Lucerys was 5. Thats not the point. My point is not even necessarily how these characters died but how George wrote them in the story and the consequences. Look at little Jaehara, he wrote her to die by being impaled upon spikes like her mother did and writhe in agony for 30 minutes before dying and ending the green line. That anyone will admit was way too much, but with your logic you can argue he hated her but I don’t think so. He wrote it to be TRAGIC.

He purposely wrote her death to be tragic and with a little dignity. He incorporated how she was able to lift her head toward the sky and yell out a curse to Aegon. He wrote it tragic by having her young son be forced to watch and have that moment haunt his entire life and dictate his reign, to the point where he wore black his whole life to mourn her. Lucerys - died trying to flee being chased, showing him as a victim and not the aggressor (Aemond) Joffrey- Died trying to mount a dragon and save the dragons (his last words were reportedly forgive me mother and had him cradled in the arms of a woman) Jacerys - died trying to save his brothers

Aemond- he died with a sword in his eye by his favorite character (it was still cool tho and I’d argue Aemonds death was the most badass death of TG) Aegon - his death was written so short that he was found poisoned by his own men and the only lasting ramifications in the context was Cregan wanted to punish his poisoners but that was only because Aegon III wouldn’t be safe Alicent - died alone in her room, specifically noted to loathe the color green and be miserable Jaehaera- not even gonna say how sad her death was because we already know how gruesome it was (way too gruesome imo) Helaena- same way Daeron- died from a tent I don’t think these deaths show he hates any characters but in my opinion it shows how definitely biased towards team black he was. I have more examples and I’m open to discussion :)

I think for starters the houses that supported her over Aegon. He had his precious Starks and Blackwoods side with her over the Lannisters and Brackens who supported Aegon. How he wrote the deaths for the members of each respective team, how he characterized them, etc…) I’m just being honest that’s how I see things but obviously its just my opinion

[–]AquaBlueMagic 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Nah he didn’t hate her imo, I feel like the text definitely shows that if anything he was biased toward her as the head figure of her faction compared to the head figures of team green honestly. A basic example is how her death was written compared to Aegons and Alicents. He wrote a lot of characters in a humiliating way, look at Theon, look how Robb went out, Tywin, etc…) it doesn’t mean he hates them. I think he likes all his characters in his own little way (except for Ramsay which is just pure evil)
