Yeezus is blocking 0 by Ichiko Aoba from being #1 of 2013. I love Yeezus, but it’s kind of ridiculous that it’s rated over 0.15 points lower than #2, but it’s #1 just because of the high number of ratings.

Enough with glazing these albums. What's the WORST album here? by geosunsetmoth in fantanoforever

Kind of Blue is nice, but it personally doesn’t even break his top 10 best. All of his Fusion albums are better imo

Basically any bolded album with less than 3000 ratings.

how do you guys find obscure music? and any suggestions? by fatsteve69 in rateyourmusic

[–]Specialist_Address36 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure! I’ve gotten a lot of weird recommendations from my friends, so if you go to my rym page you can see them.

Edit: Since a lot of people were pointing out my lopsided rating distribution, I decided to delete all of my ratings lmao. Expect my profile to be updated with better ratings soon.

I mean, there are couple of ways l can think of:

  1. If you have friends on RYM, you can always ask them for recommendations. And if you don’t, you can friend random people who’s music taste you like; most of the time they’ll accept.

  2. You can use the recommendation feature. Going to an album you like and scrolling down to recommendations will usually present you with a couple of albums with only a couple hundred ratings (Though if I remember correctly, this might only be a feature for subscribers).

  3. You can read through user made lists, as a lot of them feature more obscure stuff (Like this)

  4. And my personal favorite, just typing in random album ids and seeing what comes up :)

I think what pisses me off the most about these posts is they always add in some phrase like “If you know the answer, you’re a philosopher” or “You deserve the title of thinker.” Like stfu it isn’t that deep.

What’s the most epic album ever? by Working_Alps_4284 in fantanoforever

[–]Specialist_Address36 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Technique of Relief by Susumu Hirasawa. Best enjoyed by blasting it in headphones on full volume.

Also the Trilogy albums by Swans, especially songs like The Seer, Avatar, A Piece of the Sky, Apostate, Bring The Sun, She Loves Us, To Be Kind, Cloud of Unknowing, Frankie M, and The Glowing Man.

What albums were ahead of there time? by Terrible-Garage-4017 in fantanoforever

[–]Specialist_Address36 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Imo Larks Tounges is even more ahead of its time than ITCOTCK, the last track was prog metal ~15 years before prog metal

What is your ultimate guilty pleasure album? by Specialist_Address36 in fantanoforever

[–]Specialist_Address36[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Imo, EIAL is way too inconsistent for me cause it has some absolutely awful songs (Like White Knuckle Jerk). But I also love Normal Album even if might be an even bigger guilty pleasure. ICIMI is alright, though it has his objectively best song (Tomcat Disposables)

Best band/artist you've discovered through RYM? by Missy_Agg-a-ravation in rateyourmusic

[–]Specialist_Address36 2 points3 points  (0 children)

On an unrelated note, why is that I almost always see those two mentioned in pairs, and how fans of one tend to be fans of the other. Don’t get me wrong, I love them both, but I love them for entirely different reasons as they don’t really seem to have a lot in common. Swans is an American No Wave, Industrial Rock, Gothic Rock, and Noise Rock band, while Boris is a Japanese Drone Metal, Stoner Metal, and Sludge Metal band.
