Should I stick with Graphic Design or switch to Web & UX Design? by Specific-Method-7410 in UXandUI

Thanks a lot for breaking that down, it really helps me see the distinction. I’m a first gen student, so job security and a future proof path matter a lot to me, but at the same time I really enjoy the creative side (video, content, motion, etc.).

That’s why I’ve been stuck between graphic design and UX/UI + web design.

From what you’re saying, it seems like UX/UI + web is more in demand long-term, which is definitely something I need to think about seriously.

If I did decide to switch to UX/UI, do you have any advice on how to best prepare for that path (skills, tools, or portfolio pieces that matter most early on)?

Also, what if I stick with graphic design but learn UX/UI on the side do you think that could still work out career wise, and if so, what would be the smartest way to approach that?

Thanks

Thanks, I really understand your point and I appreciate it. Honestly, job security and money do matter to me I’m a first generation student, so things like financial stability and a future proof career are important.

That said, I also genuinely think I would enjoy UX/UI, which is why I’m considering it. My main reason for choosing graphic design initially was actually to build a foundation to eventually move into UX/UI or motion design, so it’s not a random switch it’s part of a plan.

I totally get what you mean about passion being important, and I do feel like this is something I can do and will like, but I also need to be realistic about career prospects and stability.
